1. You know Steve, I think you may be right... What's that jazz-alike at the front right, second row? Is it a Sadowsky?
2.
how comes your sellin the kingbass then??? marcus
It's not a firm decision yet, but it's not earning it's keep & it's sitting there pristine in it's case like my last KingBass, so perhaps it's time to accept that I'm an S2 player. Sound-wise the KB is far too boomy and sensitive for me, so as I said... First one to offer me £1600 gets an as-new bass
3. LOL - I must admit I do keep looking at the walnut Mk-II on the Status site, but I am resisting for now! As for the old S2, Rob's refitting the old 2-band pre, as I wanted the bass all original. It had a U-retro in it when I bought it and it was very flexible but somehow not quite Status. We'll see how it plays when it's restored to original specs & had a setup by the great creator!
4. There's one of the Squier Deluxe active Jazz 5's appeared on the for sale forum today... Rich.
5. They're all fine - Apart from my 1990 cocobolo S2 which has been at the factory for about three months. That's why I'm going down, to pick it up Loving the S2 5-er. It's the first 5-string I've had of any kind that's a keeper. The walnut S2-Classic 4 is my main player at the moment & the walnut KingBass doesn't really come out. I'm thinking of selling it, as it's just too boomy for me. First one to offer me £1600 gets a pristine 2008 KingBass Artist, LOL!
6. Marcus, if you look further back in the thread (may take it while as it's become a bit of a monster!) you'll find pics of Nick playing his ex-MK Empathy. I think there may be a couple more knocking around as well. Yes, I like the look of the new bass & I was chatting to Dawn about it the other week when I was rudely cut off by a flat battery on my phone! I'm going to reserve judgement on it until I've played it at the factory in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to do a review with pics if I get a chance... Nick certainly liked it when he dropped into Colchester this week I wish I had some time to go see the 'Forty-Two, but I'm working flat out at the moment. Maybe next year... Rich.
7. Yeah, looks like it's got a nice cocobolo top on it as well
8. Hi Marcus, if you mean the one directly to the left of the Alembic hanging on the wall, it looks like a headed Status S2/Empathy with graphite neck & custom P&J pickups unless my eyes are deceiving me... With that pickup set it's a very rare beast indeed! Never seen an S2 of any description with anything other than a pair of soapbars or J's in the case of the cheaper models or the John Edwards Charger model. That picture... It's on the Gallery or Bass Cellar site, isn't it? Rich.
9. LOL Nick! :brow: It just caught my eye (fired up some old neurons somewhere!) and also my guilt, as here was I telling everyone how great the Am Std Precisions were (including mine) then I traded mine for my 5-string Status S2. Ah well!
10. Now I'm really confused! I could have sworn Nick was selling a black 08 Am Std a couple of months ago... Where'd this one come from? Rich.
11.
Er! Did I say that??!!
Well, you did mention they had trussrods, mate. The dating error was all mine, though! Rich.
12. Glad to hear you're okay after that brush with death. And that lovely Status survived, too. A happy ending? On a practical note, I always make sure all my gear is PAT tested. Not only for a safety point of view, but also because many venues are asking for evidence (as well as MU public liability insurance) before gigs these days. Rich.
13. Hey Andy, my mistake - It's from the late 90's, not the 80's! Here's an excerpt from the Status FAQ page... Do all Status basses have truss-rods ? : No. Early graphite neck models, until about 1998, did not have truss-rods. These necks were moulded to be extremely ridged and had the fingerboard shaped accordingly. All maple neck basses had a dual action truss-rod which was accessed from just behind the top-nut. From around 1998 onward graphite necks had a dual action truss-rod which was accessed from the body end of the fingerboard.
14. As both a classical db player & an EUB player I always use a tall stool with a "foot rest ring" when playing. I don't really like playing standing up as a lot of your left hand agility is lost holding the damned thing up! Rich.
15. If I had a StingRay I'd have it off you in an instant. But as I don't have a ray... Unfortunately signed, Lord Letdown.
16. I never chop single ball strings down, either. I just make sure they're wound from the top of the peg downwards & make sure by holding the string down with a finger near the peg during final winding. Easy. Even easier still, my headless basses take no chopping at all. Just fit the double ball ends and the amazingly designed bridge units do the rest for me Rich.
17. That looks like a real steal for the price! Congrats
18. As the good Doctor says, all the Status graphite necks have had a dual-way truss rod since the late 80's. Rich.
19. Ashdown do one the same. They have a couple in the bass department at Electro.
20. #5169, the P/J one in the vintage tint is the one for me!
21. Chris 2112 bought one recently. Drop him a pm.
22. Kev, remember that the outboard preamps are only for passive basses or instruments you can run passive. Can you bypass the preamp on your Ray? They don't do anything for an active bass, just overboost it. Rich.
23. I've just adjusted mine on a newly traded Corvette $$. I did the neck first, then dropped the action for the lower strings. Then had a play with the nut adjustment to see what it did, as my old $$ was always too proud on the 1st fret gap. Adjusted it so it's just above grounding point. Easy to tell when it's in the right place. Pluck the string before you turn the allen key. I don't have one on any other basses, but I can see the point of it. A great idea, but as others on here have said, get the fundamentals like the neck & the action right first. Rich.
24. I'm not a Rick lover either, but as the Burpster said, s*** that's nice! I've also never seen one with a black scratch plate before. Best of luck with the sale. Rich.
