1.
Love that middle one! I presume that's an early status.
Yes, it's a 1990 "third phase" Series 2 (the one they eventually renamed the Empathy), serial no. 538, so only a few ahead of my original #402. Lovely cocobolo facing wood with cherry back - Oh, and a John East preamp, too.
2.
If only they had heads :'(
Strange thing is that after having played mainly headless basses for the last 18 years, when I play a 'headed' one I usually knock the headstock into something when I'm on stage, etc. They really do balance better as well!
3. Thanks for the nice feedback, Luke... I've always liked the gloss finish Warwicks & your blue Streamer is no exception. "Status" who bought your Shark II obviously likes your old bass so much that he's selling his black passive one now!
4. Yes, and the one with Mr.Wooten, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW0WXhJVkVo
5. Anyone seen the YouTube videos of Felix Pastorius (Jaco's son)? Talk about a chip off the old technique block!
6. A big *BUMP* for Ian... This is a great bass & I was the original owner. I ordered it new from Status-Graphite in Feb 2006 & it really has a lot of power & a huge scope of sounds available. I'd actually like it back, but funds don't allow at the moment! Buy it quick
7. +1 for Status. Rob and Dawn always make sure you're completely happy, no matter whether you're buying a set of strings of a £2K bass.
8. Swing turns each pair of quavers into a "tripletised" crotchet & quaver. In short it works like a lazy dotted pattern. From the tone of Pete's original post, he's also getting at what Mr.Wooten calls "grooving" with the drummer.
9. The Flecktones' "Sinister Minister." Scary stuff!
10. Thanks Martin, it's a 1990. Terry had it from new, so it's in amazing order for an 18 year old bass!
11. All three together... Terry's original pictures are sooo much better...
12. Hi everyone, I went yesterday to pick up my long awaited 1990 Status Series II from Terry K. Not only was the bass freshly restrung & polished, but Terry had a full gig rig set up ready for me to try the bass through. The instrument came with the John East pre & the original Status pre, as well as all the original cases (both flight & gigbag) and all the original paperwork. Many thanks, Terry - Not only for being a great host, but also for looking after this amazing instrument for the last 18 years. VBR, Rich.
13. The 614 in this Pewter colour looks admittedly dowdy in pictures, but I'm sure Paul will tell you that it looks great in the 'wood', as it were! It's the colour I'd order - It's set off really nicely by the chrome surrounds around the pickups. *BUMP* for a really nice and excellent value bass.
14. That's a lovely looking bass, Chris & a very individual colour as well! Will have to compare it to some Statiis at a bash at some point! Is it a 2 band pre or passive?
15. The end of run S1 jazz I bought in February had a hard shell case with it. Incidentally, I spent around 2 hours in SC in Nottingham the other week. The bass chap there was not only a pro player, but highly professional & upon hearing the gear I had, suggested that what I needed was a Precision to complete my bass setup. Good advice! The shop was looking very bare, though.
16. I've sold all my surplus stuff now (apart from the Hofner which may still be useful for 60's cak!) Now down to 3 Status basses (yes, the new KingBass was pure indulgence, I admit it!) & my TRB-6 which has a similar modern hifi sound but all the extra range I'll ever need. Also have my Warwick Triumph upright for jazz work. I'm ordering a 2008 American Standard Precision in the summer (in the lovely new sunburst with red tort guard), so I have all the basses *PUN* covered as it were. Yes, we can 'hoard' too much gear & I've just had a cull to make room for the third Status. Did I need it? Hmmmmm...
17.
Great issue. Is it a coincidence that the weekend warriors are always Basschatters ?
Perhaps it's the case that most of the bassplayers around the UK come onto this server now? Maybe this website is to blame for the UK's bass player population suffering from incurable gas??
18.
Welcome to the Status club........
+1 !!!
19. That's a really individual & great looking instrument. How's the preamp sound through those twin split coils?
20. Well, there's a blast from the past! Fred taught me for a while at South East Derbyshire College, way back in the dark ages (or the 80's!)
21. :brow: *BUMP* for some pics of this ultra cool bass! :brow:
22.
I hear what your saying but I've got a problem holding onto things. The status is actually amazing and trading it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I might just satisfy my recent craving for a jazz bass and go out and buy one. Cheers
LOL, that's a better way of doing it. I've had three jazzes in the last couple of years, but I still have my Statiis! Although, don't let me stop you if someone offers you the right money That said, if I wasn't already tied into buying a lovely old 1990 Series 2, I'd be knocking on your door with a thousand pounds! Rich. Btw, call me a little eccentric, but I had a period last year (only about 4 weeks) with no Status bass in my posession... Felt totally wrong & almost panicky! Call me a sad man by all means...
23. Did your Heritage Mockingbird arrive yet?
24. Sadowskys are great instruments, but I'd still be inclined to say, "DON'T DO IT!!!"
25. The Warwick has more of a balanced sound than the Spector. I was playing a nice Euro Spector 5 in SC the other day. Compared it against an FNA Jazzman. The Warwick has the more wooden sound, but the Spector is the much brighter bass. Would still go for a Warwick in preference, though.
