1. Hi Karl, Are Americans welcome? Sure, as long as you don't start any wars! No, seriously welcome to the forum! Great to see another luthier on board.
2. Input gain 9 o'clock Bass 2 0'clock Mids (all) 12 o'clock Treble full on max vle 7-8 o'clock vpf off Output vol 12 o'clock Mega hifi sound - Bass & treble eq up full on the bass with the mids flat. OutToPlayJazz <--- Eq hooligan!
3. i have the mini 15 combo & the 2x10 traveller combo. The thing to remember is that the combos running at 8ohms on their own are producing about 400watts rms. Pretty much all you'll need for most playing situations, but if you want loads of easy headroom, adding a second cab converts you to 4ohms and gives you the full 500watts. Now I play with a stupendously loud drummer & even he winces when I go for it with the MarkBass. I'm usually running the combo at 1/4 on the input gain & 1/2 on the output for sheer biblical punch. (This is with a very powerful Status preamp, though!) There's a girl I share playing work with & she has the 12" combo. That is ample for most jobs as well. You just can't go wrong with this MarkBass stuff!
4. From what I've been reading, possibly a Fender Jazz 24 5-string. Other option is to bag a used headed Status. BigBeatNut is entertaining offers on his Status Eclipse Ltd 5 at the moment. That's a stunning bass. Have a look on the 'Get your Status Graphite basses out' thread on 'GearPorn'.
5. Thinking about it, NAS (user on this server) was thinking of letting his SmartBass go. It's a passive twin soapbar one. Give him a shout.
6. Wow. That is a surprise. Looks like the cheapest model in the range is now an S2-Classic bolt-on or a basic Streamliner at around £1300.
7. Sausages sizzling, ready to become a sausage & egg sandwich with brown sauce! You did ask!
8. Nice looking rig! I often think about going back to Trace, but my back doesn't like the idea at all!
9. You wouldn't happen to have a looper in that pedal collection, would you?
10. Yes, I thought he was, Steve! I had some sort of vague recollection of him posting on here in the past
11. As for the email, you're better off calling. I know Rob's had problems getting emails out to people in recent months. They're back at the factory now, anyway. Dawn is usually in for about 10-11am. As for the growliest wood, that's a hard one! The guide on the SmartBass pages is a good one. My newer basses are in mahogany/walnut and they are very glassy sounding. I'd go for the ash if you want growly, personally. Here's what the site says... What is the difference between the various timbers? ASH Ash bodies are medium density and weight. The timber produces a clear tone with plenty of definition. When combined with the graphite neck this bass is great for percussive playing. The wood has an open grain and a light colour with darker features. WALNUT Walnut is a medium / dense timber which has a rich brown colour. The grain is quite close and produces a tone which is clear and articulate. The satin lacquer produces a smooth finish. ALDER A light / medium weight timber which is slightly softer than the other options. Alder has a smooth grain and warmer tone with an even frequency response. Ideal for fingerstyle playing. MAHOGANY Mahogany is a classic timber for instrument making. It is a medium weight with a red/brown colour. It has a fairly open grain and produces a broad frequency response with plenty of character. The satin lacquer produces a fairly smooth finish with a slight grain visible.
12. The Modulus UK distributor is a member on here, so I'm sure he'll be along soon to put the story right
13. The old active Jack custom is a nice bass. I had one before my first Status. The EMGs are very powerful & even & the preamp is pretty strong. Great bass for the money. Is this a used one? (I think they only make the cricket-bat Steinberger style ones now.)
14. Yes, his speed & dexterity looks second to none to me!
15. Yes, the StarChild is a lovely looking bass. Matt (TheMoo) from Statii.com has one being built at the moment. I'll ask him to send over some pics when he gets it. Looks stunning in his build diary.
16. If I didn't already have an '08 American Standard in 3TS I'd be ripping Nick's arm off here!
17. What issue number /100 is it? (Should say on the back of the headstock.)
18. JPJ, I've looked at the jazz in the same 3TS as yours on the Overwater website many, many times. Stunning looking basses. Glad you're happy with it
19. Welcome to the forum, Jimmy
20. Nice to meet another pro player! Welcome to the forum
21. Welcome to the forum, Graham! Not sure on your enquiry, but I'm sure someone will come along soon with an idea
22. Welcome to the forum, Mark!
23. If you can, go for the Conservatoire model. I've got one of the Stentor Conservatoire violins & one of my pupils has a Conservatoire 4/4 cello. They really are better than the cheaper models. If you're after something a bit more played in, try Tony Morgan at BassBags on 07976 758727. He'll have plenty of stock in & is usually a lot cheaper than the dealers.
