1. Make sure the action on your bass isn't too high. That's the first thing I'd be checking. Generally, the more you play the harder your fingertips should get and become more resistant to the damage. Perhaps Sarah's comment on allergies is correct. The other thing I noticed about your post was your mention of octaves. Keep the index finger on the lower note and take 2,3 & 4 up for the upper note. That way your hand is strongest and at it's most organised. Rich.
2. "Darling, now you really must sell your bass on the BC marketplace because as you see, I have literally nothing to wear!"
3. Anyway, it's a lovely looking bass, Clarky. Congrats. But what happens if your Nash turns out to be better? *Ducks!*
4. I have a 2000 model Stingray with a piezo bridge, not unlike the Sterling in the video. The real bonus is that with just the piezo and the player concentrating their RH playing up at the end of the fingerboard, you get a very passable double bass-like sound.
5. Lovely setup you have there - Congrats. All you need now is a Status to complete it!
6. Ballpark average for the Japaese Fenders is usually around 400. Yours looks like a nice one as well.
7.
Could I interest you in a MIA Jazz Fretless?
Thanks for the offer mate, but I'll pass.
8.
MB1. ..More Woodshedding Rich? How many Stingrays are left?...says 2 on the Avatar! ...You going Totally Carbongraphitous? BUMP!
Hi Martin, yes just a little. Just doing the usual act of selling off basses that aren't earning me money. Still have the piezo Ray which is a sublime example of the breed, but all Status apart from that and the jazz at the moment. Not going totally Statusified, just rationalising a little. Rich. Btw, thanks for the great comments, guys!
9.
Only a year? I left a set of elixirs on my P for at least 3 years. Maybe it was 4. 'Normal' strings last me about 3 rehearsals before they go off. Elixirs save me a fortune.
Yes, I was very impressed with the Elixirs. I had a nice light set on my 75 RI & once they bedded in they sounded great and never seemed to go "off". I've also been highly impressed with the DR Marcus Miller FatBeams. These also seem to last a long time & give massive tone as well.
10. No, the string spacing on the Yamaha 6 is around 17-18mm. Wide enough but not the same as a 19mm four stringer.
11.
This is the second time I've been tempted by a Jazz bass of yours Rich. And yet again I am cashless.
Hey Mart, I'd swap it for that mahogany 30th Stingray you have.
12. Look for a Yamaha TRB-6. Either the original model or the later bolt on TRB-II. They're excellent. Very playable necks and a massive range of available sounds. I wish I'd never have sold mine!
13. **NOW SOLD! THANKS FOR ALL THE INTEREST!** Okay, well you've all seen these pictures before around the place, but this one is now for sale as it's just not being gigged. Fantastic as new condition and possibly the best Jazz bass I've ever played. Currently strung with DR FatBeams 40-100. It's finished in gloss poly 3-tone sunburst and has gorgeous crimson sections. The neck is satin lacquered & the fingerboard/headstock are poly glossed. Stunning! Comes complete with the new style Fender case & all relevant tools and case candy. I'm also throwing in the Sadowsky Preamp/DI pedal which gives this instrument super jazz output and sound. £800 for the lot. As per usual, cash sale preferred, but offers of potentially interesting trades also welcomed. Worst I can do is reply in the resoundingly negative. Rich. 07545 471037
14. It sounds a little over, but with all the price increases & currency collapses during the last 18 months that's how much they are now. The average RRP in a music store for an MIM Fender bass is around £629. That's the point where you buy the Squier and know you're not only getting the better deal but quite often the better bass as well. Had I not got a scorching deal from Dave at Electro, my Am.Std. Jazz would have been £1179. Luckily we can still buy them at the internet retailers for a lot less, but there's always the chance that yours will be a dog if you haven't had the chance to inspect/play it first.
15. By the sounds of how much you love your Sadowsky, I'd also be inclined to say, "Don't do it." Keep your favourite bass and save for a Wal. That give you a win-win scenario.
16. Nice choice. From the ones I've played, the new series (since Jan 2008) Jazz V is just about the best passive V out there. Congrats!
17. I've had quite a few sets of DR FatBeams 40-100 now & I've only had one slightly dull sounding D string. Overall, I'm very impressed with them and love the soft feel compared with other brands. They last a very long time, too.
18. Knowing Tal & Vinnie, they'll be onto bigger and better things. It's about time Tal did a second album as well. Maybe that's in the works...
19. Pete, aka Thor, just did a 400 mile round trip to pick up a bass from me. Lovely guy & a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended! Rich.
20. So it's a Lakland P-style bass with a chisonic pickup in a mint green colour, yes?
