1. Excellent, Andy. Glad you like it. I've been hanging my nose over these as well. Is there as full review coming?
2. So still no pics? No camera in your phone, Trev? Fancy doing a trade for a nice Japanese TRB-6 II?
3. I have mine pretty high when on the strap, but not MK high! I like it at a point where I can slap with my right forearm parallel to the strings. Also makes me keep a good LH posture.
4. Including double basses I think we're up to about 10. Still nothing on the good Doctor_of_the_bass!!! Rich.
5. JoJoBass on this server used to be Aynsley Lister's bass player. Strangely, I used to play with Aynsley at jam sessions at the Running Horse in Nottingham when he was in his teens. His Dad used to bring him up from Leicester on a Monday evening. Rich.
6.
Has anyone else suffered this fate where one bass has made such an impression that the others seem inferior by comparison?
Oh yes! I did a gig earlier in the year with my walnut Status S2 & new KingBass. Both excellent basses, but my S2 with the walnut tone block wiped the floor with the KingBass, which incidentally is on it's way to America this week to a new owner! Glad you love your Yamaha BB1500. I love my Yamahas as well. Excellent basses
7. One of my pupils many years ago had one of the original Edge models with the active eq & it was a great sounding & playing bass for the money. I just looked up the pro 5 & it looks awesome in the black & the tiger eye colours. The monorail bridges are look very sturdy and cool as well. Did you check out everyone's suggestions from the other thread, Sarah? There are some reviews on the bass here... 8. I'm all for the clean bright and zingy sound of new strings. I had a set of DR MM Fatbeams for my MM Jazz & the difference was stunning! They were a much softer and fuller sounding string as well. I've used either Rotosounds or Elites for a long time, but am currently using Rotodsound 35-90's on my Warwick & Status Hotwires on my Status basses. I didn't like the hotwires at first, but they grow on you. I won't use anything else on my headless basses now. Especially on my walnut S2, they seem to get better with age. They don't lose a lot of the top end clarity, but do gain more "body" and thickness to the sound as you go on. So if I'm on Rotos I'll change them once a month or every 3-4 gigs, but the Hotwires are lasting a lot longer. They're very cheap as well!
9. Very nice, Paul. I played the one Mart had a while ago & that was one of the nicest sounding jazz-clones I'd ever played. Great score, mate! Rich.
10.
There's another story that Mark felt the basses were too inconsistent for swapping on stage. Mark apparently pays Rob for his instruments, if you believe the folk on Statii.com.
This is true, Steve. Mark has to buy his instruments from Status, just the same as you or I. Dawn Green told me that. I suppose if you're a small family business like SG you're not going to be able to afford to just give artists instruments.
11. It'd be an expensive excercise. A decent set of Pirastro Chromecores for my cello cost £150.
12. Actually, thinking about it, if you shop around you could snare a new Yamaha BB615. Great bass! £309 new at GAK.co.uk
13. Ibanez ATK 305 or a used Warwick Corvette/Streamer.
14. So is the new "vintage style" bridge going to be the high mass one that even the Squiers get now, or the same old cheap piece of tin? Looks like they shielded the cavities at last. No more bad earth buzz, anyway.
15. As has been already said, maple is brighter with more attack & rosewood is softer and more mellow. Great sounding basses, though. Rich.
16. Glad to hear it I love the sound of my Warwick as well. Much thuddier sound than I'm used to with my other basses, but still very clear. The sound of wood, eh?
17. That's a really nice looking bass you have there - Looks very Flea-like as well. Enjoy!
18. I've never played a 3eq Ray that I could make a sound I liked on. But I did play a 2eq model straight out of the packaging & it was lovely. Awesome sounding! Strangely enough, on my 3eq SG basses I always have the mid switch to the flat position, running them as 2eq basses. I just prefer the sound
19. Nah, I'd just kick the soundman in the 'nads. Job done
20. If you're happy with your existing bass, then carry on playing it I have found that g*****ists are noisy bastards, aren't they?? I used to have a 300w Trace rig which was ample for many years, but then my guitarist for The PHD got a couple of the Line 6 Spider II combos, pushing 150w. Completely buried my sound. Now I've got the Markbass stuff, I'm running 500w at 4ohms & life is sooo much easier. The answer? Perhaps get a cheapish 500w combo. Ashdown MAG series, perhaps? I think they do a 600 for reasonable money, don't they?
21. Congrats on the deal! Nice endorsement. Are they going to be providing you with lots of basses?
22. I wouldn't say that any of the bands I play with are politically affiliated in any way, really - Just like the capitalist scum we are, it's all for personal gain & greed!
23. Good for you! As long as you played it tastefully, I'm sure there'll be no problem, my son
