1. At the end of the day I think it's down to what fits you and what sounds good to you. For the price of an MIM Deluxe Fender I'd be looking seriously at a G&L Tribute L2000 or something like that.
2. Thanks Peter, not only for the warm welcome, but also for the aforementioned tea & letting me play your lovely collection - And for showing me a Precision I actually love the sound of! Not to mention the almost unused G&L. Cheers mate & speak soon. VBR, Rich.
3. Just give it time. As others have said, the market is pretty flat at the moment. People are being very cautious with their money, but those Korean Jazz 24's are excellent instruments and I've never heard a bad thing about them. As for Skoda syndrome, my two Skodas (a Superb and an Octavia) were vastly better cars than my current VW
4. I've actually tracked my original one down again, but the owner doesn't want to sell at the moment. Maybe I'll get it back here one day for a full Status refinish...
5. Not at all. I had to do that with the Blondie UK band due to being phenomenally busy with work at the time. Luckily, I was transcribing basslines in about five minutes flat, so they were more astounded and amazed than anything else. But I definitely see your point. If it's an amateur band and this takes a lot of valuable rehearsal time, then it's definitely not on, Peter.
6. I had a MAG 300 Evo II 15" combo and a 2x10 cab for the tribute act I was with for a while. It sounded phenomenal! If I need a big rig again, I'll certainly think about going back to Ashdown MAG stuff. Only minus side is the weight after the lightweight MarkBass stuff I had for the last couple of years.
7. Willows Guitars' "Spunky Bass" gets my vote.
8. Or perhaps I meant brown tort? Like mine...
9. In general terms, the only thing to avoid is basses with the neck pickup right against the end of the neck, like violin basses & SG-style basses. All you'll get is a bang from the front pickup! Apart from that, pretty much everything else is slappable.
10. Great opportunity here for someone to save up to 600 of your Earth Pounds!
11.
Get a good luthier to replace the screw and wait until the guitarist turns around on a small stage and clatters the bass!!
If a guitarist did that to one of my instruments, he'd be pulling shards of his own teeth out of his arse for a month!
12. As I said to you in person a while ago, very similar to my original SII. And a lovely example. Congrats on getting your baby back, Brother Smithe
13.
Yup, got a Sadowsky RV4 and the GB sits in its case! anyone with £1600 can have her I think!
*Starts thinking of what to sell first...* Neil, your Precision looks really nice. I've heard nothing but good reports about the new MIM's with the maple boards. Now with a red tort guard it'd look the 'whole dog'! Rich.
14. Just charge the lucky winner another £125 for personal delivery, Martin!
15. Is that one of the new MIM's with mods, or lots of bits compiled into one great bass?
16.
In theory good idea OTPJ but puts all the risk on Chris - after all I had not one single offer despite knocking £200 off the new price
There is that - Also, the new 3TS sunburst is lovely looking. I could sit and look at mine for hours if I wasn't playing it so much!
17. Did either of you think of the obvious solution? Give Clarky his maple back and you sell the rosewood, Chris
18.
Looks evil.... you can see the wood through it though up close....
I have to say, having seen your lovely black T-Bird Pro & having seen the price on the Anderton's site, I'm getting rather tempted myself! Rich.
19. A Hohner Jack Professional would seem to fit the bill. They crop up for sale quite regularly. I had one before I could afford a proper Status when I was at college.
20. All of my Status basses have arrived in A1 100% perfection. But you expect that. Every single bass goes through one man's hands for final build, setup and inspection. I think my Fender was pretty good when I got it, but it was about the 10th new American Standard I'd looked at. That's what you get with mass production though, no matter what the price.
21. Very very nice, Nick. Remember that even the lower end of the Status range is still a Status and has the same growl & uber-quality feel, etc. Excellent bass. Should last you a lifetime!
22. PM'd - Does Bernie always use EMG's in the Spitfires?
23. Dangerous words indeed! You're teetering on the edge of a Status addiction there! I started with them 20 years ago & now nothing else seems quite up to the mark. You have been warned... This looks like a really nice bass(es). Extremely rare, too. best of luck with the sale/trade.
24. I tend to use a combination of my Status S2 bolt on 5 with the phenowood board, or the Streamline with the Triumph upright. I think jazz style basses are well suited, but sometimes a bit too harsh and bright. I'll report on the jazz suitability of ACG basses for jazz gigs after this coming weekend Rich.
