1. Yes, the CT's are much cheaper. More modern sounding with the sustain block inside & reasonably priced at £425.
2. Nice, Josh! After the quantity you absolutely raved about the 5-stringer I knew you'd be hooked and getting another one! Is this your first sixer? I love my Yamaha TRB-6 & wouldn't be without it for certain jobs
3. Was in a local music store today & they had one of the new Contemporary Club basses in. What a difference to the violin bass I had up until this summer. The club sits well on the knee & has a lovely thick sound, much less reedy than the vb! Try one!
4. Did anyone spot the single cut on their website? If that's about £500 it's a stunner! http://willowsguitar.com/bemarket/shop/ind...il&uid=2147
5. A very busy but civilized weekend... Friday was a diamond wedding party in Grimsby, so just gentle jazz trios while they scoffed and chatted... Saturday's event was a 70th birthday party in Coalville, Leicestershire with a 4-piece jazz outfit with male vocals. Lovely party and the hostess did a lot of singing herself (v.good!) with backing track cd's! So another nice'n'easy job there! Sunday was a bit of a chore after only 4 hours' sleep, but went to Sheffield for 9am for a big band recording. Nice couple of pints of quality real ale in the sun afterwards, though. I haven't had any beer in ages! Rich.
6. Nice to see so many people here using Bach pieces! I was half way through putting the C Major Prelude from the Well Tempered Clavier together for two handed tapping during the summer. I'll finish the arrangement one of these days! One of the others I do a lot is "Jesu joy of man's desiring" very quickly from the "Double Bass Solo One."
7. That's really sad to hear. I've had some excellent chats with Nick (NAS) in the past & he's quite the bass enthusiast, like many of us here. I'm sure many will join us in sorrow for his deep personal loss & hope to see him back on here among friends as soon as he's able. Rich.
8. "Sinister Minister" by Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. Well, the first three pages, at any rate!
9. We're going to have to sort a Status meeting for a few of us. How's about us all meeting at Moo's house for the biggest collection of Status basses in one place ever (apart from the stock rack at the factory, of course!) I'm sure Moo wouldn't mind
10. Probably the best jazz of any kind I've heard. Good thing I don't have £950 burning a hole in my pockets! Best of luck with the sale
11. Welcome & hello from 20 miles due north (on the South bank of the Humber.)
12. On a more serious note, my offering is my 2006 MIM Precision. A nice bass, nothing flashy, but seriously better to play than the 2008 American Standard I had recently. Go figure.
13. Look up Paul Holt violins in Derbyshire. He's been making guitars recently & I'm sure he'd do a very good bass. His cellos are excellent & his other trade is as an electrician!
14. Great idea. You'll have to be quick, as Rob is discontinuing the SmartBass range. It's down to whatever parts they've got left made up now I played one with just a precision style pickup & it was quite nice. Your suggested pickup configuration sounds really nice. Would like to see that one. Rich.
15. Hey Jim, it was you that bought Mike's Empathy, then? Nice score! I hear it's had a full factory refinish, too. Lucky man!
16. Five of mine came off the basschat for sale forum... My Yamaha TRB-6 II was from Beneath_it_all, the Cocobolo/Cherry Status SII was from TerryK (who had it from new since 1990), my new 2008 Status S2-Classic 5-er was from GreyParrot, the pristine 2006 MIM Precision was from FoxTheBiker & my recently refinished in diamond black Status Shark was from Stan_da_man. Yes, you really can trrace where the instrument has come from and it's a lot better than buying something used from a dealer/shop. Rich.
17. As Dr.Dave said, they were considered as a "poor man's Status", but don't let that put you off. I have a passive Shark knocking around that we've been refinishing & that was at the very bottom of the range, but that doesn't stop it being an excellent bass. I'll make an offer of £250 if you still want to sell the 3000, any day of the week!
18. Bacchus P & Sadowsky jazz? Here's a man who knows quality! Awesome looking collection!
19. I've always quite liked the Bongo. Never actually had the chance to play one, though. Maybe one day HH sounds like the mightiest and most adaptable package, though.
20. Excellent collection, Lee & best of luck to you and Mrs.Lee with the birth of your baby
21.
But I would never buy a Fender without trying it first
A huge +1 to that! Fender quality is just so variable across the ranges!
22. I'd have to go for either the aforementioned Ibanez Gary Willis, or the excellent Yamaha TRB 1005F. The other one I played in recent times was a Warwick Corvette fretless. It was lovely to play & was the passive one at that! Somewhere around £5-600 I seem to remember.
23. For any of you thinking this bass is a little pricey, have a think on this... The new Status T-Bass is £1700 new, making Tony's bass a bit of a bargain!
24. The Yamaha TRB II series really doesn't need the piezo system. There's already a huge array of sounds on offer. I use my TRB-6 II for a lot of jazz gigs when I don't want to carry a double bass or my Triumph upright. Excellent basses! Best of luck with the sale of this beauty Rich.
