For those of you who didn't see it, Rob's New Year message on Statii and on the Status website. Also, the promise of great things in 2010... Good Morning All and a Very Happy New Year from all at Status. I hope your heads are not pounding too much after the celebrations and suggest turning the bass down just for a couple of hours. We do have a lot of plans for the coming year, starting with building a mezzanine floor in our workshop to give us more space. Anyone who has visited recently will have noticed the 'organised chaos' we are currently working in. Next year will be our 30th anniversary so watch this space for something a bit special.... and I believe a certain band we all know and love have a similar celebration this year. We will also be finding time to create a couple of new bass models and some interesting sidelines : all new merchandise, posters, calendars, artwork etc. I also plan to give our web site a big makeover and add more images and a big sound archive. Please get back to me with your wish-list or any comments. Big thanks again to Andre and the team for building the Statii forum into the force it is. A happy and healthy New Year to everyone. Rob, Dawn and all at Status Graphite.

Can some one explain the whole Musicman, Stingray, Sterling thing
OutToPlayJazz replied to dave_bass5's topic in Bass Guitars
Just to clarify Dave, the 2eq MM preamp is boost only. The 3eq is cut/boost. That's why the 2eq models always seem more powerful. I prefer to the 2eq's, to be honest. Much more rounded and richer sound. Rich. -
Be arsed to google .. It's hardly taxing
I love it! Si, you're the voice of common sense and I salute you, Sir!

I have a black/grey pearloid MM guard which may be of use to you. This one...

As I may have mentioned on the EBMM forum, congrats Ez. I had an identical one & it was a fantastic bass for the money. I only sold it when I purchased my piezo equipped Stingray. And the difference between the two definitely doesn't warrant the MusicMan being twice the price. Enjoy!

Nice Highway One you have there, Wayne. Loaded with nitro cellulose goodness, too! Always fancied one of these.
They had some great colours for MIMs around then... mine is a 2002 in Teal green metallic, looks blue and grey depending on the lighting...
That teal green is a lovely colour. Fantastic looking bass.
Okay my 2p's worth and I know people might question whether this is strictly a bass solo (as it's not played on a "standard" bass) but Stanley Clarke's School days pretty much changed my life musically - so I'll go for that.
I'd agree with you on that one. School Days is a staple one to learn as well.

I mentioned this one in the rig thread, but it's definitely worth another mention... Stunning 79 Ray, Shrigg!
Victor Wooten 'Palmystery' album, 3.19 into the track 'Victa'. Melodic perfection (and no double-thumbing!).
Another vote for the Victa here. My personal favourite is the track, "The Lesson" (no.4 from Palmystery), clearly giving us a lesson in line deveopment. Love the flamenco feel as well. 1. Pete, how many people are going to say this is unmusical & fret w***ing?! 2. We'll just give them 20p so they can go & ring someone who gives a ****!

Loving that fretless Wal sound. Almost makes me want one - But not quite...
Always happy to show off my 500w 20kg rig (and of course my 79 'Ray):
Very nice all round, especially the 79 Ray!

I was thinking that "RPG" was a pretty unfortunate name, as it usually means, "Rocket Propelled Grenade"!
Bloody hell Mr Perkins, never dreamed you where sutch a Bass Whore, Happy New Year ,from the Running Horse Monday night Jam Bass Player
Hi Richardd, Good to hear from you - Is the Runner reopened yet? Haven't been there for a good 3-4 years. -
My custom orders were both KingBasses. The first was a 5-stringer which was amazing, but I really wanted an S2 & the second was a 4-string. I just found I always preferred the sound and playability of the S2 more. So my 2nd KingBass Artist went to Texas, virtually unused and in mint condition. I got an even better Status bass with the proceeds, anyway I sold this... To get this...
@ OutToPlayJazz Hi there, I notice you've got quite a few Status basses listed in your sig and you praise them earlier in the tread. Out of interest, did you order all yours directly? Thanks, Bryan
Hi Brian, have a look at the post above yours... Mine are all either mint used ones or stock basses that I tried at the factory and made the decision there and then. Rich.
I for one DO have issues with Status basses - at least straight from the factory. I have owned 2 Statuses in the past - a 2nd hand 6 string Empathy which was great (just too many strings for me) and a custom order S1 Classic made by Rob and co. The latter had to be returned immediately (incredibly amount of fret buzz at the 12th fret) and a terrible setup overall. After it's return all I can is that is was an "ok" bass. It didn't sound anything special (through 2 EBS rigs and an Ampeg setup) and I've had basses costing way less than half the price which sound much better. The actual finish of the bass was very disappointing too. A review in Guitarist showed the most amazing quilted top and the finish on my Empathy was simply stunning. Not this one. Very dull finish - you had to really look for the quilitng. Overally I was very disppointed considering the money paid (as everyone knows, they're not cheap) and especially considering I'm no snob when it comes to gear (I'll happily play a cheap Yammie and have done so for years). The experience changed my buying outlook altogether and these days I would definitely want to actually play something before spending anything over about £400. BBass
Sorry to hear about your 'bad' experience with the Status brand, BBass. Oddly, I've never kept any of the basses Rob actually built for me. Mine are all either used ones or stock basses I played at the factory and made the decision there and then. I had two custom orders & ended up selling both. But QC and setups have always been perfect for me, though. Rich.
I wish id gone for your SR5 now! Hmm...think I might just need to start from scratch again.
Yes, my SR5 is a special one. The sound and playability is spot on with that one. Sounds more like a Status than a Ray with the ceramic pickup. At least it's going to a good home now. What are you going to go for this time? I keep thinking to myself, you need to get yourself down to Colchester to try a bolt on S2-Classic 5-string. Either that, or to my house! The bolt on would be at the upper limit of your price range, but you'd definitely never look back. Rich.

Yes indeedy & we all know that the preamp in the 2-band has more punch and "scoopedness" than the three. It'll be a five for me this year, unless something else comes up.
-
Sounds like the American Standard Jazz 5 to me. Lovely quality and will sound awesome through your tone hammer I vote for candy cola/maple, but that's just my personal taste! How did you get along with the DR's, btw?

Can't remember if I managed to put the rig and basses pics on here, so here goes...
