1. Wow, that's some money's worth, Rich! They sound really nice & as they say, imitation is the best kind of flattery Looking forward to the pics of these two stunners! Why do you tend to go for the headed models, btw? (Just curious - I always go for the headless models for Status basses, apart from if I eventually order a KB-MkII. That would have to be headed!)
2. Yes, back off the tone control about 25% and you're there. The bottom end really is immense with these strings. Can't believe the difference! I've been using the 40-100 FatBeams on Jazzes & my previous EBMM basses and they've always been really good strings. Long lasting as well. Ed Friedland did a direct comparison between the Hi-Beams and the FatBeams & decided there really was more bottom end and roundness to the tone on the FB's. 3. What a difference some decent strings make! I put some temporary new EB Slinky strings on the AV 62 Precision last week and they were not only too harsh, but had far too much tension as well. I received my DR FatBeams this morning and popped them on, did some slight adjustment of string height and the difference is astounding. I avoided the temptation to go 40-100 like on my Jazz and went for the 45-105 set. (Some of you will know well that DR strings are compression wound and feel a little softer than some other brands. DR 45's feel more like 40's and 40's feel more like 35's, etc.) The bass now has a massively rounded bottom end to the sound, but the same overall crystal-like clarity. Seriously impressed with this one!
4. Mmmm.... That is gorgeous! I've played a few of these and they're excellent basses for the money. Best of luck with the sale.
5.
Fender does this one http://www.fender.com/uk/products/search.p...rtno=0190086805
That's a nice Precision - Which one is it? Not seen that one before.
6. That Grand Wazoo is a very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very (ad infinitum...) nice man!
7.
Flanker?
Doctor_of_the_bass
8. Of course, there is one man who's list of shame is at least twice as long as mine & Birdy's..............
9. I forgot the most impressive one! Bela Fleck and the Flecktones did their own version of the "Twelve days of Christmas" the other year... It starts with 1 in a bar, increasing by a beat per day up to 12/8 time for the twelfth day. Oh, and it goes up a semitone each day as well!
10. 51 total for me, excluding double basses and EUB's. Adding to the OP's other comment, I only had 9 (in 19 years, one of them for 16 years!) before BC. Hmmm.......... Breakdown is as follows... 12 Status-Graphite 10 Fender 8 Squier 5 Yamaha 3 Warwick 2 EBMM 1 SBMM 1 ACG 1 G&L 1 Epiphone 1 Washburn 1 Jackson 1 Hofner 1 Ibanez 1 Columbus 1 Hohner 1 OLP
11. Next you'll be saying he needs to be playing an old double bass with one string (more than one would be decadent!), wearing dungarees and chewing a piece of straw in order to play that style of music!
12. Lovely looking bass, but not sold on the colour - Faded Fiesta Red is the closest I go to pink, personally.
13. Many moons ago I played double bass for the premiere of a Colin Touchin piece which alternated between a bar of 13/8 and a bar of 5/8 all the way through. I recently did a week of the musical, "Chess" and that one changes all the time. One particular part cycles through 5/8, 3/8, 7/8 & 6/8, changing every bar. Keeps you on your toes! One of the most interesting ones is "America" from West Side Story. It's marked at the beginning of the piece 6/8:3/4, meaning that the whole piece consists of one bar of 6/8 followed by one bar of 3/4 over and over again.
14. Congrats, Nick - Those top of range PM's are really nice basses with a huge dark sound to them as well. I always play the "Supreme" model whenever I go to Electro Music.
15. Lovely basses, Rich! What S2's did you order in the end? I seem to recall replying to one of your comparison threads on Statii. Rich.
16. I'd have worn all black and played a headless Status in the same situation. It's the notes you play and the sound you produce that counts.
17.
I'm thinking about buying one of these at the moment...I've always fancied one!
Nice choice The 32" scale version with the bendwell is seriously fast and easy to play as well. Awesome basses.
18. What he's playing fits perfectly with the music & the bass sounds great. What more do you want?
19. Every time I've picked up a Status S2 for a gig in the last twenty years. It's like marrying the exotic girl next door when you're twenty and never looking back
20. Lovely looking bass - Congrats!
21. Funny, isn't it? Jazzes are just great for zipping around on. All those ultra fast runs you hear in your head just come naturally on a jazz and the "honk" from the slight cancellation between the pickups is always a joy. At the end of the day, a Precision is a big bruiser designed for shoving big bass tone into people's faces, but the jazz is a more elegant solution with a slightly more delicate and articulate sound & that snappy top end when you dig in is just awesome.
22. Looks like it was rescued from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina!
23. Nice find, Chris - Are you buying it?
24. The only one I can find is the 1981 "International Series" in Sahara Taupe - Close enough? Apart from that, there was an official Fender colour called "Firemist Gold" in the mid sixties, like this one...
