1.
Now for the mother of all Status basses. My very own Buzzard. I got this in September 2005 (new of course) and it is apparently the last one ever made. I had planned to save for a year to get one. I'd given up smoking and everything then all that Warwick rubbish happened. I was skint for 8 months after that. The sweet taste of beans on toast became a regular occurence. It was all worth it though. The thing is a beast and arguably, the best bass bass guitar ever made. I'm sure lots of people will disagree. Just my opinion.
I know a lot of people lust after the Buzzards - And to have the very last production model is something very special indeed! Congrats on a stunning instrument
2. You're welcome, GW - I find the early Fender history fascinating. I have a lovely reference book called, "The Fender Bass - An Illustrated History" by Black & Molinaro.
3. When they moved the rest in the 70's, they put it here on the Precision of the time... http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t180/im...pg?t=1240591643 Apparently, the tug bar became a thumb rest around 1974.
4. Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Tal Wilkenfeld, Tamas Barabas, etc...
5. Hey Hen Barn, the S2-Classic is still in production. Same as three of mine. Are you confusing them with the S2000?
6. Hi Parker, Out of those three I'd definitely be going for that red Precision. The mex classic series are a really well made and beautifully finished instrument & you can always swap out for a more powerful pickup later if you choose to.
7. GuitarGuitar.co.uk & The Gallery at Camden are the two main Sadowsky importers in the UK as far as I know. Failing that, you'll have to order them direct from Sadowsky.
8.
After stupidly selling my red Fender P5 deluxe last year i have been looking out for a replacement, and finally bought this one last week on the ebay..i took a chance on not seeing or playing it before buying but had a good result, Its just great, looks good, weighs only 9lbs 4ozs..and a big bonus, the neck is slightly slimmer than the last one,and the B string is good. I have used it at one gig and a couple rehearsals and am very pleased with it.
Congrats, Andy - Looks like a nice find
9.
Spent last night rewiring me not-for-export Jap Standard with a Dimarzio DP122 [cream, of course] and the usual CTS / Switchcraft gubbins. Lovely.
How bigger difference have the Dimarzios made, Johnny?
10. I used to be the same with my original Status for 16 years. Now I do a lot more varied music, so there are more basses. Yes, I could manage with one Status & a couple of Fenders, but I now have a bass for every situation I'll potentially find myself in. It's a nice comfortable place to be For storage & carriage purposes, I wish I had the one bass & a 600w rig as tiny as the average mobile phone, though...
11. I only have a 12AX7 in the preamp stage on my Genz head, but I always carry my solid state Little Giant for just in case. I can't see the valve in the Genz dying any time soon, but it's always good to be prepared.
12.
I could write about this ad nausem as my favourite bases at this moment are my Rickenbacker and my Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision. I'll write a bit more once my dissertation is finished but I love them both. The Rickenbacker is harder to play, the neck is huge and body hurts your arm, while the tone can be enormously satisfying at times. However, I'm finding at the moment my P is just much more fun to play and noodle on. The neck is so easy to navigate and with flats, the tone is exquisite. It's deep, throating and drives the music along. It's making me want an American Vintage '62 as Rich knows but I'm upgrading mine with a new pickup and electronics for the meanwhile. It plays like butter!
Funny you should say that - I keep thinking of the Fiesta Red Squier with a Nordstrand pickup and some Thomastik flats as a Pino on the cheap
13. Lovely looking bass with stunning wood grain visible through the lacquer. Congrats!
14. Just as long as it's friendly and impartial, I'd guess that's fine by me, although the last basschatter that I bumped into at a gig with my old rock trio rudely told me that I should use a pick and that I should eq some mids into my sound. He didn't politely suggest. He told me, LOL! Dickhead! I'd be up for going to see some other basschatters' gigs and I'd promise to be nice.
15. Lovely JJ-esque setup. Like the Precision
16. Addictive? Oh yes. I had 6 Status basses for a while, but I trimmed things back down to the four I actually play professionally - *PHEW!* Hen Barn's S2000 is a really nice example. I think that'll make someone a really nice bass. Yes, the all graphite models are great, too. I love my Streamline and am still waiting for Rob to reissue the 2000 in the form of a re-shaped Stealth. It might happen!
17. I keep expecting the next "bump" to be replaced with an "Ouch! - She's found my bass stash!"
18. Yes, really nice & original shape. Good work How does it play?
19.
Why thank you sir - you are a gentleman and your comments are greatly appreciated! When I'm next over your way, I'll be sure to bring the bass along with me (and you can teach me how to play it! )
You do realise that if your stunning SII ever came through my door Lawrence, you'd have to prise it out of my cold dead hands to get it back, don't you? But yes, you're welcome anytime - And I'll send you away with some serious practise to do!
20.
anyone selling a 5 string??? headed???
I know you've been looking for a long time, hen barn. Hopefully your S2000 will shift and you'll be able to go to the factory and buy a stock 5-string S2 soon. For the Status fraternity (either current players or those wanting to own a Status bass), hen barn has this lovely SIMS led-equipped S2000 for sale at the moment. Help make him a happy man by buying this so he can get his shiny new S2-Classic 5-stringer...
21. I'm not a sonic blue fan traditionally, but that bass really stands out on stage. The pearoid scratch guard works very well, too. I looked through all of the pics - It seems someone stole your shirt in some of them. Adoring female fans, perhaps?
22. The only one I'm very careful about is the Myrtlewood Status. It goes out occasionally, but the main five-stringer I gig is the bolt-on S2. I used to be very precious about my KingBass Artist 5 as well - So much so that I ended up selling it. I do different types of gig now, anyway. No more rowdy pubs & clubs for me. (Famous last words!)
23.
Cheers guys, food for thought I really want this bass, can afford it and would keep it forever ........... However, as you say, it would be to nice and pricey to take to many places Which is why at present I only play my perfect mapleglo Ric in the church, and gig my MIM P in front of the party booze drinkers
I know exactly what you mean, lojo... I'm playing my Road Worn Jazz - "Can I have a go on your bass, Mister?"............ "Yeah, sure!" I'm playing my AV 62 or one of the Status basses - "Can I have a go on your bass, Mister?"............ "What part of **** *** don't you understand?!"
24. Anyway, it's nice to have finally found a Precision I adore! It took a while & I even looked at quite a few vintage ones, but none of them hit me between the eyes like the AV has. As Peter said, he originally bought the bass because it sounded totally unlike every other Precision he'd played. Definitely a Precision, but with that extra added "something." Happy days
25.
I was wondering this as well but I've spoken to Rich and it seems that the Mexican 50s with a new pickup might be a better bet! The Japan ones seem to vary in quality and they are around £500 for a used one (see fareastguitars.co.uk). I'm going to look at 50s Fiesta Red tomorrow and will report back!
That Mex 50's will sound awesome with a Wizard Thumper or Nordstrand in it!
