Without over complicating things with the fact that the bass is a transposing instrument, your open G is the top space of the bass clef, your open D is the middle line, your open A is the bottom space & your open E is below the stave with a line through the note. Try a double bass method like Double Bass Solo 1 (Oxford) or Yorke Studies Volume One for Double Bass. Rich.

I'd put it up on the basses for sale forum to be honest... You won't get any interest over here Like this one...?
-
I've got the same one (bolt on neck with two truss rods & ash body?) Awesome bass. Want me to make you an offer? I'd love another one! As a guide, I paid £450 for mine in mint condition Rich.

Welcome back, Chris How was it in the barren desert of non-basschat life, then? Rich.

I've had two Warwicks. A green Fortress in the 90's which I didn't really get along with & a black Corvette $$ which I had a couple of years ago. I still say to this day that the $$ is one of the best all round basses I've ever played - Amazingly fast neck, biblical output & a really adaptable sound all make for one hell of a bass. I'm currently thinking of getting another one as I only sold mine to help fund my 1990 Status SII. Rich.
Yes, the Classic 70s model. I must say this range of Fender MIMs are much better than the standards. Nicely finished bass. Blocked and bound neck. Very funky. I tried a Geddy Lee in the shop.......... what a neck!!!!! Possible too thin for me even. Lovely bass though. You got rid of yours I recall, OTPJ?
Yes, I traded my Geddy for an American S1 Jazz which was far superior. The Geddy was a lovely bass apart from the pathetically weak output & the fact that the neck would change shape with the slightest weather change. I did have 35-90 strings on it, though! I didn't get chance to say that your bass looks really nice, especially with the block binding & the bullet trussrod. Looking forward to trying one of those, but I'm thinking along the lines of an American Standard jazz for myself, or maybe another S1 jazz. Rich.

"Fastest" bass guitarist in the world
That is without a doubt the single most even-handed and equanimical post I have ever read. I feel all calm and charitably disposed to other people's points of view. You aren't a diplomat are you?
Nope, he's just a bloody good bass player -

I found it very interesting, actually. He seems to be using the same rh technique as the excellent Indian hand drummers. Lots of the very good djembe players do something very similar. It's a very good idea. Anyone on here tried it? -
Is this the new Mexican one?

I suppose it's because the graphite necks have that certain extra growl to them, but the wooden ones have very sturdy graphite rods in them, either side of the truss rod. You still get the genuine Status sound either way. Still a steal. I paid more for my passive Shark! jaymanfunk, I think you'll find that if you drop your Energy's price by £100 it'll fly out the door

Lovely looking bass & a very similar finish to my TRB-6 The G&L's really are great instruments - Played a couple in the last few months. Like a Ray with more bite & attitude!

Kev is a really nice guy and deserves none of this. Rich.

There's a video review on bassplayer.tv Also some sound samples on the Lightwave site. Don't know if others will agree, but the Sabre basses sound very artificial, almost synth-bass like.

Now that looks like a million dollars (and would probably cost a similar amount, being a PRS!!)

Who actually feels 100% happy with what they've got?...
OutToPlayJazz replied to Josh's topic in General Discussion
I'm very happy with all my basses now. They all sound exactly as I'd expect & I never change settings on the basses or the MarkBass. All the Status/Yamaha basses have specific jobs & they all sound fantastic. What's more, they all earn their keep! There's always something around the corner that may take my eye, but I'm resisting at the moment for if I see anything I really want to bring home when I'm in Florida at Xmas. You never know, a cheap Ray or something may arrive on these shores just before New Year. No more custom orders for me at the moment, either. I may go for something very special (JayDee/Alembic/GB, etc.) for my 40th next year, but 100% satisfied for the time being. Bet you thought you'd never hear that! Rich. -
Yes, the wooden necked models are never worth as much as the grahite ones, but £200 is still a great price for an active Status! There's one on the for sale listings on bc ufp at over £400!

Lovely collection, bassfan! Three very different instruments & of course, three very different sounds. Is the Warwick the one that MB1 used to own? Rich.

+1 to WaterOfTyne's earlier comment on the original Fender bridge. If you have an American made Fender there's really no need for it, as the through-body stringing reduces the string/bridge contact area & creates more sustain than a badass ever could. I've had two Fenders with Badass IIs & they were both inferior to the basses with the through body stringing & original bridges. I am, however thinking about getting one for my MIM Precision at the same time as I change the scratchplate & swap out the pickup for a Wizard Thumper.

You get a much more balanced output with 18v preamps (according to the luthier of my basses, anyway!) Rich.
D'oh What I REALLY want to do a temporary swap on is my Retroactive for someone else's 5 string S2 bolt on....
Hmmm... I wonder which 5-string that is, then?? This one, perhaps........?

I've never played one of these but always thought the putrid green looks really cool (for a putrid green!) They sound awesome, though - Especially while being beaten mercilessly by the hands of one Mr.Sheehan!

Have you tried the bass yet? Does it feel immediately right for you? These are the questions I'd be asking, because it's not worth getting into debt if it's just something you fancy at the time. Obviously I'm in a different position now (almost 40) but I always make sure I have saved the money to buy things and never borrow or use credit cards. I was in a similar situation to you when I was 20. That's when I bought my first really good bass. I also took out finance to buy it over three years, but if you're a student, make sure you can really afford to make the repayments. I was able to afford it at the time, as I was working at the same time as studying. That's all I'd say. Perhaps sell one of your others to help fund it as well? Rich.

Nice looker! I can see why people lust after them! A friend was telling me in a pm earlier that they were seriously aching for one!

Sunbeams .v. Fatbeams - What differences have you found?
OutToPlayJazz replied to Hamster's topic in Accessories and Misc
I know a lot of people on here swear by the high beams, but I prefered the Marcus Miller fat beams. I ordered them especially for my Marcus Miller Jazz & they felt just right - Softer feeling than the usual bright sounding strings & with a really full bodied, bright sound. Try some. I really liked them.
