1. +1 for the Squier VMF jazz. You could even get a Sadowsky outboard preamp pedal to save all that mucking around with wiring Other option is to watch the for sale board on here. Excellent fretless basses do pop up quite often on here, as many people try fretless and some don't take to it so re sell almost unused instruments.
2. Someone on this server has one of the last Groove bodies & that one actually came out of the factory with a graphite neck. Sounds like quite a special instrument!
3. Did a wedding in Leicestershire last night. It was a strange pairing between my jazz band & my rock band. Paul managed to become 'King of the Swingers' and combine it with some 50's rock'n'roll. Quite successful if not as slick as I'd like, but interesting. Funny how when you add a guitarist to the usual trio, everything suddenly gets a lot louder!
4. Wow! Another Eclipse Ltd 5er. I really like the look of these - That's two on this thread so far! Watch this thread for something special & Status-shaped towards the end of next week. I've just closed the deal on a trade...
5. Hmmm, formative stuff? What about Alberto Frog & his Animal Band? "...And what kind of milkshake will Alberto have today?"
6. I do accuracy & I do move around the stage, but I don't dance. Btw, by accuracy, are you thinking of technique or just mainly playing all the right notes, hopefully in the right order and in the right place?
7. Sounds like you had an excellent trip! Did you get up and have a jam yourself? And did you bring yourself back any new gear?
8.
You bloody live there, would you also ask if there are any plans to build the Streamliner in left hand, or if they will build the replacement necks in lefty, please? Thanks Steve.
I ought to have shares in the company, the amount of money I spend there, Steve! Yes, I'll ask about a lefty Streamliner & plans for lefty replacement necks for you. Rich.
9. Excellent mate! Look forward to seeing them - Your Retroactive is stunning!
10. Damn! It's a pity this is a fiver - I'd have traded you my two Fenders straight off!
11.
Good good. Ask about the 5 string Streamline again for me would you? Cheers!
Will do, mate. Where's the pics of your Retroactive & Groove?
12. I think the 6-string Streamline is going to be a guitar as opposed to a bass. I'm down at the factory again next Thursday so I'll bring back all the rumours and goss then! Hopefully will get to see the mk2 KingBass as well.
13.
Thanks, that's what I really wanted to know - Would you go with the 2x10 rather than 1x12 every time? I guess money wise 12" plus extra cab would be the same as the 2X10
Yes, the 2x10 is going to be stronger (mainly because you're putting the load through two speakers rather than one) and the 2x10 cabinet is physically larger and deeper. But the things you really need to consider are, how much signal are you putting through your rig? If you're playing a passive jazz or precision then you're not really going to overload anything. If you're playing a really powerful active bass with an 18v preamp then a 15" speaker at the bottom of the rig is going to be the one for you. You also need to consider the type of music you play and the sort of volumes you're likely to be producing/competing with. I guess with mine I have two rigs in one. I can use my 15" combo for gentler jazz jobs & blues/60's jobs, but I like the extra headroom I get with the extra cab. Especially with The PHD where I'm competing with a very loud drummer and a guitarist with an elevated Line6 twin. The good news is that in these situations I often don't bother going through the PA with the drummer. I have plenty of power on my own
14. Hi Frank, I remember looking at this one when it was on the For Sale forum. Lovely looking 6-stringer I still quite fancy a graphite necked 6 but I love playing my Yamaha TRB-6 at the moment so no reason to change, really.
15. Saw my new pupil again tonight... He brought his Epi EB0 but not the Vox. Turns out it's a 1961 Vox Clubman. Will post pics as soon as I've seen it.
16. That's a nice one! What happened to the screws out of the control plate on the back?
17. Hmmmm... Good idea! You can start that one as you'll have loads of Vigier pics
18. I'll change the subtitle to something like, "All graphite basses welcome!" That'll invite Vigier & Modulus, etc!
19.
G77's. I played it at the last bash, just a cool little bass. Not quite as good as French graphite but not bad ;0) ped
Would you like us to expand this into a graphite thread, Ped?
20.
Any of you Status owners got a Streamline to show?
There's one on the earlier pages of this thread. I think it's either G77's or OBBM's. Edit:- Yes, it's G-77's. Beautiful green tint to it. Bottom of page 1
21. I had a quick hunt on google images & came up with the same Victor pic but found this one... Whatever they're playing, this guy is having a great time! Is Suzi Quatro scratching her bottom here??
22. I mentioned Victor Wooten earlier in this thread for his effortless coolness, but I don't quite know how to classify Bootsy Collins. Cool or utterly insane?? You decide!
23. You can usually tell quite easily if you've got the trussrod right. The action will feel about right, but if it's been slackened too much you'll have a massive clearance gap between the fingerboard and the E string at the 12th fret.
24. Mr.Shockwave, that looks great! Loads of very expensive hardware has gone into that bass. I certainly hope it sounds great! You'd pay about £1500+ if a luthier was making a bass of that quality for you!
25. Just listened to the sound clip, Kev. Nice little varied concert you gave there! Excellent sounding, isn't it? Very unique bite to it as well. I might do one of those myself at some point. I can see why you like it, anyway!
