Picked up this beauty today at the same time as dropping my old S2 into the factory to get the preamp rewired. Thanks again Rich (greyparrot)! It's a 2008 S2-Classic 5-er in satin cocobolo with spalted maple board (you can't see the join between the maple & graphite - Truly stunning!)

Did my trade today, giving Rich (greyparrott) my two Fenders in exchange for a 2008 Status SII 5er in rather fetching satin cocobolo/spalted maple board. Rich is an excellent guy (read 'Diamond Geezer'!) & not only made me very welcome, but also made me lunch at the same time. Many thanks Rich for an excellent bass & I hope you get on well with the two lovely & pristine Fenders Rich (The other one!)
Allo! Just to add to whats already been said - check my equipment page! http://www.freewebs.com/doctor_bass Out of all my gear, the 2 x 10" combo gets used most of all, normally on its own but having the two other cabs means that I can mix and match depending on the gig. I've had the 2 x 10" combo since 2005 and its performed admirably (it was one of the very first batch in the `wasp' livery) - first ever gig with it was with a very loud blues band with two guitar players. A guy comes up to me at half time - `....bass is a bit loud mate!'. Normally I would have asked him to check the weather outside but I thought `YES!!!!!' Rich - I'm back!
Blimey mate, I was starting to get seperation anxiety there for a minute! -
Excellent practical review, btw I've played a Streamline at the factory & I was very impressed by it. I felt it had a huge range of tones on offer and the smaller body size seemed to make no difference to the tone - It really does sound much mightier than it looks! As for production, I know that the 'streamlining' (no pun intended!) of the operation in recent years has helped the company keep ahead of the competition and has also done no harm to the image and perceived value of the brand. I know Rob wouldn't outsource any production as he's kept a tight grip on the quality control for a very long time. You know you're going to get a first class instrument & that there will be no quality issues at all. I've only heard of one bass being returned in the last few years & that had a fault in the neck weave. Rob was so mortified that he made the client a complete new bass! Now that's what I call customer service

I liked a couple of the ideas in the article, especially the comment from Aguilar's owner and how they're interested in 'completing the tonal relationship between the bass and the amplification. I was also taken by the idea of a player shaping their eq according to the sound of the bass drum. Not sure how it'd work in practice as I'd always want my own individual sound and not to 'blend in' with the drums so much, but it was a very interesting point.
I really really really have to get to OuttoplayJazz's house before the summer hols end!
Yes, I could have sworn you were coming over - I wasn't going to charge you, either! Also, I still charge £20 per hour. I think it's a reasonable rate and £20 per hour in any profession is not to be sniffed at. I like to charge what people can afford and I seem to have a waiting list for my private lessons as well!

I've mainly traded and p-ex'd to get where I am now (apart from having saved for custom orders!), but there are two... My original Status SII I do miss because it was with me for 16 years, but I did recently get a chance to buy it back and missed out due to financial reasons. Strangely I don't feel guilty or sad about that as I know my current new S2-Classic is a far superior bass. The other one surprises me... I've sold every jazz I've owned (including a beautiful Marcus Miller this week), but I had to sell this one to help finance my beautiful Cocobolo/Cherry 1990 Status. The Candy Cola S1 was the only jazz I've ever liked & had it not been for the S2, I'd still have it now.

Thought I'd add a premature pic of the one I'm picking up on Thursday while I'm down in the South East... Lovely!

Played the Navigation at Newark. Had the whole place dancing, but it was soooo loud! Now, I know I'm getting old here, but I much prefer my jazz band to The PHD - So much quieter and expressive. Still have ringy ears this morning!

Hey Zach, I was just looking at the picture & then your moniker... 5StringDeath? Are you planning to vapourise a large proportion of the audience with that monster rig? Rich

Cheers Jamie! See you there another time

Ste_m3, was I seeing things, or were you playing with a black bag on your head, mate? If you were, a good looking young guy like you should give the bag to an old guy like me, LOL! -
