1. Simple answer to a simple question, Peter... Yes. Most shops won't let these out of the door for less than about £500. I tried last summer at a place in Hull! Rich.
2. Nice one, Steve - Never suspected a thing, either! *Duh*
3. I just tend to walk away - I've just left one outfit and turned down £6k worth of work this year because I'm not prepared to compromise musicality for what promoters think Joe Public may or may not want. (Oh, and an asshole of a moody keyboard player!) Not a problem - One hour after I quit, I got a big theatre job for some serious money. Nay problemo There's always more work or other bands around the corner...
4. Fair comment, Marcus - I think a lot of it also depends on our hearing. Obviously we all hear different frequencies better & for me a Precision gets buried in the mix, whereas my Status basses always cut through.
5.
I'll never get why Precisions are so popular. In my humble opinion, they sound terrible, feel terrible to play, are too heavy and look horrendous. But fashion and I really do not get on well together...
Agreed. I've had three Precisions and have never yet found one I fully liked the sound of. The 08 American Standard was the closest. Typically, I traded it for another Status, LOL! Rich.
6.
In fact I played a gig recently with my, pretty expensive USA MTD 535, and had the one person in the audience who was a bass player told me that I could get a decent MIJ Jazz bass instead as I obviously couldn't afford an American Fender.

I said that the MTD was quite a nice bass & that he should look out for one to give a try & casually let slip that the USA ones like mine were about £3K new but if he shopped around he might find one for about £2,250 on the used market. His jaw dropped and he quietly slid into the background. . . Bit crass of me really but I couldn't resist
Nice one, Barrie
7. I've earned a fortune out of playing elevator music
8. That's right, let's all knock what we haven't tried, don't understand, or worse still can't afford. The detractors here quite simply have way too much time on their hands.
9.
It could be worse. We could have just released a green bass with a bright orange scratchplate. ;-) Stu
Quote of the year! I like BGM a lot & look forward to the improvements. As for the moaners - You all have way too much time on your hands!
10. As a musician, the quality of what I do is paramount. I think I'll join Rich in the museum
11. Seriously nice bass, Dood These last few basses to come out of Jon's workshop have all been simply stunning! Rich.
12.
I'm picking the glasses up next week.....
Actually, now you come to mention it, when the statii crew all met up at the O2 arena a few weeks ago, the proportion of us that were bald with glasses was quite alarming, LOL!
13. Vintage style instruments are indeed more popular and of course, more accessible. But I'm not really getting this 'fashion' thing people keep mentioning. Have a look at my avatar. I'm a musician. Not some kind of fashion icon, LOL!
14. Thankfully of course fashion is not indicative of quality, sound or playability.
15. I played one of these when they were the then current special edition - Awesome bass!
16. Maybe France has slid into hyper-inflation? Bloody credit crunch!
17. I think that more than anything people are feeling the pinch. There're a lot of high end basses around for sale at the moment. I only sold two in the last couple of weeks as I wasn't playing one of them & I've bought a more recent, optioned up duplicate of another. Quality like that never goes out of fashion The other thing is that for many, the headed versions are less desirable. Yes, some prefer the headed basses, but for most Status means graphite and headless. Just witness how fast my headless ones have sold! Rich.
18. Hmmm... Try resting your thumb instead of your wrist. Ouch!
19. I don't think the Moo paid that for his StarChild and that's brand new - He had to wait 18 months for it as well
20. Sounds really nice - There'll be people queuing up for that one on here - Get some pics up asap and best of luck with the sale mate Btw, judging by the serial and comparing it to some on the Status basses register, it looks like manufacture was around October 2003. Definitely an S2-Classic.
21.
It's a Status, it's got 5 strings and it's mint ... there will be a hoard of BC'ers dribbling onto their keyboards in anticipation And Rich, you can bugger orf... you can't have all of em for gods sake
LOL Glynn, that's a bit rude No, I'm not planning on buying another 5-string S2, I was just trying to clarify what it was, out of pure interest.
22. Thanks for that, Pete. Looking at the serial, it's not late 80's. More like late 90's to early noughties. If it has the 3-band preamp (the three small controls under the larger volume and panpot) it's definitely much newer Is it a headed or headless one? Rich.
23. 16.5mm spacing - Mark King would likey
24. Pete, can you tell us what the serial number is (on the top of the brass string retainer at the top of the neck) please? Rich.
