1. I played the top of range Sandberg California with the P/MM configuration a few weeks ago. It was an immense sounding bass. Much fuller than the j/mm variants. Highly recommended configuration
2. Fretless?? Nah, I have double basses for that job!
3. I'm buying another Streamline (with LED's) so I can't really see the point in having two identical basses around... I bought this from Vern a couple of months ago & it's a revelation - The sound is astounding & the balance/playability is superb. I think this is one of the early 2008 models, maybe the 6th made if the serial number is anything to go by. Condition is excellent with no chips or serious scratches & the bass is currently strung with 30-90 hotwires. If you're not familiar with the Streamline model, just think on the terms of "little bass, big attitude!" I'll be looking for £1000 for this amazing instrument, although interesting trade offers will be considered as well Apologies for the re-use of Vern's pics
4. I'm sure someone else has left-handed Status basses on either this server or Statii.com. I can't remember for the life of me who it is, though.
5. Steve Soar has recently bought a lefty Status...
6. I forgot to mention that the new starting price these days is about £1350 for either a bolt on S2 Classic (headless or headed) or the single piece moulded graphite Streamline bass. Both highly recommended.
7. I was in the same position as you. I was a poor student and bought the Hohner Jack because I couldn't afford a proper Status. Then when I was 20 I took out a 3 year loan to buy my first Series II. Now I'm nearly 40 and still haven't looked back. Moving from the Jack to an S2, think in terms of crystal clear piano like tones and a feeling of quality and playability that you don't get anywhere else. I've had lots of other basses but for me nothing cuts it like an S2. As John mentioned, give the factory a call if you want to try a bass or two, or you're more than welcome to visit me, just on the south side of the Humber Bridge. Rich.
8. I don't worry about labels at all, and as most know of me, I do like to support the smaller luthiers. At the end of the day you have to play what you like to play & I like Status. Nothing else does the job like them, whether it be my £260 Groove 5 or a £2000 S2-Classic. The other thing you have to remember is that the smaller outfits will generally take better care of their clients. I'm in the design phase of a bass with Alan from ACG at the moment & the sheer amount of time he has spent talking to me, taking pics and sourcing woods for me is astounding. The guy hasn't even seen a penny from me yet, either. At the end of the day, I don't mind waiting a year for a bass to be made if I'm going to be treated like that. So play what you like playing and what sounds best to you. The badge is irrelevant. And as a little footnote, my last two cars have been Skodas. My Skoda Suberb was ten times better made than any Merc or BMW I've ever owned. The badge means nothing!
9.
WOW, that Ray looks stunning. If I did not have a natural 3EQ Ray already I would bite your arm off. Have a bump on me and good luck.
Bite Mart's arm off?? How would he play his basses with only one arm?
10. I can just see you doing that on stage, looking obsessively impressed, "This, ladies & gentlemen, is a WAL bass... And if you look very closely..." Nice!
11. Those Shine vb's are pretty good. One of my db pupils has one. Nice player for the money
12. If it's still around, I'd like to come and have a look at this during the Easter holidays in a couple of weeks...
13. That's a stunning looking bass - Pity about the dings! Best of luck with the sale
14. The Yamaha SLB should fetch a good price. Possibly around £800-£1000. They are very expensive new. As for the Sabre fretless, CrazyKiwi is our resident Sabre expert as far as I know.
15. Lovely collection, Steve. I'm still swooning over the Shuker headless 6. It's a work of art! Rich.
16. Nice playing, Marti The Grind sounds really crisp and hifi, too.
17.
Sounds great! Nice deep sound. Only prob with it really is it falls off if you do fast slapping while sitting down.
A curiously common problem amongst amputees...
18. The other option with the badass II is to get one of those little 5 screwdriver sets from B&Q. One of the smaller flat head screwdrivers fits the hole perfectly with no damage to the grommit.
19. That's a really nice & varied collection you have there, Paul. That 12 is a bit of a monster! Love your DJ5 as well - The black pearloid guard sets it off a treat Rich.
20. Nice P/J mate Is that the one that Peter (GreenKing) had as well?
21. I'd just like to say here that Nick's basses are always absolutely pristine. I've had two off him in the last year or so & both looked brand new, like they'd come straight out of the box. Buy with confidence
22. Just to clarify a little, the little silver 60th badge on the back of the head just means it was made during the 60th anniversary year, 2006. The "anniversary" models were actually metallic silver MIM basses. Lovely S1-era jazz, though. I've played another similar aged Jazz with that Audere preamp & it was really nice sounding. Best of luck with the sale Rich.
23. Have a 'making sure your thread is suitably bumped while you're out' type BUMP on me, mate
