1. Markers on the board (like those little sticky dots) are fine for starting off, just make sure the thumb is kept behind the middle finger & that when you change position you move the whole hand as a unit.
2. Basically, a full size double bass will go in almost any car. I used to get my Ronald Prentice bass (with C-extension) into an old mk2 VW Jetta saloon many years ago. In fact, one of my double basses was almost stolen out of that car! It'd been passed in through the front passenger door (done via reclining the passenger seat & passing the head over the driver's headrest) & someone broke into the car while it was in a public carpark. Only thing was they gave in and left the bass in a wierd position, as they were to stupid to figure out how to get the bass out of the car!!!
3. That Eclipse Ltd is/was gorgeous! Is this one you've sold on?
4. I liked what he was playing in general, but he was using a pick!!!
5. Funnily enough I was watching Hardien Feraud on youtube the other day. Seems like a highly musical player. Very fast jazz improv, too. He's being touted as one of the 'next generation', isn't he?
6. Jazzes seem to work best with just a touch of a curve at the nut end of the neck. Between an 8th & a quarter of a turn anticlockwise, I do believe Also, check that the saddles on the bridge aren't bottoming out on the base of the bridge!
7. That white one is very Larry Graham! Cool
8. I'd go for one of the new Fender/Squier high mass bridges. The one on my 08 Precision seems very sturdy and sounds great.
9. Where are you going to walk 'wit fingers if you have two pickup covers, mate?
10. What fabulous looking pieces of workmanship! Lovely
11. Natural, as God intended Niiiice!
12. That's really nice! I think that's two of the new classic vibes we have here on BassChat now. Just waiting for someone to buy the lovely 50's Precision in Lake Placid Blue.
13.
MB1 NO!.....Not me!....Are you having that J.D Rich???
No! Erm... Yes... Erm... Maybe
14. Are you buying it, Martin? Are you? Are you?
15. I'm also a great fan of Thomann.de. I've always been impressed by their speediness & attention to detail is excellent as well.
16. Yes, it is a heavy beast, but I really like how you can ease off with your playing and it moves 'dynamically' with you. Really is quite sensitive for a powerful active bass. Mine is still several mega-tonnes lighter than my Marcus Miller jazz, though!
17. The Tort guard is all I'd do to it. If you love the sound, there's not much point in changing the bridge. Are you going to use the thumb rest or is it going to just get in the way, Marcus? Rich.
18. That is the coolest bass I've seen in ages. Congrats on a real find! Dare we ask what you paid if it's not too rude
19. Hey Jon, I remember your collection from the old site, especially for the beautiful Pangborn & also of course because you're the bloke with the TRB-6 II identical to mine. Fantastic collection you have there My TRB has found itself a definitive role, with jazz bands, shows & for other extended range tasks. Excellent bass. Rich.
20.
Also have a stage piano and a ton of amps/effects some of which i'm trying to get rid of.
Hey Oscar, you wouldn't have a 'looper' you're planning on parting with, would you? Rich.
21. David, your one-off stealth-shaped Empathy is a real looker with quite the family history as well! The 15mm spacing sounds rather like the OLP Tony Levin bass where they crammed the 5 string into the 4 string width bridge. I suppose it's just something you get used to. The later Status 5-ers with individual bridge units are all 18mm as opposed to the standard 19mm on the 4-stringers. An excellent story, anyway. Thanks for sharing it with us
22. Hey BigBeatNut, good to see you! That S1 has a lovely flamed top Are you going to show us the others, then?
23. I played a couple of these a while ago at Electro. Lovely sounding bass. Great to play as well!
24. Looks as though this bass is destined to be with you, John! Wouldn't be a bad thing though, would it? I think it compliments your headless 6er
25. Yes, the price tag is pretty ludicrous. Good job I don't really like them! Liked the sound with everything full on, though. I was a little mystified as to how the other channel on the Genz Benz was "warmer." Sounded like he was playing in a goldfish bowl
