1. Hi Matt, the clock's ticking & the excitement is building - I love going down to the facory, or Santa Green's Grotto!
2. That is the loveliest Precision I've ever seen this side of an Elite II! Congrats
3. Hey, it's the other Martin! Yes, it's the myrtle-wood 5 that's ringing my bell at the moment It's got the tone block I want & it is truly stunning. I'm using the cocobolo bo5 a lot more than I thought I would at the moment, so "Myrtle" really would be useful. I'm taking my no.1 bass with me for a sound comparison, so we'll see...
4.
Oooooooh, can't wait to find out what!
Hey Martin, it'll either be one of the basses pictured further up this page, or maybe something else will take my fancy?? Rich.
5. Yamaha BB615 should be pretty close, not as thick in the neck dept. (thumb to fingers), but excellent value for money, etc. Also excellent sound and output.
6. Hmmm... That's a tricky one. If you're doing pop/rock stuff at parties, I'd still say the cube would be struggling, but then again, you have been coping fine with the kickback amp, which I assume is lesser or similar powered? Try one... If it doesn't cut it, get one of the Ashdowns. I know for me that the output of the cube is surprising in all situations. Sounds as though you may get away with it The DI is very good on the cube as well.
7. Oh yes, been through countless 'other brand' basses & always sell them to buy another Status! Maybe a Sadowsky would cure this? I don't learn, do I???
8. Sounds bloody awful, like the strings are several years old & there's a crack in the speaker!
9. If the "trio" turning up are technically proficient and can fill all the gaps, then why not? I always go on the fact that if you're booked for a gig, you show up, you do the job, you don't complain or make excuses & you get paid. End of. If two of your members aren't showing, still make the effort. I'd consider anything less as unprofessional, like the missing two members.
10. Glad you like your new TRB-6 II! I love mine, too. It's an amazing do everything bass. I use mine for jazz jobs, shows, rock bands. It literally covers every job & the six strings make playing with wind players in awkward keys so much easier!
11. I bought a nearly new Cube 100 after borrowing a friend's cube 30 for a while. The 30 had enough volume to cope with a 10-piece show band in a large theatre, but was lacking output for my electric upright on jazz gigs. My Cube 100 is ideal for all jazz gigs. It coped the other week with a noisy big band (2 vocals, 2 keys, drums, sax, trumpet & trombone) very well with no distortion problems at all. If you're doing the noisy rock band thing, it'll struggle though. Remember that due to the frequencies, you usually need at least double the wattage of the guitarist. I use my cube for all theatre jobs, big band jobs, etc. But when things get loud, the full 500w MarkBass system has to come out to play Thinking about it, if you just want something for onstage monitoring, perhaps an Ashdown EB180 with the 15" driver would be more up to the job, or the Ashdown MAG 300 2x10? I heartily recommend the cube 100, though. It's an excellent amp!
12. I'll save the "on your knees, girl!" for later, then
13. Nice cover, Shockwave. Remember that a cover doesn't have to be exact. It's your interpretation of the music That Yamaha BB5000 sounds great, btw! And I love your left hand technique. Looks just like mine... Neat and tidy with none of that thumb over the top nonsense
14. I'll move this to pm, Martin. We're hijacking this poor guy's thread & he has an awesome bass to sell here! Rich.
15.
MB1. Why?, do i find that last statement....Totally Unsurprising!
Erm, cos after selling my KingBass I'm going... er... Christmas shopping in Colchester on Monday?? :brow:
16. Someone buy this! If you've ever played the standard Groove, you'll know that trimax pickup is astounding, especially as it's only a 9v pre as well. With the graphite neck, this is as rare as hen's teeth & needs to be played in anger! I'd buy it myself, but I'm about to drop £2k on another Status...
17. I had a feeling Sarah was going to "do it" with the Dean as soon as she mentioned it at the weekend. Enjoy your new bass, Sarah Has Wayne become the Austin Powers of BC?? I had no idea you were so secretly submissive, Sarah
18. Will there be a choice on the poll where you can say you'd like to sit down, have a cup of tea with your bass playing mates & talk like adults, as opposed to throwing your toys skyward from your pram like a petulant overgrown child?
19. The 5-string with the myrtle wood top is amazing looking, isn't it? That's one of the ones I'm going to play on Monday. I may even come home with it, unless anything else takes my fancy! A piece of advice, though. The walnut tone block in my S2-Classic gives it that extra creamy sound on top of the usual gritiness. Make sure you get one with the tone block & you'll never look back!
20. LOL, shall I put in an order for you while I'm there on Monday, flychris? You'd like an exact copy of mine? Okay, wire me the £1700 sterling & I'll make your dreams come true BassBus... Not working - Class report from hypnotism 101:- Must try harder! Rich.
21. I've got the Digitech JamMan model which is excellent. It's really easy to get a "Victa" style loop going & very controllable.
22. LOL, if I ever sell that bass I'll have to hold an auction on here, as so many people want that one! It really is unique.
23. I'm sorry flychris, but that Status S2 5-stringer is definitely not for sale My quest for a high end jazz is on hold for now, as I've just sold and shipped my KingBass so I'm off down to Status to buy something stock next week. Rich.
24. Hi Geoff, I'm only an hour away from you (just over the Humber Bridge.) If you're desperate for a bass, I can ask Mewsie to pick up my Corvette $$ for you while she's working over here. Otherwise, you're welcome to pop over and get it anytime. Rich.
