The most awful bass video I think I have ever seen
OutToPlayJazz replied to NJE's topic in General Discussion
Interesting. Obviously very Japanese harmonically so us Westerners probably won't get it, but it seemed very well controlled & well paced. Very different. As Beedster said earlier, it's nice to see rather than yet another badly played slap fest -
This bass is now withdrawn from sale. It's too nice to part with & I'm just going to have to save up for the 6-stringer So here we have a KingBass Artist in figured walnut/mahogany with 19mm string spacing, gold hardware & 32" scale with bendwell in utterly new & unused condition. Complete with hiscox lifelite case. I've been sitting on this practically since I collected it new from the factory in March & it's not getting played. Having been back down to the factory yesterday & played an incredible S2-Classic 6-string, I've decided that I'll sell this and buy something I'll actually use! £1600 - No offers & no trades (It's the KingBass, not the S2!!!)
Shouldn't this be in the "my basses are worth more than my car" thread!
Well my Octavia has done 132,000 miles!

Yes, yes... Ve shall take over ze universe as brother & brother... *Cackles!* Excellent day out, mate. Pity it took me 2.5 hours to get to bloody Milton Keynes, though! Finally got home just before 10pm.

Well, went to the factory today to pick up my '90 SII & to get my 5-stringer set up. Met Nick (the Doc) there & stayed for hours! Here's some snaps from the factory & a couple more from a carpark (post lunch) where two sad men got a load of basses out & took pictures of them! You may notice an MK-II there as well. Nick kidnapped one for a forthcoming demo show. Rich: Rob, you've designed a bass specially for fat blokes! Nick: Yes, it covers a multitude of sins! The aforementioned two sad blokes in a car park!

Nothing basic there at all! The S1 jazz is still the best jazz I've ever played! Rich.

Congrats on snagging the moo-wood KB, G-77! Lovely collection you have there. Let me know if you ever want to offload that Streamline Rich.

It seems Cimar were an offshoot brand of Ibanez in the 80's. BigRedX is the person to ask about this era of Japcrap Rich.

Okay, Rob's put up the new stock KingBass MK-II's on the website... Niiiice! The infamous "Stuttgart Bass." As used by MK on the first three concerts of the '08 UK tour... Also as used by MK on the first three concerts of the '08 UK tour... Prototype 003 with red front led's & green side led's... BGM review model, signed on rear by MK...

I'll be able to give you my verdict on Friday. I'm at the factory to pick up my old SII & try some new lovelies!!!
Was just wondering outa curiosity...what do you gain from having a fretless bass? Or a headless? (Apart from looking good) Another one....how loud can acousto-electrics go? A third random question!...How does the sounds change as the neck scale increases/decreases? This is mainly because I'm wanting to get another bass somewhen soon...when money appears....and wanted it to be 'different' Is it true that red basses make you play faster? And finaly...how are you today?
1. Fretless... A more "slidey sound". Less accuracy and a greater need for fantastic pitch and/or lh technique. 2. I have four headless basses. The idea is that you can play faster as there is no weight on the left wrist & the balance of the instrument is as good as perfect. Also as a previous contributor mentioned, you have a decreased chance of hitting your headstocks against people/walls/other stuff. 3. Electro accoustics are generally quite quiet becuase if you turn them up too high, they are prone to feedback. 4. Scale length doesn't make a huge difference to the sound, apart from longer scale lengths such as 35" for better string tension on B-strings. The main difference is the smaller gaps between the frets. Doesn't make a difference in your playing if your technique is up to scratch, though. I have 32", 34" & 35". No problem. 5. Red basses? Errr... Nope 6. I'm just peachy, thanks! Off school for half term and just teaching private pupils at my own leisure. Going down to Status in Colchester on Friday as well. I have a question for you... Why are you called the quasai-offensive name, "Pissman"? Is it because you smell like the conga line at an old folks' home? Rich. PS. This is the most amazing quote I've seen in ages, TheBeat!!!
5) Well pissed off....just got back to work after a 1 week paid suspension. hope you're good though...unless you work in the Employee Relations Dept. of my company in which case i hope you rot in hell along with your family, pets and friends.
What about that Ibanez Gary Willis signature? That's pretty reasonable. Only other one I could think of was the Sandberg Panther fretless which I think is again getting towards the grand mark. Rich.

I've always liked the sound of the piezo on my Warwick Triumph upright, but I'll be able to tell you more about the electric equivalent when I get my Status Electro in a few weeks. Rich.
-
You're quite right - The Squier VMJ is pretty hard to beat in that price range. Have a look round for a Yamaha BB614 as well. That gives you the p-style pickup & the j-style, as well as three-band active eq. Very hard to beat at the price. I'm picking this used one up from KingTut this week

Status-Graphite necks on EBMM instruments? Awesome partnership that'd be.

**SOLD** Fender Precision Deluxe 5 **SOLD**

Nick, I wouldn't have said it under my breath, but then again I don't do subtlety or PC 1. Tell them firmly that they've obviously sold too many basses this month, then! 2. Wait until another potential customer comes in and loudly tell them (in front of the staff) that they shouldn't buy from the Cellar because the staff are rude & ignorant and know nothing about basses. Rich.

Hi mate, I played a DJ5 at martthebass' house a while back. It was the passive one & sounded like the classic jazz sound you've always had in your mind. But again, it only does that one sound really. I know what you're saying about active basses. There's just so much more push & sparkle to the sound. I've sold all my passives now as well. Rich.
-
I have a pupil who has an EB0 & the build quality is lovely. The sound is pretty clear, but bear in mind that these basses only do "that 60's sound." I've played the EB3 in a couple of stores & it's a nice enough thing, but I ask the same question as I do of Hofners... Why would you limit yourself to only one sound like that? Rich.

How many violonists play bass out there?
OutToPlayJazz replied to yanto's topic in General Discussion
I'm an electric bass playing cellist & double bass player. I do teach upper strings as well (violin & viola). I don't know if playing orchestral strings makes you more melodic. Moreso in my case, I think that playing a lot of jazz as well as the rock/funk, etc., makes you think more about what else you can put into music as a bass player. Interestingly, a couple of my young ladies who I teach violin & viola respectively have recently started a bit of electric bass as well. Is there a link? Rich.
