1. I used the S1 on my Jazz quite a bit. It really did give you the thicker precision-type sound. Very useful! But people with Precisions don't seem to bother with it. With no bridge-based pickup it's not going to sound like a jazz, just a thinner, weedier precision!
2. Our drummer in The PHD rock trio is well known for his "orbital toy chucking" activities. Happens on a regular basis, but he's such an amazing drummer that we let him off usually. He always comes back & plays a blinder (including the standard 15-20 minute drum solo!), but this 'drummers and their projectile toys' thing does seem to be quite common. They ought to be laid back like us bass players, eh
3. How old is it & what's the serial number? (It's stamped into the top of the string retainer at the top of the neck...) Do you have any pictures of the actual bass?
4. If you look at it subjectively, they aren't that much more expensive. And yes, the pickups are far superior, especially on the Precisions. The split coil duncan designed pickup is a real stonker. Quality is a lot nicer as well. I had the 70's jazz in the past & it's a really nice instrument, but I now have the Jaco-esque Jazz fretless. Nice things for the money!
5.
Might be an idea to keep it a secret from ped
I was just waiting for Ped to come storming in with a serious amount of pictures of the Queen...!
6. Have a *BUMP* on me, Paul! If this was in the lovely chrome orange, I'd be seriously considering it! Best of luck with the sale
7. Oooh, so busy that I forgot to mention last weekend... OutToPlayJazz (the band, not me!) was out in it's proper line-up for the first time in over a year. (Most jazz band players will tell you that functions, especially weddings, are thin on the ground at the moment, as jazz seems to have gone out of fashion again... Ah well!) Wendy Kirkland played a blinder on piano, her partner Pat Sprakes filled in on guitar and did a lovely subtle job, Dave (Mr.Harmshaw) played an absolute blinder on kit & yours truly had a great time noodling on my Yamaha TRB-6 & the jazz fretless I'd just picked up. Singing for us was Lucy Rhodes (winner of the BBC choirgirl of the year a few years ago.) Details aside, it was one of those gigs that had us all texting eachother afterwards, all of us saying it was an amazing gig - Can't wait for our full lineup to play at the Sands Venue in Gainsborough very soon. So we're into the silly season now... Lots of bookings for OTPJ (again, the band!), the PHD rock trio is out at lots of biker rallies (we're headlining the Farmyard in a couple of weeks & the same at Anglesea in August) & weddings/functions. I'm even out next weekend playing (violin - *GULP* instead of my cello!) in a string quartet for yet another wedding!
8.
Anyone else like this song? Or any other notable basslines in the current charts?
I'm too old to listen to the current charts - Do they still call it music? In my day, etc, etc... Ah yes, I remember now - The track! It was sort of catchy, but a little repetitive if I'm honest. How many nano-seconds did it take you to learn the bassline, then?
9. Excellent looking rig, Andy! I was thinking of adding another 2x10 to mine, but not sure how to deal with only two balanced inputs on the combo. BTW, that GB is still the best looking upmarket jazz I've ever seen!
10. Great looking bass! Looks walnut like two of mine
11.
MB1. A mate of mine bought a Epiphone SG copy(guitar),the neck dive was horendous, leaving the guitar almost unplayable while standing.Me bringing a brick and a piece of string into the rehearsal room didnt go down too well either, however the guitar was returned to the shop and replaced.
Martin, I'd have expected you of all people to experience some neck dive when you get adoring fans swinging off your bendwell!
12. I was reading Sarah5string's first comment on this & was going to point out the fact that she was supposed to be a respectable married woman, but she beat me to it! Sarah... MB1 is always like this - Sorry in advance, LOL!
13.
I tried that Mark Bass stuff out and agree that it has a great sound, serious power and portability but the aesthetics of their gear always puts me off! I know that sound should be everything but I just could not cope with looking like a wasp!
HeHe... I have the 2x10 Traveller cab on top of the mini 15 combo... My drummer's wife says it looks like "Monkeee!"
14. For a really crisp, modern sound with plenty of scope for different music, go graphite necked Status (there's JohnGH's SII 5er on the for sale section) & anything MarkBass. You'll never look back!
15.
Looks like that one's wearing a BadAssII, or at least a much-better-than-usual bridge...
Yes, looks like the same kind of thickness as the one on the Squier deluxe jazz V. No more cheap tin from the Fender group, perhaps?
16. Well if money were no object, it'd have to be that GB Spitfire reviewed in last month's BGM!
17. Not wanting to give you all GAS or anything, but...
18. Lovely looking bass, Ian! What happened to my old KB5 in the end, mate? Rich.
19. Yes, if you're running in active mode, definitely make sure you're plugged into the active socket. It's a very powerful bass!
20. Does anyone have a correct wiring diagram for a Status-Graphite TB42 active circuit, or details on installation? Thanks in advance
21. A lot of the budget copies are very good - Take the Boston P-bass packages at £80-90 brand new. Great for a beginner and better quality than a Squier Affinity. At the top end of the Fender tree, I'd rather have a Sadowsky or a GB. They're specially made, as opposed to the mass produced Fenders. There are many others of course, such as Bachus, Valenti, etc., and many of them simply out-Fender Fender Perhaps the competition is good and makes the Corona California crew constantly improve their product?
22. Wow, John! Is your bolt-on 6-stringer that good??? This is a real surprise!
23.
I agree. Why remove it? There was no positives from taking it away.
Nothing apart from making the bass cheaper to make. I suppose they have to do something in the current economic climate, otherwise USA Fenders will be made in Chinese sweat shops by makers on a dollar a day, etc!
