  1. Picked up an as-new Status-branded Hiscox case from Marcus today at his uni digs. Lovely guy & very helpful too. Recommended! Rich.
  2. Welcome to the forum, bythesea Interesting claim to fame - I was at an after show 'do with Mr.King a few weeks back. Lovely man.
  3. No suitcases or other sensible baggage - Just make sure your carrier bag contains two T-shirts & one sock. Why?? Well, you always lose one!
  4. Very impressive, but tell me - Which button opens the missile silos?
  5. One thing you should try, Chris... I know it's not custom or boutique, but I just picked up a Yamaha Billy Sheehan signature BB714BS. Wow! The quality is out of this world & the sound is like a Precision bass that's been on a Stella Bender for the last 48 hours! The addition of the mudbucker pickup gives the P concept a whole new voice. Sounds huge
  6. As with all things of a musical nature, the mass produced stuff will follow the herd, but the custom stuff will always be more adventurous. I don't see guitarists being particularly adventurous - It's usually Strat, Tele or Les Paul. Status Streamlines are catching on in a big way this year...
  7. Not sure, really - It just had the right feel and an excellent scooped-style sound, which I like. Also felt like a real quality item in the hands.
  8. Electro have a brand new Thunderbird in stock for £999 & it's stunning to play. Before I'd played this one, I'd only ever played the Epiphones. The Epiphones are great basses for the money, but this Gibson one is something else...
  9. Very nice - The EUB is becoming a lot more accepted these days. Everywhere I go people comment on how fantastic my Warwick Triumph sounds. Really like the finish on your NS
  10. I'm played a few new Sandbergs & my findings were generally that the standard California models were okay, but the ones that stood out were the Panther Ltd 5. That one has a truly lovely & massive sound & is great to play. The other one was a California PM supreme model. I don't know the difference between the standard and the supreme, but this one was utterly biblical. I was almost tempted to trade my bolt on Status 5 for it. But I decided against it in the end.
  11. Hi Chris, how about a Shuker P?
  12. Lovely looking Ray, Matthew. Personally, I think the clear guard looks seriously cool.
  13. A few of you may remember me harping on about a visit to Electro a while ago where a 'mere' OLP Ray copy in metallic silvery green with HH pickups and active pre blew me away & was by far the best bass in the shop. Well, I've managed to snare that very bass for considerably less than Squier money. I first played it when it was brand new, then it was loaned out to at least one person who had a bass in for repair/service. I found it again today at Electro leaned up against a wall with it's strap retainers missing & looking a little sorry for itself. So I made Dave an offer & took it away, restrung it, cleaned it, set it up & it's still just as awesome as I remember. I've played a lot of Rays over the years and none has ever blown me away like this one - It plays like a demon, sounds fantastic & I even have to back off the bass on the preamp as it's so powerful. Obviously the 9v preamp isn't going to be as balanced as my 18v ones, but it's a really great bass. If you get the chance to try an MM22, go for it. It's a real pity they don't make these any more! Rich. Edit: I've now found out the colour is called "graphite pearl."
  14. Nice room, Wayne Where's the trombone hiding?
  15. "Nearly Status"? Looks fine to me, Graham And it even says "Status" on it... Excellent buy, mate!
  16. A couple of extra shots I took yesterday... D4Dve lives a couple of miles up the road from me & I've had his newly acquired S2 5-string in for restringing & setup amongst a few other bits. He's picking it up today, but here it is in the flesh, as it were
  17. Call Dawn at Status on 01206 868150 to be sure. I'm not going to confirm either way, but I suspect all the 'wooden' boards are phenowood. Don't quote me on it! Rich.
  18. Nice bass, Oscar! - Best of luck with the sale Rich.
  19. I don't know the exact cost of a phenowood fingerboard, but I know it's not a cheap option! I'd say around £2-300. I know Rob's run out of the phenowood for the time being and is looking for another supplier. Would you believe that it's not wood at all? It looks and feels like wood, but is in fact a curious mix of the graphite binding resin & paper!
  20. So we have audience acceptance, if not glowing praise of both sound & looks, Mart - More importantly though, how did your back/neck like the experience, mate? Btw, I might come over for your jam session next week for a bit of a blast while I'm off work for a couple of weeks Rich.
  21. Bit of an outside photo session this afternoon, so some more shots for the gallery - With the digital SLR this time!
