1. Just found the main website - They're a Korean company who're building their new range of basses in China. Have a look at http://www.aceguitars.co.kr
2. I'd like to try the 8-stringer. Always been a concept/sound that's fascinated me! Might save up a few pennies and take the risk Did anyone see that they do a jazz bass for £70 as well??
3. I've been scouring the 'bay for some cheap basses to rent in packages to pupils. Obviously there's the "Boston" packages at around £80-90 a go, but I was looking at these Wesley basses... The transparent ones look ultra cool for kids to play! Any experiences of "Wesley"? http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Wesley-Guitars
4. Yes indeed, sympathy all round! I'd say one of the smaller bodied instruments, like a Hohner B2 or Steinberger Spirit, or a Hofner Contemporary Violin Bass, like mine. Great sound, compact & very light.
5. Try contacting Tony Morgan at BassBags on 07976 758727 - He imports himself & cuts out the dealers, as it were. For example, I buy Chinese-American cellos from him at £1400 which go for £2500 at the dealers.
6.
Erm.....that's a Sei flamboyant.
Oops... Now I blew the picture up, I see it is, yes!
7. Zellers are usually very sturdy instruments - I've never seen any of the basses, but I have pupils who have had the cellos. The only problem I've encountered is that the front panels are not of uniform thickness & have too much wood in the middle, therefore dulling the sound & making the instrument very quiet. If you go and look at it, have a look through the f-holes & make sure that there isn't a huge slab of wood in there. If it plays nicely & seems loud enough for you, go for it
8. As you can see from the avatar, I've got the Warwick Triumph - It's sublime! I get a great sound from my MarkBass stuff with it & when I play at the Sands Venue at Gainsborough, they put me through a lovely SWR stack. The engineer there says it's the most authentic & lovely sounding EUB he's worked with
9. Bass_Junkie, let's see... The Japanese build quality is supreme (some even say better than the MIA models), the whole neck/fingerboard is glossed, the signature model has the neck further shaved down in thickness (thumb to fingers) the same as Geddy's original neck on his 72, so it's an ultra fast neck. The badass II bridge comes as standard, it has the vintage USA pickups, so the bass frequencies are very warm, while the top end is Marcus Miller sharp. All in all it's a fantastic bass for the money. (I got mine from Thomann.de for £588.) Look at the spec of all the bits & none of the rest of the Fender range comes close for the money. Don't get me wrong, I've had a standard Mex Jazz 5-stringer & it was lovely, but this is just in another league for playability
10. Dangerboy, that metal plating looks cool! Did it weigh a ton? Looks like a Precision after being assimilated by the Borg! Resistance is futile!
11. Si, it's done on the quantity of posts you've made on the forum Welcome!
12. One of these... And one of these... One of these... And one of these... One of these... Through these... WelshTigerBoy, love that new $$ through neck! Having the bolt on model myself, I know how easily it is to get totally hooked on them - Amazing basses!
13. SiOfBass, The Geddy Lee signature is a made in Japan model, with lovely build quality to boot. You are right, some of the current Fender artist models are made by the custom shop division, but only the Pino Palladino Precision & the Reggie Hamilton Jazz models. I'd hope these two were pretty good, being as they usually have price tags in excess of £2,000!
14. Thanks, NJ - It's from Thomann in Germany... Cheapest around without going to great lengths to get one from the USA. Yes, I know what you're saying about the Squier VMJ, as I had one earlier this year. It was a nice enough instrument to play, but the Geddy has it nailed in every respect. Played through my MarkBass rig it's more than a match for my Warwick $$, if not packing quite the punch. In short, the best jazz I've ever played, including US models, which I've always found cumbersome and awkward to play. This one is fast, lithe & "slinky"!
15. That's lovely... I'd really like the 4-string version, like Tal Wilkenfeld's instrument.
16. I've got a new Geddy Lee MIJ jazz & used to have a Squier VMJ maple. The only difference in straight looks is that the headstock on the Squier jazzes is a bit shorter and fatter. Looks almost a little mishapen. You have to really look at it to spot it, though.
17. Lovely MM's That Bongo is a fantastic looker, especially in that colour. Should be in the bassporn section, methinks!
18. That's a fantastic looking Ibanez, Luke... Got my eyes on that six-string Status as well...
19. Thanks guys! Sibob, I think they'd be remarkably similar, apart from you probably have the S1 switching & the Geddy Lee neck is shaved a lot thinner (thumb to fingers) just like Geddy's '72. I think it's the thinnest jazz neck I've ever felt!
20. That's a fantastic looking finish - Quite like Mr.Moo's "Mrs.Moo" Status basses (from Stati forum)
21. I like his "aged" 50's p/telebass, but I think he overdid the ageing thing, unless it's really meant to look as though it's done a few rounds with an industrial sander!
22. Sharkfinger, apparently there is a japanese standard if you look at my link I didn't know, either! http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/index.php?...guitars&a=3
23. Just looked at The Guitar Emporium (another Japanese importer) & the difference seems to be about £90 more for the vintage one. You seem to get a maple neck (worth it!), vintage japanese p-pickups & bridge. Both have the basswood body. It's another £120 to get into the alder body variety. Have a look at the link, all the specs are there http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/index.php?...guitars&a=3
24. Well, two days on & it's appeared via UPS... Setup even with the stock strings is sublimly low & fast. Everything they say about the neck on the GL is true... It's the loveliest jazz neck I've ever played on! Will need to bring the action up a little when I change the strings later, as I usually take my basses down to 35-90's.
25. Actually, it just arrived... So that's ordered from stock on Tuesday am, dispatched Tuesday 4pm, arrived 10am Thursday Just putting up pics for bassporn forum now...
