1.
thanks outtoplayjazz stilll looking at the pics of your old series 2 status love it(shiny)! , what do you think to mark kings new bass???
Hey Marcus, thanks! I don't think I'll be ordering a KingBass Mark II. The only new Status I'll be ordering is a Streamliner if I decide to go on one of Victor Wooten's camps in trhe USA. (Better for travelling with!)
2. As Steve says, I'd leave the logo as it is. If it plays great, I'd leave well alone Looks like a really well played working bass - Excellent!
3. Thomann will probably have one in stock. You'll be searching for a while for any Gibson/Epiphone products in the UK as Gibson have cut out all the smaller dealers, so only a select few are allowed to sell the things these days. Personally, I think they've cut their own throats, business-wise.
4. Aww, stop it Chris! I've had Sadowsky GAS for ages & it's really starting to hurt!
5. Anyway, whatever the spec they come with, it looks like a really nice bass - Congrats!
6. That 2eq Ray looks great with the Status neck, Steve!
7. Nope, just checked on the Squier site. They don't come with bridge covers.
8.
Doesn't seem to have any adjustment for the mids though, and to be honest I'd rather have something on board as it's easier to adjust while playing.
You 'twiddle' while playing? I always set up my preferred sound before playing & leave it that way.
9. I can't quite see in the pics, but did you attach the bridge cover with screws? Ie., did you actually drill holes in a brand new bass??? If so, you're a braver man than me!
10. I did go clothes shopping (on't t'internet) & bought this... But I know what you're saying about Music Shops... I spend a lot of time in Electro in Doncaster & at times it's a real candy store! It's a real excercise in self control to leave empty handed. But this coming week I'm going to the ultimate candy store... The Status-Graphite factory in Colchester *Leaves money & credit cards firmly at home!!!*
11. The Contemporary version (available here in the UK) is a more modern sounding version with a tone/sustain block inside it. You can still get the 60's Hofner trademark sound, but also some more modern sounds, too. Put a set of decent rounds on one of these & it's got a bit of a piezo sound to it. Nice basses, but I can't vouch for the quality of these cheaper Icon models. Rich.
12. A few more that I no longer own... Sunburst Groove (bought from fellow BCer Dub Junkie.) My KingBass Artist 5-string which I sold to Ian last year... Energy Artist 5 with graphite neck previously owned by almost everyone on BC!
13. Played a lovely "garden party" yesterday in the pouring rain - Luckily they had us playing in the dining room! Was an Indian GP's family & you have never seen such amazing food. I want to live there, LOL! Did my usual Sunday stint at the Sands Venue in Gainsborough this dinnertime. Lovely roast beef afterwards as well - A weekend of food?
14.
i think im on the verge of gettin one for my ray 5 from the classifieds, its gunna look bloody fantastic!
It'll have a lot of extra bite and growl to the sound as well!
15. Hey Andy & Mr.EBS! Looks like we've got all the major UK luthiers covered between us now! Andy, please stop putting your GB pics up... Every time I see that bass, I want it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
16.
an astonishing difference can be made to a Miller bass by ripping out that $2 preamp and installing an Aguilar OBP1 !!
Yes I've heard this said before, Marcus. I'd be interested in trying the Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal at some point, but I'm not into ripping out wiring and changing preamps in basses - For instance, I'm driving a 400 mile round trip this week just so Rob Green can sort the wiring on the preamp in one of my Status basses. I don't do wiring!
17. I often see these threads on string spacing/scale length etc., and I wonder what the real problem people are having is...? I have pretty average hands witrh shortish fingers & I can comfortably play a full size double bass (whatever the scale length is there!), my Yamaha TRB-6 (35"), Fenders & Status SII's (34") & my KingBass (32") with no adaption between them at all. Is it perhaps that some of you are playing one finger per fret in the lower reaches of the neck? I never use the third finger at all below the 7th position, always compacting the hand to use 4 fingers over the space of 3 frets/gaps. This method also frees up the tendons in the left wrist, as the player isn't expanding the hand unnecessarily. I've also found that making sure the thumb is behind the neck (never peeking over the top edge) placed behind the middle finger maintains this hand shape perfectly. I'm not criticising anyone's playing technique, but wondering if the problems people have are more technique related than gear related? Rich.
18. I found that the Sadowsky outboard preamp/di pedal is an excellent solution for more than one passive bass. No need to do any wiring, just plug the bass you're using at the time in & Bob's your Auntie! I'm actually using it with my Marcus Miller Jazz as the Sadowsky sounds fuller and richer than the onboard Fender pre.
19. I prefer Lydia's 'slightly too tight Fender t-shirt' phase, personally! But yes, she is very cool. Makes me happy to watch/hear her
20. Ah well, let us know how you go on. If anyone can shuttle the bass across the country and meet me on my way from the Humber Bridge down to Colchester one day next week, we'll try and put something together for you, Kev.
21.
i tried to solder the pot back on myself, failed, and now no sound is coming out of the bass at all, and a loud pop can be heard when i switch the led's on and off. wtf have i done
Hey Kev, if it's any help, I'm going down to the factory (Status) in the next week to get my preamp sorted. If you can get to meet up on my way down, I can always drop it into Rob for a look while he's doing mine. Rich,
22. Has to be Wooten for me. Something so serene and cool about him. When you talk to him, it's as if he has all the time in the world for you as well.
23. Hey Nick Yes, I use 'numpties' as well! (I'm a Southerner really!) In The PHD trio (rock band) we're fortunate to have Brett Hallam (ex Shirley Bassey, Marmalade, etc...) He's the kind of player that naturally fills the gaps & not only compliments my fills with his own, but also seems to predict what I'm going to do! It's that sort of psychic playing relationship that I know I've missed when playing with some other drummers. The OutToPlayJazz band has Dave Armshaw (aka. Mr.Harmshaw) who is a very similar player to Brett but has 30 years' less playing experience. We also use Matt Dabbs (formerly from chart band 'Long View') who is possibly the most musical drummer I've ever worked with. His light/shade & phrasing are second to none!
24. Well sounds like you're one really happy bunny, Chris! I think we need to club together and buy you a plane ticket so you can go and hug Roger in person!
25.
i hate to say this but i do admire good drummers. I always take the mick outa them, as they do me but theres nothing like playing with a really good drummer. Ive played with a few bad drummers before and it made everything so hard. Also ive been playing drums for about a year to improve my rhythm when playing. I found learning drums made me a beter player and i recommend that other bassists should do it to.
Another +1 here, too! I've also been fortunate to work with some amazing drummers, but as with the rest of you, I've also worked with some real clunkers! And yes, it does make your life as a bass player really hard work. I suppose the bad ones have one purpose in life... To make us appreciate the fab drummers!
