I seem to remember there was some kind of legailty & they only ship used ones now. Correct me if I'm wrong, by all means

That happens in a lot of places - You get to play a hardly inexpensive bass through 99p worth of amplifier. Doesn't do the bass justice at all! So you're going for the white/maple one then, MM20?

According to "The Fender Bass - an illustrated history", in late 1964, clay face dot markers on the fingerboard are replaced by faux pearl dots. White three-ply vinyl pickguards relplace the problematic nitro material. The Precision bass gets a new block transition style decal. Pickup bobbins change from black to grey-green. The enamel wire on the pickup bobbin changes from a dark brown to a lighter orange enamel. To flush mount the tuning gears, divots are drilled into the back of the headstock. The block or transition logo started in 1964 and was used until the late 1960's. The groups of patent numbers under the logo increased from 4 to 5 by the end of 1964. The only pics I can find of 60's Precisions in Fiesta Red all seem to have red tort guards, btw. Serial numbers for the period are... Neck plate location 89000-99999... 1963 "L" series neck plate L00000-L30000... 1963 L15000-L70000... 1964 L50000-L99999... 1965 "F" series neck plate 100000-130000... 1965

You can try Modulus and Fodera at the Gallery in London. Alex usually has a good stock in. Apart from that you want a list of luthiers to contact... Try some of the following... www.status-graphite.com www.jaydeeguitars.com www.seibass.com www.acguitars.co.uk www.shukerguitars.co.uk
And im getting a new bass! But the problem is I dont know what I want. I know it needs to have 24 frets because of some of the songs that I do and its going to be a 4 string, apart from that im stuck and could do with a bit of advice. My style is influenced by people like Chris Wood, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Ament, Matt Garrison, Ben Kenney, Carl Young etc I play a very wide range of styles and so its got to be able to fit them. I know that some of these players have used Modulus and Fodera basses but being in the UK there is no way I know of to try some of theses makes so have anyone got any advice about where to try these? I play a Warwick atm and its alright but im wanting something else and I know its not going to be a Fender. I also dont want a bass that looks like it should be in an art gallery, its a workhorse to me. Any thoughts on any basses to look at? MH
What price range are we talking here?

I've just got to the same point - I've left one outfit with £6k of work in the book & left my long time rock trio because I really want to do something different & more musically challenging... Obviously I have my jazz work, shows & classical playing/conducting, but I really want to push the boundaries a little. A little Flecktones, anyone?

It may be worth having a trawl around the stores and a phone around, as the Korean made Fender jazz 24 has now been deleted. You may get a bargain somewhere! The other option is John Shuker. If memory serves, his jazzes start at around £800 & I'm sure he could do one with a 24 fret neck. Haha! Just looked at the discontinued products on the Dawson's Music page... Look at the price http://www.dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/info_00070739.html

Hey, remember we're all only a stone's throw from Electro Music in Doncaster, one of the best in the country. Go there and ask for Dave Ryan. He'll sort you out

Both very highly thought of bridges. Well made, increased sustain, etc. The thnig to consider is this - Which kind of jazz bass do you have? If you have an MIM or a Japanese model, you'll find a lot of advantage in these bridges. The increased sustain and stability are definitely useful. If you have an American jazz with the through body stringing (BadAss III in this case) they won't make a lot of difference as the string is only making contact with a very small area of bridge when being pulled through the body.

These really are great sounding basses & the sound is highly adaptable, too. Congrats, Peter

If you're planning to visit Jon's workshop, I'm only about an hour east from there. You're welcome to come and try mine if you're in the area. I only finally plumped for the Fender over the Sadowsky in the end because the new style Fender has all the things I wanted, like glossed fingerboard & through-body stringing. I also already have an outboard Sadowsky preamp. The other thing I'd be thinking about is that you're comparing a mass produced bass to a custom hand made boutique bass. Rich.

Very clear bass sound, Oscar - Very snappy sounding, too. Were you using a pick or something?
-
I've not actually used it as a di, but I'd imagine it's fine I always DI through the MarkBass rig on bigger jobs. If it's an average venue, I usually just use the rig. Plenty of power.

Here's Ed with a sneak preview....

Yes, these are the replacement to the OLP's. They're called "Sterling - by MusicMan" Whereas OLP's ranged from £200-£340 or so, the new Sterling range starts at over £600!!! Eye watering!
-
Everything's gone up with the exchange rate collapse - I paid £23 for DR fatbeams 40-100 last year. Now they're £30. I like the strings, so I just go on paying. Luckily it's just for one bass. The rest of mine are on Status Hotwires 30-90 or 30-115. Even Hotwires have increased in price this year.

If your MIM classic 70's jazz is mint, I'd start around 350. Sounds reasonable to me Someone's sure to snare it at that.

Active circuit.....anyoine make them??
OutToPlayJazz replied to Wayne Firefly's topic in Repairs and Technical
The circuit on the Status T-Bass works like that, same as the layout on most of the Spector basses as well. -
That is a very nice Stingray - from a period that arguably beats many of the pre-EB Rays a lot of bassists rave about. It's on the lighter side for a Ray too which is also a positive. If I didn't already have one I would buy this without hesitation. Good price - do not be convinced to sell for less!
+1 Mart - This bass is stunning for the year & should be sold already!

Kingbass trade for.........Kingbass?

Yeah, should be fine - Is this on a wooden neck? The bendwell design on the Status basses is graphite of course, so the wood in that portion will have to be strengthened, as it's a very thin part of the neck.

Correction on my last post on this thread... Electro Music in Doncaster now have two new Gibson T-Birds in @ £999.
-
That'll be left over stock from last year, probably. I paid £840 for a sunburst Am.Std. Precision last June. The newer stuff will be significantly higher, I'd imagine.
