1. Ooh, honey violin - That'd match my Triumph upright!
2. Nice one, Pete! If I didn't already have my Triumph upright I'd have snapped this one up! Rich.
3. I only usually suffer with a mild annoyance between the shoulder blades, due to too many years of long concerts with the arms forwards as either a cellist or double bass player. If you've ever done the 3-4 hour stints of the Messiah or Elijah you'll know exactly what I mean. I can report that the Streamline is a bass you can play for hours. I'm loving mine!
4. Actually, thinking about it, this is priced to compete with not only your Fender Mex Standards, but also the Yamaha BB714BS Billy Sheehan signature. That would be an interesting comparison. I've just agreed to buy a 714, so we'll see which fairs best!
5. Lovely looking bass, but I do wish the Americans would learn to spell! "Honored"??
6. Yes, I saw that one, too. Nice looking Electro 3 with the soapbar at the bridge end. It's been moved on the new one closer to the fingerboard. Seriously good price, anyway.
7. Wow, has the UK pound slumped that far??
8. Both of my $$ 4-stringers have been 19mm. What's the spacing at the bridge? I'd have thought it would have been the usual 18mm the 5er.
9. C'mon guys - This is an absolute steal at this money! All the bass you'll ever need
10. Nice to see it being played in the original cello key. Most of the double bass versions are transposed into C for suite I.
11.
Good player but not really my cup of tea. Fretting wrist angle though? :-/
That's the proper angle the wrist should be. Leaves the wrist tendons relaxed and improves speed, agility & hand span. The thumb should never hook over the leading edge of the neck for this very reason.
12. I've got her album & that's stunning as well. As they say, Tal's the future of bass. Check out her solo with Jeff Beck. She took the Crossroads festival by storm.
13. I've had a few of each & would say that the jazz always wins in my opinion. The jazz is always so much more playable and adaptable. When I try and play a precision it always seems to get buried in the mix. Only the one sound as well. The USA jazzes with the through body stringing are the best sounding jazz basses around at the price, btw. Awesome.
14. Some people boil. Boiling only seems to have a limited effect. The bottle of meths with a few drops of washing up liquid method is quite good, too. I actually met a guy who bakes his in the oven a while back. Seems to have the desired effect as well. I just buy new ones, though. Much easier at the end of the day.
15. Hmmm... As others have said, it's far too expensive for the target audience, but it will of course initially sell in droves because it has Flea's name on it. Bag an ebay bargain in a month or two. They'll be struggling to get £200 for them!
16. Set them up right & the proper Gibson T-Bird can be a storming bass - Lovely sound/feel/playability. But the Corvette $$ is such a storming bass for the money! The Warwick is so adaptable, the neck is so fast & the sound is biblical. I've had two & I'm sure they won't be the last, either. $$ all the way!
17. Well, as far as I can tell, this bass is now sold! Thanks for all the interest, guys. Rich.
18. Just a bit - It's got that Larry Graham vibe to it!
19.
Are the neck profiles on Statuseses identical (for a given number of strings, anyway)? And how similar is the 5-string neck profile to the Hohner Jack (if anyone should happen to have tried both)?
The early graphite basses have an almost oblong profile to the neck. Very comfortable as well. The current S2 necks are a little more curved but still have some of that same original oblongoid feel. The KingBass necks are more rounded, but posessing a shallower curve than you'll be used to with the Jack. 5-string Status necks tend to possess a fuller feeling curve. All in all, they're very nice, basically. Hope that helps, that is if it makes any sense at all! Rich.
20. Hey Martin, yes it has a purpose made Ritter gigbag. They all come with those. The bass actually fits into the hiscox lifelite cases really well, though. Couple of foam inserts and you'd be there.
21.
I always put it down to "worn-in" wooden necks feeling more human, but that's probably a load of fetid dingo's kidneys.
To each his own...
