1.
What am I doing wrong... the more I play... the more I drink and smoke (Jazz Fags)....
Hey Jay, I think a lot of it is down to the fact that I'm always driving. The most I can ever have is one drink (if I have any) so you gradually get out of the habit anyway. The other thing is that after a long hard day teaching at school, followed by a long hard evening teaching private pupils or playing professionally, the last thing I have the energy for is going to the bloody pub!
2. I find the best solution is not to drink. I barely ever touch the stuff these days as I work day & night (including weekends most of the time!) I've found I don't really miss it & I can afford much better basses
3. Active treble & bass full on at all times. Much like the old "rock" setting on graphic equalizers (the smile!) If I turn tone/treble down or off, it makes me feel as if my ears have suddenly filled with wax!
4. Lovely looking bass, Ady! Back in the mid 90's I had a Nathan East TRB-5 (wish I'd never sold it!) & now have a non-piezo TRB-6 II which I wouldn't change for anything! Excellent score, mate.
5. Ooh, one of the Moo-wood basses. Someone better snap this up as there aren't many of these around! And no matter what it's made of, the KingBass Artist is a serious piece of kit. Biblical sound!
6. *Looks up...* That's that there bloke who makes my basses!
7. *BUMP!* for a great bass - You can't go wrong with a TRB! Best of luck with the sale
8. Hey, if Nick, Matt & I shared a house, we'd have the biggest collection of Status basses on the planet! Edit: Then again, there is that huge rack of the things in Rob Green's workshop - Now, if I had a crane........
9. Hey Marcus, that's nice One of my pupils has one & it plays every bit as well as the Hofner I had!
10. Not me Martin, but I think I know who did! It's a lovely one as well
11. I was thinking the same about "Retroglide" right from the first day I put it in my car's autochanger... The first track in particular is mixed terribly. The instrumentation totally drowns out the vocals!
12. Seems a few on here have settled finally with one specific type of bass. I started off my bass nirvana days with a 1988 Status SII & played it pretty much exclusively for 16 years. Yes, others came & went, but it was always around & played above everything else. I sold it after getting my KingBass 5 in 2006 & regretted it. Many of you will have noticed me buying & selling basses like there's no tomorrow for the last couple of years. Now, my main players are... Yep, Status SII's. My lovely KingBass sits pristine in it's case once again & the only other electric I use on a regular basis is my Yamaha TRB-6 for jazz jobs & shows, particularly because it's so versatile. So if I happen to mention I'm wanting another Warwick or a Fender, etc., just point me in the direction of Colchester. It's easier that way!
13. The ones I've played have been pretty nice. In particular, martthebass's black DJ5. That was the nicest quality one I've tried. It also did the old school jazz sound very well. I really wanted to like the Duck Dunn I tried & a couple of the 45-01/02's but they just felt cheap to me. Seems like you have to try before you buy in order to get a really nice one, much like Fenders. The other interesting option is to have a look on Jon Shuker's site. He'll make you an active P or J starting at around Lakland money. Look at what Nick (NiceGuyHomer) has said about his!
14. I haven't encountered the brand before, Charic - But that's really nice
15. Best of luck, Sarah! I'm sure you'll play like a trooper
16. LOL! Martin is quite correct - I paid £1000 for an 18 year old one earlier in the year! At least the SII models are pretty well depreciation proof. I think the KingBass will be the same for years to come, too.
17. Hey Ben, Rich is often out shooting. Drop him a text on his mobile. He always answers
18. Then maybe, today is a good day to die!
19. LOL! Perhaps the ad would read something like, "slightly thumbed..." ?
20.
I so want that Prototype no. 4..... but it would just sit in it's case like my Black Beauty does now..... why couldn't King have been a 5 stringer....
Hey Jay, I think it was no.4 which Rob wanted either £4k or £4.5k for. Can't remember which! It's the only one of the four that's been out on tour with Mark.
21. Anyone seen the Retroglide prototypes for sale on the Status website yet? Here they are - No's 1-4...
22. Teen T-shirt, that's a seriously cool pic with the two babes Which one's yours?
23. The photo of the black pearl does it for me - Ultra cool!
24. That is one stunning S2! Pity I just bought an S2 5-er Best of luck with the sale!
