1. Ooooh, getting all excited now - Just booked my tickets, so will see you all there!
2. That's come out really nice! Apart from the odd spacing of the controls & no graphite neck/body strip on show, you could mistake it for the real thing!
3. I've had a Fortress & a Corvette $$, but never had a thumb. I was very taken by a "Dirty Blonde" last year at a friend's store, but never made the move. Excellent looking bass - Congrats!
4. The Fender onboard one is just boost/cut toggle switch & treble & bass pots. The Sadowsky floorpedal one is two band again, but has several other features, like DI, tuner out, etc...
5. Not sure, to be honest Steve. Some people say it's a Fender, some an Aguilar. I'm betting Fender, as it's quite harsh if you whack both bass and treble full on. Used sensitively it's got a great sound, but I'm waiting to see how it sounds through the Sadowsky preamp/di pedal... Marcus Miller's own 70's Jazz has the Sadowsky circuit built into it.
6. Oh yes, definitely got that 70's jazz 'honk'! Got a Sadowsky preamp/di pedal on order as well - Will report on whether or not it makes a massive difference...
7.
My lots been trying to get on the bill,we have had the word that 'Scouts'* have been watching us and favourable reviews have been passed on,so who knows...next year.
You want to get in touch with the NABD Chairman, Rick Hulse
8. A 2008 American Standard Precision - Due in the next few days, but still not here... A Sadowsky Preamp/DI pedal ordered last week from the man in NYC himself. Again, still not here... Does that count?? Things I 'as not been buying literally... A Tokai Rockinsbetter Rik copy from a little shop in Cleethorpes. I couldn't see the point
9. I'm only qualified to answer Status-Graphite at the moment, but as soon as I can afford it, I'll take a look at GB & Overwater. May be a while, though...
10. Just wondered if anyone else was there last weekend getting muddy? My band was The PHD (headlining the 100% Biker Marquee), although we were outdone by the 'Exotic Dancer' who was on after us!
11. JLP - Great news indeed! We definitely need to get more young players interested. Sarah5String - Throw the telly away! I never watch it, personally
12.
Me. *runs away and hides*
Funnily enough, we can't argue with you there Sarah, being as you're one of our own, as it were! Poor Tal will feel left out
13. Palmystery is the best album Victa's produced since the Yin-Yang (or at least the Yin instrumental half, anyway!) album of 1997. All the stuff in the middle comes across like half-baked funk which sounds more like ill-thought-through hip hop gone wrong! I love all of his technically exciting instrumental-only music, but the vocal stuff just doesn't work for me at all. His style of playing blends a lot better with the Flecktones, where he's not just to be seen as a diva, but as an equal to the other three. (All the Flecktones have acheived god-like status in musical terms!)
14. Hi Mark, the little hum you get when not touching the strings or any metal part of the bass is normal. Mine did it, too! I seem to remember my Geddy Lee & Squier VMJ maple doing it as well. I even get a little from my Marcus Miller Jazz. It's the cycle hum from the single pole pickups.
15. Hmmm... VM TB or Mex? Depends on what style you play. If you play any funk or slap at all, you don't want the tele bass. Any bass with the pickup right up against the neck is zero good for slap playing. The TB is designed for a warm fuzzy 60's sound, whereas the Mex Precision is much more of an all rounder. I'd go Mexican, personally.
16.
You've already got three!!! If it was left handed, headless and was a King Bass, I'd take it.
Guess that's a no on all three counts, then Sounds like you're gearing up for a Status order, Steve!
17. From what I remember reading of your posts in the past, I think you like jazzes, yes? Well I'd be looking at a Sadowsky (import it direct from the factory & just pay the import duty & VAT) as they seem to be the best of the jazz bunch out there at the moment, unless you're going to shell out £2k+ on a GB Spitfire! Otherwise, I'd go Status-Graphite, as has been mentioned by a couple of people on this thread already. Apart from my TRB-6, I have no idea why I spend money on other basses.. Once you've had a Status, there's no looking back.
18. I'd say save your money & get a used Yamaha TRB-6. Mine's the Japanese bolt-on model, the TRB-6 II & it's fantastic. Especially as I picked it up for £425 in mint condition!
19.
Gail Anne Dorsey and Divinity.
Oh yes, I'd quite forgotten about MC.Divinity. She tours sometimes with the Victor Wooten band. Quite a tidy player. It's Tal all the way for me, though
20.
I used it for a gig last night and I can honestly attest that I have never, ever heard a tone like it!!!!!!! I'm am in awe!
Hi Alz, that's a really nice looking bass! As for your comment of being in awe, graphite necks have a habit of doing that to you! Yes, there're times when a wooden neck is nice, but graphite just seems to have more growl and punch than anything else! Congrats!
21. Nice, Paul! I liked the advertising blurb about the "high mass" bridge. How to beat Fender at their own game, but at a fraction of the cost!
22.
I had a 5 string Energy Artist that was very like it. I put a graphite neck on eventually then Beedster bought it - sold it on and last I heard it was with a mate of mine ,and fellow member here, 'Beneathitall'. I went round his gaff to buy a combo and there it was !!
Yes, I bought it from Mike (BeneathItAll)! It was a really nice bass as well. I only let it go because I was offered seriously silly money for it!
