1. I've been using my no.1 Status S2-Classic for the last three weeks in panto in Sheffield (actually pronounced "Siberia"!) and even in severe sub zero temperatures (I make sure I take it home every night) there's been no movement in the tuning at all, even according to my Korg Pitch Black tuner. The headless necks really are wonderful to play on with zero neck dive and excellent balance, whether sitting or on a strap. There's also zero pressure on the left wrist, so you can concentrate on fingering rather than supporting the weight of a head. What's not to like?
2. Luckily this sort of thing doesn't affect graphite instruments until you get down past minus 40 degrees or so.
3. Very nice, mate. But... You play with a pick?? GET OUT!!! :snob:
4.
Love that!! Great stuff. As others have said, his voice is sounding better than ever. BTW, what is that bass he's thumbing? Looks like a Status - is it some kind of "signature" model? OK, off to listen to The Pursuit of Accidents now!! ^_^
He's playing a Status-Graphite KingBass Mk-I in the video. These days he mainly plays the larger, headed Mk-II model. Lovely basses. But then I would say that, wouldn't I?
5. Looks like a new style American Standard. Yes, if you can grab that for under 500 you'll have yourself a bargain there.
6.
I'd be happy paying the asking price for that bass, even if it is top whack. I don't know what it is with Stingrays, the prices seem to go up and down like Jordan's knickers. When I was selling my 4 stringers I couldn't give them away, I ended up selling one for not much more than £600, which was below value in my opinion. A bass is only worth what someone will pay at the end of the day, and me, I'd pay the asking price for this one if I had the cash.
I know what you mean. I got both of mine in the middle ground - £750 for the piezo 4-stringer & £800 for the 5-stringer. But the same as you, I've seen some go for silly prices as low as £500 in recent times.
7. If you look at Heather's other videos, they all build up to this one... I thought it was great of him to spend the time doing the track in his studio and making the video. As always, Mark's a great guy
8. Apart from woods, it's triplets in the case of my Status S2's & twins in the case of my Stingrays...
9. Another +1 for the Korg pitch black. Excellent piece of design and very accurate, too.
10. This has grown into a nice thread Apart from the basses in my consciousness that I'd like or I'm interested in, the true bass of the moment for me is [as I suppose it has been since 1990] a Status S2. I'm playing my walnut one every day in the theatre at the moment & it's proving to be the perfect bass for the job. Superior growl & that extra sparkle that others seem to lack. Here it is in the pit with it's 5-string brethren...
11. Congrats, PAL1972. Is that two Status basses you have now?
12. He also appeared a couple of weeks ago on the Children in Need concert at the Albert Hall. Both he and Annie Lennox stole the show. He's still a great performer but more of a national institution nowadays. I didn't see the show, as I was deeply ensconced in a theatre pit with my inner ear monitors on, listening (in between playing) to the likes of... Prince Charming "Inform the Queen that I will await her presence at my camp." Nurse Nellie "I didn't know he was camp." Prince Charming "I'm not. I just walk with a slightly effeminate manner!"
13. I'm picking up a Little Giant 1000 next week. I played through one the other day and I was mightily impressed by the sound of it & the prices they're on offer for at the moment are just silly.
14. Funny how the Squier CV Jazz keeps rearing it's cheap little head, isn't it? These lovely Jazzes really are just about the best product in the Fender lineup at the moment. Phenomenal value for money & awesome sound. As I said in another post, with the Chinese quality being this good, the Mexican plant may as well down tools!
15. There are those on this very forum who have seen and played my basses & I'm sure they will all attest to the fact that I keep all of my basses in pristine condition. I use them all a lot professionally and work them very hard, but I hate chips, dents & scratches with a vengance. I suppose that after spending so many thousands on equipment, I really do make sure I look after it. Although, the one thing I am looking forward to is looking at my Fender Jazz in twenty years' time and seeing all the wear I've put on it personally. Honest gigging wear and tear, not factory made facsimilies!
16. Yes, I've looked at the BFR instruments a few times. They're lovely looking things, but I do baulk at the £2.5k price tags. I'd love a stripy rootbeer Stingray HH, though!
17. £399 is a great price at the moment. Full RRP is something like £629 on these now.
18.
My other half drew a line under it though, "Andy, you really look after your instruments, why do you want one that looks like it's been run over by a truck?" So that pissed on my chips...
Well said, that woman! Yes, these have really divided opinion. Some people (including my brother, St.Nicholas) have said that they are amazing basses & others like myself like them, but baulk at the price tag and don't get the relic job. Whatever your take on these basses, as Nick says, try before you buy and if you really love the bass, then get one. End of. I will say one thing, though... The Fender marketing department has got a lot of us hook line and sinker with this series. Cunning little b******s!
19. For studio work, I have a pair of Sony studio monitor headphones. They're great for the price (£12 from Tescos, but a little muffly for bass frequencies. I've just bought a set of £50 Seinhauser inner ear ones for my iPod and they're amazing. The clarity is untrue. Going to try them in the panto this evening...
20. Excellent, mate! Sorted Yes, I loved the sound of that Nash when I saw the YT video of it a couple of months ago. That's a serious sounding Jazz bass & quite possibly the best I've heard. Congrats again, mate!
21.
nice basses, should try overtime to upgrade your squiers to fenders =]
Those Classic Vibe Jazzes are as good if not better than most Fenders, I'll have you know!
22. Most electric basses will do a fairly good facsimilie of an upright if you play over the end of the fingerboard, but my personal recommendation would be a Stingray with the piezo bridge. Very convincing & adaptable, too. It's like having two basses in one.
23. I don't usually like that sort of thing, but it's so tastefully done that it's seriously cool. Well done!
24. As I think I said before, that's a stunning looking instrument and as BB above mentioned, I'm glad it now sounds how you really want it to Rich.
