1. I've also always been very disappointed by Jaguars. Nothing to commend them, really. Just a bit different to look at, with a sound that doesn't really impress. Get a jazz of some shape/description/pricerange that feels good & treat yourself to a Sadowsky outboard preamp. Job done.
2. A couple of extra shots of the new 5-string models have appeared on the official Status website, principally the Streamline & KingBass Mk-II. There appear to be two 5-stringers for sale on stock as well... Here are the two new stock KingBass Mk-II's...
3. Lovely looking jazz there - Did you build it yourself? Now a fretless T-Bass 5 sounds great. I think there may be one or two fretless 5 S2-Classics at Status at the moment, but don't quote me on it. The stock basses move out of there so fast that the stock pages on the website haven't a chance of keeping up usually.
4. The 'New World' map made me smile Steve, safe journey & hope you find what you're looking for out there, mate. VBR, Rich.
5. Active every time for me - I love the fact that an active will (almost) always sound sweeter due to the fact that you only use half the gain (or input volume.) Active basses always sound smoother to me as well.
6. Basically if you pick a good one, they've all got the potential to be good instruments. Some of the more recent MIM's I've played have played and sounded fantastic. The CIJ models have lovely fit & finish with glossed necks, usually. Just a case of trying as many as you can & deciding what you're happiest with One example, though... I was in a shop the other week & I played the classic 50's Precision (black with the anodised gold guard), but a much cheaper Squier Classic Vibe Jazz blew it out of the water for sound, output, playability, quality, etc. Don't forget the cheaper cousins. You may be very pleasantly surprised. In fact, there's a sonic blue 60's Precision on the for sale pages at the moment. £200. Can't go wrong!
7. Lovely growing collection you have there I know what you mean about Mart's Ray 5. When we were in talks about him buying the Streamline from me, I was seriously thinking of taking the Ray 5 as a trade-in, as it looked so nice. Oh wow! Just noticed your Lakland has Norstrand Big Singles! Bet that sounds serious Congrats, mate!
8. Poles? Depends on if there's a little bit of 'rung left here & there. Then they'd be slilts!
9. Isn't that Barrie's (molan's) old one?
10. There's a thread about one aspect of this on Statii.com at the moment. Nathan King (guitarist from Level 42 & brother of Mark) is playing bass for them at the moment on tour.
11. Hmmm... I think I'm starting to see the point... I put on some bids this week at an auction house for some bits and bobs from a Music Shop liquidation sale. I didn't win any of them, apart from an ex-demo (attached to a big display plinth) Line 6 Bass Pod XT live. I only paid a fraction of the new price for it, so I thought what the hell? I'll give it another go... I've just spent about an hour and a half playing with the sounds & amp modelling and my findings are... If I need a dub bass sound or a more classic sound for recording, it's a great tool. The synth sounds are atrocious, but that's just my personal tastes kicking in But after a good long play, I found that using my jazz passively with the Line 6 is useful, but an active bass like my Status basses doesn't gain anything. I switched the Line 6 off & plugged one of my S2's directly into the basscube. Ahhhh that's better. So all in all, for the comparitively cheap price, it'll be useful for recording jobs, but live I'll continue with either a Status direct into the amp or my Jazz through my Sadowsky preamp. Rich.
12. Quite expensive enough for my tastes, mate. All you need now is a nice Status to go with that pair
13. So all in all, we know a lot of these formerly prestige London establishments are suffering the same fate as so many music shops the world over since the advent of internet selling from warehouses. Just curious here, but what did the OP end up ordering?
14. Okay, so as I was saying earlier, the Status S2-Classics are just a feeler and that being said, I'm coming to my senses & withdrawing them. Pictures will disappear in a few moments...
15. Hmmm... I see a theme forming here, Wayne Very individual.
16.
I think a brilliant example of budget basses doing a pro job is the RickenFakers thread in the Ebay links section of this forum. Alot of them are very very good quality, and i've heard alot of reports of them being just as good as the real thing. I must get my hands on one some time!
Yes, the Tokai "Rockinsbetter" is excellent - Highly recommended!
17.
Blimey...You ok Rich?

OTPJ you need a sit down! this is like me parting with my Spitfire!

Rich, that S2 is absolutely beautiful - are you really sure you want to part with that!!!
Well I am overrun with basses at the moment, but as I said at the top of the thread, the S2's are mainly in feeler-ville at the moment, but who knows?!
18.
Man they look beautiful, all of them. Do you actually play these?? Look like brand spanking from the factory!!! Whatever you've been drinking, put it down and cancel this thread when you sober up mate, you can't part with these when i have no spare folding Andy
Hi Andy, yes they do get played a lot. I'm a professional player myself. I just take care of them. That & the Status finishes are built to last. I recently sold a 20 year old Status SII which still looked pretty well new.
19.
Thanks for that. Couple more questions if you've got a mo: Is there any passive tone control with the actives off? Is the neck satin or gloss? What's the string spacing at the bridge? I never knew what the deal was with the pickup - why three coils? Sorry I have tried Googling but there's little to no info about these basses!
Not a problem - The Groove specs used to be on the Status "oldsite" but that was finally removed from the web in the last few months. In answer to your questons... The neck is a subtle gloss - Looks shiny, but feels satin?? Perhaps a mix like Alan at ACG does. String spacing is standard 18mm at the bridge. I think the trimax pickup was designed with a dummy, hum-cancelling coil in the middle, the same as the new graphite-necked T-bass. Don't quote me on this, as I'm sure there are other people more clued up on the Groove bass than I am. Merton, for instance
20. Kevin?? Steve?? Yep, the Streamline is THAT good
21.
There's something very cool about those Groove basses. I've never tried one though - what are the necks like? Also: Is it active or passive, and what do the knobs do? Ta.
The groove neck is thin and flat, like a less curved jazz neck. Great to play The bass is 2-band active, with treble & bass bosst & an active/passive switch.
22. Thanks for everyone's interest in this thread. All three basses are now sold Status S2-Classics now withdrawn, unless someone was going to offer me a million quid for the two For if anyone's looking at this thread for the first time in a confused fashion, I put two of my Status S2's up as a sale feeler, but they've now been removed Update: Status Groove 5 now sold to a 'lady of distinction'... Update #2: Yamaha TRB now sold. Update #3: OLP now sold. **SOLD**Yamaha TRB-6 II**SOLD** - Awesome condition for the age. This is a fantastic sounding bass & a great introduction to 6-string playing with it's relatively thin neck combined with 18mm string spacing at the bridge. £500 **SOLD**Status Groove 5-string in wine red**SOLD** Lovely sounding bass in stunning condition for year. Recently setup with new strings & comes complete with Status branded Hiscox case. £350 **SOLD**OLP MM22 'HH' Stingray copy**SOLD** - Either you believe Sterling Ball's version that the OLP quality came too much too late, or you'll believe that this bass scared the hell out of Ernie Ball! Whichever way, here's a lovely MM22 for £200. Not really looking for trades, but hit me with what you've got. Worst I can do is reply in the negative
23. Just sold my Octavia 2.0TDi as it was suffering from starship mileage & we had a Touran-style VW Caddy van sitting on the drive in mint condition with only 35k on it. I have become white van man! Best thing we had for gigs was a new-style Fiat Panda diesel. That swallowed all my bass gear with ease & still did 65mpg. Thinking of getting another one! Rich.
24. Take a look at this. Can't seem to get to the bottom of why he plays like this...
