1.
Does that mean you can sell all your other basses as you have reached Bass 'nirvana'?
No Mart, you can't have my SII & KingBass
2. Does the sound of your bass make you go, "OH YES!!!"?? Just wondered how many of you really love the sound of a particular instrument you have or have had in the past? This only came up as I was playing my 2007 Status S2-Classic this afternoon (only through a little Roland bass cube) & the sound was as good as perfect to my ears. Excellent slap sound, harmonics amazing, really full and growly fingerstyle sound, etc. It can't get much better than this, I was thinking to myself! Similar experiences?
3. For sale, one John East U-Retro 3-band eq preamp with controls, suitable for any 18v active bass with 4 "pot holes" in the body (unless anyone fancies any drilling practice!!!) Controls are... Volume & pickup blend (stacked), Treble & Bass (stacked), Mid/Sweep (stacked), Master Tone & active on/off switch. This is currently being taken out of my recently acquired Status SII and the original Status pre is being re-installed. These usually sell for £190, so I'm selling for £100. Bargain See pic below for the current installation...
4. I must admit, I haven't played one of the new ones, but the jazz should've kept the S1 switching system. It was like having two basses in one. I really liked mine
5.
Be jeezus, what speakers were they?
Possibly the ones you get at Wembley Stadium? Molan, yes... GAS seems to be an incurable thing for many of us. Just when you think you're satisfied with your "lot", you see something else, or think up another way of making "your sound." It's scary & quite expensive, as we've talked about in the last couple of days!
6. I've played a couple of them in stores - They look really cool, especially in the white with the blue/green lit up pots, but the playing experience & the sound were very ordinary.
7. Hmmmm... The obvious one is my old Status SII (#402) which now resides in California as far as I know. The other one, surprisingly, is the Candy Cola S1 Jazz I sold a few weeks back to fund my 1990 Status. The S1 Jazz was excellent. Best jazz I've ever played!
8.
Not being funny but why don't you just buy a Sadowsky?
LOL! Yes, I guess I didn't make it quite clear what I was trying to do... It's the old passive/active argument again. I know that going from an active bass to a passive one I have to increase the gain (thus making the sound a lot harsher.) So I was thinking outboard pre in terms of keeping the amp levels the same, but adding that active boost at the same time. QED?
9. Hey guys, does anyone have or have you experienced the Sadowsky outboard preamp/di pedal? I'm ordering a new American Standard Precision soon & was thinking of the Sadowsky outboard pre instead of messing with the bass adding preamps, etc.
10. Oooh, sunburst & tort guard on both! I'm going to have to put that order in soon - Stop it! Excellent pair of basses - What's the difference on the jazz to the normal MIM models?
11. Excellently executed project there! I'm sure I've never seen a P with a wenge neck before. Looks like a really nice (and unique) bass!
12. I'm starting to think a little in the same way. Will be ordering a new 2008 American Standard this summer (when I get my bonus!!!) I've had plenty of jazzes & none have really fitted into my collection, so time to try a precision now
13. Met up with Fox & his wife in Henley & bought his pristine Squier VM Fretless. Does this make me Jaco now?? Pity it was quite rushed as I'd have loved to stay and have a chat & a coffee Excellent guy who really takes care of his basses & highly recommended to buy from! Rich.
14. That's literally less than half price. I don't have my Status price guide on this computer, but it needs snapping up very quickly at that money! The new ones (Electro 3) have graphite neck & one soapbar pickup in addition to the piezo bridge units. Great bass! Rich.
15. I used to have one. Lovely feeling bass to play & excellent quality as well. Only complaint I had was the lack of output. Pickups are cheap these days, though
16. Victor Wooten's 1983 Fodera has an aftermarket tremolo added.
17. Mrs.T is Terri - Otherwise known as Mrs.Tinman. I spoke to Terri the other day & Tinman has been working away in America for a while. I did ask her if she had him buried under the patio or something, but she replied in the negative As for BassChat... I like it here. For a start, when I preach anti-pc common sense, people always back me up - Can't be such a bad place, can it? Long may we all continue! Rich.
18. 1. Lots of practise... The more you play, the more you harden the fingertips. 2. Ease off the bass and let the amp do the work for you. Think tone, tone, tone! 3. Try some lighter guage strings. My Status basses run on 30-90 guage strings & I find I can play hard for a lot longer on thinner strings. Try say, 40-100 if you don't like them too light.
19. Obviously the quality on the MM22 is never going to be as good as the US Ray, but from the Rays I've played, I'd say the sound is equally impressive. I don't think the woods are going to be as good, but the preamp is something else. Very similar sheer muscle to a Corvette $$ and similar punch as well.
20. Did you try MarkBass cabs at all? I wouldn't change mine for anything! (I'd love an SWR rig for my Triumph upright, but my back wouldn't like it!)
21.
Please stop it. I tried an MM22 last week and it was bloody great. Really tempted to order an MM32 but i'm getting married in 3 weeks and would probably have grounds for divorce pretty quickly !
LOL Machines... I know what you mean! Good luck with the wedding & buying an MM32, mate Rich.
22. Stoo, it's a +1 from me on the OLP MM22 (the twin humbucker active one) - If I worked for Ernie Ball, I'd want that production line closed down as well! That bass is sooo good! I'm still thinking of buying one. I play it every time I go into my friend's shop & it outplays many Fenders, Lakland Skylines of various types, etc. Excellent bass. Buy one before they're all gone, I say! Rich.
23. Welcome to the forum! That's a lovely looking bass
24. As Merton says, nice... In a pointy sorta way!
25. I'm afraid I'm with Machines on this one... I've played one & came to the same conclusions. It didn't feel like an £800 bass at all. Nothing remarkable about the sound & the quality was nothing more than okay. Nowhere near as good as Mart's DJ5. Am I right in saying that they're built in the same Cort factory as the Squier VMJs?
