1. Oh, that's just gorgeous! Congrats
2. Lovely collection, Dave! Like me (and moreso, Nick!) you must spend a small fortune on strings!!!
3. After the huge debates on virtuoso bass players on here, I started thinking of which other musicians I generally admired... I came to the conclusion that I really marvel over jazz pianists. Now I can play the piano (at least well enough to accompany violin/viola/cello/bass pupils), but when it comes to jazz pianists it's another ballgame althogether! These guys take a tune & vamp the chords at sight, improvise over the top & during all this, they're figuring out what inversions of the chords will fit, missing the root note most of the time & make it all look seamless! I really wish I could do all that! Which type of players do you guys admire most?
4.
my s2 classic.....
I remember this one from Statii.com - Really glad you kept hold of it in the end, as it's a real stunner. You don't see many Status basses in solid colours, especially in that colour!
5. Awsome, Chris! How does it compare to your natural metro model?
6. Hey Hellrazor Welcome to the '08 American Standard club, LOL! Glad you like it. If I had enough spare spondoolies at the moment, I'd have the jazz to go with my precision! Your jazz looks stunning
7. That looks really nice! That 70's panda-car blue is getting very popular around these 'ere parts
8. Do you mean you're unsure whether to use one or two batteries?
9. Quite strangely, neither my rock trio or my jazz band have ever rehearsed. It's all completely spontaneous. I think we like it that way. I'm setting up something new this summer (given the time!) And apart from me sorting the sheet music, there'll probably by one or two get togethers before we go out and play it live. I suppose, just from experience, that I've always found that the best place to "rehearse" is to develop a set live with an audience. Seems to gel a lot quicker that way for some reason!
10. I've always been into the Hiscox cases, right from the early 80's with my Hiscox cello case. The Hiscox Status lifelite cases are excellent, too. Right now, I'm really impressed with the new TSA approved SKB case that came with my 08 Fender Precision. Excellent case, very rigid & more than anything, very lightweight as well.
11. Thanks, Ste... Rather stupidly I looked them up on Wiki after I'd put the post up. Any ideas on current values would be good too, guys.
12. That's lovely! I keep passing my nose over MusicMan basses atm... Best of luck with the sale
13. Thanks, Kev... Your Energy is the best value so far, though! More than anything I was wondering exactly how many Status basses we actually had on here between the membership...
14. I took on a new pupil tonight who said he's got a mid-sixties Vox bass. He's going to bring it along next week so I can take some pics, but can anyone shed any light on the company's activities (obviously they only make amplifiers these days!) in the bass making dept.? Also, any sample pics of these instruments? Thanks, Rich.
15. Hey Garry, I'd guess that only the tune & chords are copyright protected. You can't copyright a bassline or a chord sequence as they're both rather generic or at least formulaic! I think there was some spat many years ago between Bon Jovi & Belinda Carlisle. They both produced songs with the same bassline and one tried to sue the other. It was thrown out though, as it was purely coincidental.
16.
OTPJ! You are a Hero! Thanks from all of us .. OG
I haven't forgotten your copy of Victor's Classical Thump. Just getting around to it!!! Can you resend me your email, Si? Oh, and did you just want the first page (the playable bit) or the whole piece? Rich.
17. LOL OBBM! I think we've all been out-Status'd!!! Lovely collection - I hadn't realised that you were the KB prototype man & Streamline man off Statii!
18.
I think beat two is anticipated with a 16'th note, same as the bass drum pattern. As someone pointed out before... Its the Bo Diddley Rhythm with a few ghosties here and there, And a bit swingey Need to click on pic. Garry
Hi Garry, I think you're right there. It does vary a little in places. I was mainly going for the bones of the piece so that Mewsie could get through it for her audition. Not bad for a 30 minute takedown, though
19. The bit at 14 secs is moving from the intro Eb pattern into a fill of bottom Ab to Bb, linking to the vocal part back in Eb. Oh, one little addenum... The F chord marker should be F Minor! (Did this so fast that I forgot chord II in a major key is always minor!!!)
20. I'll start the ball rolling... The original #402 Series II #538 in cocobolo & cherry 2007 S2-Classic in walnut/mahogany 2008 KingBass Artist in walnut/mahogany The big three all together... Is that MB1 & Merton I hear running in...?
21. That looks really nice! May we ask what you eventually paid, or is that too rude?
22. LOL! No, you definitely don't need "better" amplification You've picked three belting choices of bass there. The Bongo as people say is truly biblical sounding, as is the S2 Classic. If you look on the ForSale forum on here you'll find a rather nice S2 being sold by JohnGH. It's only £100 more than a brand new bolt on that you'd have to wait three-four months for! The Status is capable of almost any sound you can dream up. Extremely versatile and very easy & fast to play with a distinctive tone as well. GB is in the same ballpark as Status. Great engineering & fantastic attention to detail & another seriously huge tone pallette. Sounds like you need to do a tour of the country trying these things out and see which you like best. Best of luck on your quest, young knight!
23. Do you read notation, Mewsie? If so I'll transcribe it for you tomorrow.
24. I tried a KB Black Beauty with the new satin finish neck the last time I was at the factory. It was a lovely, but I think I still prefer the glossy ones, personally.
25. Keep having a look on the Basses for Sale page on this forum. There are some real bargains to be had. I just bought a pristine (not a mark on it anywhere!) 2006 brown sunburst Fender Standard Precision for £190. Well worth the travelling & biding your time.
