This is an astounding bass with a hugely versatile sound. Ask anyone around the forum how good these are! A couple of tiny chips around the bottom edge, but with coloured matt oil finish, nothing a little dab or two of black wood stain wouldn't cover over very effectively. Spec: Warwick Corvette $$ Doublebuck BK, 4-strg., US Swamp Ash Body, Ovangkol Neck with Wenge Fretboard, 24 Frets, 2 passive MEC Humbuckers with big Polepieces, active MEC 2-band Electronic, black Hardware, incl. Gigbag, Natural Oil Finish. Also, this bass was recently set up by Rob Green at Status Graphite, so the action is sublime! [b]Yours for £500.[/b] Hofner Violin bass, contemporary series, gloss black with white piping, in mint condition with very hard to find genuine Hofner gig bag. Currently strung with 40-100 "jazz bass 77" flats. [b]Yours for £275.[/b] Also, to save me doing another post... I'm selling my Ibanez Artcore AS-83. No, if you look at the bass in an upright elevation, it's to the right (underside) of the strings and a little higher than the pickups. Just a round hole about 3/4 inch deep and painted over, so it's definitely a standard feature of the Fender bodies. I have seen pictures of vintage restorations where the control cavity routing leads to one of these holes via a routed "track".

I did a service & pickguard replacement on a nice Mexican Precision the other week & noticed a round recessed hole above the control cavity. Why do Precisions have this hole? Does it serve any purpose?

The article is a very interesting read. Just goes to show that no matter what bass you play, or how much you spend on it, some instruments feel just right & sound just right. I really like the new flamed laminates that hold it together as well

Piccolo basses should be blown. Players of tenor basses should sing backing vocals in the style of Pavarotti. Fender basses should be attached to the front bumpers of road-going vehicles as extra crash protection. Viola basses should be played under the chin with a bow & never under any circumstances should the player be given a tune to play! Status basses should only be played by a certain class of musician. GB basses shall only be played by British citizens. Perhaps I ought to give Mark his bass rig back...?

Yep, the Squiers are all Chinese (I think) & none the worse for it! The Telebass shapes are Japanese, same as the Geddy Lee signature. Only ones from the Americas, as it were, are the Precision Deluxe Specials. They're Mexican made. Jono, you can always snap up one of the last MIA S1 models, like I did with my jazz. They're £699 at sound control, as opposed to the list price of around £900.

There's a nice big-bodied Tanglewood for under £300. They feel and sound really nice.

While we're on this subject, I'll be putting my Ibanez AS83 Archtop (335-type large-bodied guitar in violin sunburst with P90 clones) up for sale on the "others" for sale section as soon as I get around to it. Depends on whether you're feeling ready to gig yet, or not. If you're just playing at home, a 30W Roland Bass Cube is just the tricket. Amazing little piece of kit! But if you're looking to do smaller gigs sooner rather than later, I'd be looking at something like an Ashdown Electric Blue 180w combo. They're both in the same price range at under £200.

On my Status basses I use the hotwire 30-90 double ball sets. The Warwick & Fender have Rotosound 35-90's & the Yamaha TRB-6 is running on Roto 30-125's. Only exception is the Hofner which is currently running on Rotosound 40-100 jazz bass 77 flats. If I get around to getting a Precision in the near future, I'll start on 45's & maybe drop to 40's. Love the sound of thicker strings on a Precision So all in all, yes, "Oi 'as mainly been using girl's strings!"

I really liked mine, but ended up trading it in to help with paying for my Warwick $$. Great basses, these VMJ's As for the best bass I've ever played... Has to be my new KingBass. Utterly stunning!
