Sounds lovely! Lots of people are buying these atm! Got any pics?

Great sound, cool name - Go for it!

I wish! I have a list of things I'm working my way through... Status S2-Classic - Got it! Status KingBass - Got it! Status Series 2 - Coming very soon... 6-string Overwater... One day! 5-string fretless... Musing over this one... Epiphone 5-string banjo... Just a passing fancy.. Another double bass... Been putting it off for too long! Bass Cube 100... If we get many more 60's gigs, this will be needed as opposed to wanted! Oh, I forgot the Status Streamliner I keep looking at ordering as well! So little time & money, etc...

The Geddy Lee is very good, but I'd instead go for one of the last S1 Jazz basses from Sound Control. They're a lot better - I've owned both!

Nothing to laugh about with those... I had a pupil with one in Electroin Blue. It played great! The next question is what type of music do you play? Eg., the Vintage Modified TB is more suited to 60's stuff with it's pickup right up to the bottom of the fingerboard. Same story with the Epiphone EB series. Lovely sounding basses, but no good for more modern music, especially slap playing. The best all rounders in that price range are the Squier VM 70's jazz & VMJ Precision. If you can stretch to an EB3, how about a Yamaha BB614 with 3-band active eq? Possily the best value in that bracket! Used, you're in the ballpark of almost new Fender Mexican Jazzes & Ibanez BTB/SRX series basses. It's all down to what you really like... Go out and try some at your local music store

Your thoughts on 33" scale 5 string basses?
OutToPlayJazz replied to Mike's topic in General Discussion
My KingBass Artist 5-string had the 32" scale & the B had no tension problems at all. Sounded amazing, so I'd guess you'll have no problems with a 33" instrument. Would the almost guaranteed straight/flat graphite neck of the Status be a reason for it, or is scale length usually more of a problem on wooden basses? -
Which Squier do you have at the moment?

I'm with the BigBeefChief on this one... (Apart from his lack of taste where jazz is concerned!) I listened (or at least tried) to the RadioHead tracks from the Jonathan Ross show on YouTube & didn't make it through a single one of them. The singer couldn't hold a tune in a bucket & I could teach a total moron to play those basslines in 30 mins flat. So not very musically challenging & a dreadfully depressing durge to boot! Oh dear, I sound like my Dad! Oh yes, the point of the thread... Yes, the sound mix quality was lovely for tv studio stuff. Pity about the content, that's all

I still think your Warmouth Precision is stunning! Look forward to trying it at a bash sometime (as long as it's not on a Sunday, LOL!)

Lovely collection! Again, the white jazz is a stunner! -
3 USA fenders at soundcontrol for £699 each
OutToPlayJazz replied to kevbass's topic in General Discussion
Sound Control bought up the last batch of S1 American Jazzes & P's. They're selling them off at £699 (about £150-£200 off list) because the new 2008 American Standard series is going down a storm. I got one of the last S1 Jazz basses in Feb at that price & it seems to be a hybrid between the old and new. Mine has the rolled fingerboard edges & hipshot tuners. The last few MIA jazzes I tried before I found mine had what I call the "half finished" neck without the rolled edges. Concensus over on talkbass seems to be that the new 2008 Precision without the S1 is excellent (seems S1 never did the P-bass any favours), but that the S1 jazz has better output than the new 2008 jazz, although this could vary from bass to bass, of course! Now I want a 2008 American Standard Precision in 3TS with amaple board. Yum! (Never wanted a Precision before!) -
Being as I'm one of the 'jazz' players on here (amongst other genres, of course) I thought I'd better put my hat in the ring... Having gotten seriously into Victor Wooten in the past year, this led me onto Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. What a band! The concept of blending bluegrass banjo licks with jazz & funk is just amazing & technically excellent to listen to. I also love all the jazz standards (I have a pad for functions filled with over 200 of them!). Diana Krall is my modern favourite, but not when she's backed by massive string washes! Better with the simple trios/quartets like on "The Girl in the Other Room."

Looks like a really nice bass... Is that the new Blizzard Pearl colour? At the end of the day, it's not going to be brand new and shiny for long, so what really counts is how it plays, I suppose Looking at the pics, there's more adjustment on the bridge saddle for your G. Lines up with the pickup poles nicely, though.

As I've said in many posts on here, you really need to play a lot of Fenders to get the right one. Quality control on the USA ones is patchy & you really do need to check out a few to make sure you get a good one. I was lucky with my MIA S1 jazz, it really is a well finished instrument and oozes quality. Conversely (I assume your Indonesian one is a Squier VMJ?) the quality control on the Japanese models seems very consistant, and Squier just gets better and better. Also, the last few new MIM jazzes & precisions I've played have been stunning - In particular a sunburst MIM jazz at SC in Leeds. It blew every other bass in the shop away! Oh, I almost forgot... The MIA is the first picture - Oh, is that the new American Standard? Got any better pics oif it?

www.thomann.de do reasonably priced bows, both German & French.

Hi again, Nick... Looks like a lovely bass you ended up with there. I keep thinking of a Precision but keep resisting atm, as I'm still collecting Status basses. Excellent description of the guard change & setup process. Do you go by the string heights, etc in the Fender handbook?
-
I have a friend who has one of these... Sound is quite nice, but string spacing is quite tight. Probably 16.5mm or something like that. Depends if you can get along with something that narrow. Seems only I complain about that sort of thing, especially on the 5-string OLP's! And no, there's no import duty on shipping items from EU countries. VAT should be included in the price.

Love that Ken Smith BT6! Excellent collection, Mike

LX's are usually around £1800-£1900 new.
