1. Congrats on choosing a great bass, farmer61. Hope you enjoy it
2. To answer the original poster's question... I've had a few jazzes in my time as well & the best amongst them was the last of run American Standard S1 model. It still had the unfinished feeling neck but was an excellent bass. The new bass, is streets ahead of the S1 model, although I did like the tonal variation afforded by the S1 switch. The production changes are as follows... Thinner undercoat lacquer for improved tonal response and sustain High mass bridge Satin lacquered neck and gloss lacquered fingerboard (maple only) New 30% lighter tuners Doesn't sound a lot, but the difference between the two is huge. My S1 Jazz was a lovely bass, but I always felt that the necks on the S1 models felt unfinished and rough to the touch. The new ones are just lovely. Possibly the nicest wooden neck I've played. I use my 09 Am.Std. with a Sadowsky outboard preamp/di & the sound is just huge. Of course, the bass sounds great on it's own, but the Sadowsky pre is just the icing on the cake. I'm thoroughly pleased with mine! Rich.
3. I think they all hang out with Sleeve Bailey, don't they?
4. Magnificent build, James. Must've taken you a long time to source all of the genuine Fender bits! Rich.
5. And might I add, that's an awesome collection - All the ingredients are there - Status, Alembic, Pangborn, GB, etc... Rich.
6. As others have said, there are some great Fenders out there and some clunkers. And the person that mentioned Thomann was right on the ball. They offer a money back guarantee even if you don't like the instrument. Thomann orders usually arrive pretty quickly as well. I've used them a couple of times. Best of luck with it all! Rich.
7. Some really nice basses here, especially your Shuker P5 which I've admired before, but I've tried and tried and can't get on with the Precision sound. I've had three and thrown in the towel. Maybe the last ditch attempt will be either a Shuker or the new Fender P5. Who knows?
8. Nice collection, Nik. I keep thinking of a Roscoe myself - And that Wal... Well, if you ever... Nah! Rich.
9. Nice looking bass - I've always liked the look of Jaguars but never liked the stock electrronics.
10. Wonderful collection you have there, Matt. Especially the Unicorn, Smith & Mike Lull - Stunning looking instruments. Congrats
11. It's also because Gibson took over from the UK distributor the other year, so you can only get Epiphone & Gibson gear at a few authorised dealers in the UK these days. They're not selling through the smaller shops anymore.
12. Curiously GAS-free for the last few months, but how about...
13. This one looks like a lovely example. Someone snap it up! Perhaps the owner could also post an ad on Statii.com if he hasn't already... Rich.
14. Agreed, Machines... It looks like an MM3 with some serious modifications - Bigger EB bridge, EB black tort guard, etc. Looks like a nice thing, anyway.
15. Haha BassBus, I didn't know you'd already put those pics up, mate!
16. Hey daveski, is that BB prototype the one that came with the authenticating letter from MK?
17.
Actually it was outside! The pub has a covered patio area - fantastic place - the Angel Inn at Yarwell, near Wansford, Peterborough. However, I do wear sunglasses indoors too!
It just hurts more when he bumps into things... Nah mate, you want one of these...
18. I don't know how many of you follow Statii.com, but our friend Todd from Canada recently took delivery of the first KingBass Mk-II headless model. Rob built it as a between jobs labour of love, so it took a very long time, but the results are utterly stunning...
19.
I do prefer the Mark 1s roundy edges I must admit ( and it would need to have chrome hardware)but I am also taken by the Graphite T from yon french chappie in the for sale section........decisions, decisions!!! BB
Yes, the new T-bass is a really nice instrument as well. I played the first of the new production models at the factory & they really are a stunning bass, but the body is uber-huge. Think KingBass Mk-II & you're on the right lines! Mart, if you look, the original Streamline like yours and mine all have a nice countoured curve between the top/back & the sides. The new ones have been almost "squared off" in certain areas. Basically less organic and flowing. Rich. Old curvy Streamline... (My bass) New harder edged model...
20. I've played a couple of these at the factory & they really are amazing - Great feel and huge sound! Best of luck with the sale
21. Gentlemen, rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. I thought I was dead, but it turns out I was in Belgium... Golchen, sorry you have to part with this one - But I'm sure it'll find a good home Rich. Speculative pm sent...
22. Hey Mart Nah, I don't like the new "hard edged" model. Sticking with what I've got for the time being...
23. Yo Brother Smithe! Yes, indeed - It's the one I'd be most interested in putting an order for. BB - Don't be put off ordering your Streamline. They're a fantastic bass & I definitely wouldn't be without mine! I use mine all the time these days
24. Gentlemen, perhaps we ought to let this guy sell his lovely restored by the factory bass & move this love/hate subject to another place? I suggest the "Get your Status-Graphite basses out!" thread in the gear porn section... Best of luck with the sale Rich.
25. Well there has been mention (from Dawn) that there's to be an S2000 reissue towards the end of this year...
