1. Nice player & singer. Lovely TRB-6 as well. Same colour as mine.
2. Very interesting - And what a musician! I like the idea of the masking tape across the strings near the bridge. Very akin to Victor Wooten's hair band at the top of the neck. Rich.
3. Andy came to buy my pristine Status SII this evening - It was a rushed affair (I had a double bass pupil here waiting to get started) but he got chance to try and bass and certainly seemed to like it! Andy is an A1 honest guy to deal with & very nice/humble, too! Recommended! Rich.
4.
I'm off to see a band tonight, and the bass player will be totin' his Jazz that he bought new back in '63. Bosshog of these parts regularly gigs his '66 J. Mine go out the house too.. that's why I bought them. I never understood the 'retirement' philosophy.. they're for playing.
I agree with you entirely - I sell on anything I'm not playing or that isn't earning it's keep, hence the sale this week of my 1990 Status SII. I also regularly play live in classical situations with tens of thousands' worth of double bass or cello. I think I said in my for sale thread this week that I'm a player, not a museum curator!
5. Now you know you have to be damned fast on a nice Status around here, Mart
6. Seems like it's Status week here on the basses for sale forum!
7. Nah, I wanna trade with him, then you can buy my Streamline, LOL!
8. That's a real pity, Rob. Let's hope it goes to a good home - It's a stunning bass.
9. BUMPING myself today because things move sooo fast around here!
10. Niiiice! If you didn't need the money I'd be offering a serious trade with my 1990 SII that's on here...
11. Have you had a moment to fit new strings to the red one yet, Rob?
12. Pretty well mint, as you say Macko. There's one professionally done very small graphite repair to the neck, otherwise it's as you see it. It's always been polished after every gig since new, so it's definitely as shiny as in the pics
13. I think all I've done in the last week or so is offer you congratulations, Rob! So, again... Congratulations mate! A stunning collection of working basses getting better by the moment Rich.
14. For if anyone's interested in one of the most beautiful all original Status basses around, this one is potentially up for sale as I'm not playing it & it's therefore not earning it's keep! Serial #538 [in cocobolo/cherry was completed in November 1990 and was owned from then until early 2008 by TerryK in the Liverpool area. The bass is totally original, with the original Status TB42 2-band preamp reinstalled by Rob Green, the original alloy edged (red wooden panelled) flightcase & gig bag. There's even the original dated warranty card. I got this bass early last year with a John East U-Retro preamp installed. Last autumn I had Rob Green at Status retrofit the original preamp back into the bass & while at Status it received a full service, including fret dressing. The instrument is currently set up on 30-90 guage Status Hotwire strings and plays like a dream. I'm not desperate to sell this, but am trying to keep to the rule that basses are there to be played and to earn me money, so the price is set at a realistic £1200 due to all the work I've had done to the bass. I'm not really thinking of any trades, but by all means feel free to make offers. The worst I can say is, "NO!" So onto the pics... Here with the John East U-Retro preamp when I bought it... Now with the original Status preamp reinstalled...
15. I also change instruments mid-set. Again, no changes of eq (luckily most of my basses have the same preamp!) Just mute the system, swap bass & go!
16. Nice piece of history there, Doc. I assume you still have the bass?
17. LOL! I know what you mean, Rob - My 35" TRB-6 II is strung with 30-40-60-80-100-125 & it's still a little high on tension. I prefer the 30 as a g-string personally - My usual 5-string sets for the Status basses are 30-50-70-90-115 Hotwires. It'll be very interesting to see how you get on with the S1-Classic.
18. Depends on which gear... But usually the answer would be, "Nay, nay & thrice nay!" Call me uncharitable by all means, but it's what earns me a large proportion of my living.
19. I'm also for the Burns Bison - I'd like one of the current ones in white with gold hardware. Much miore interesting than another Precision *yawn*
20. Yes, many are. Lakland, Status (headed), Yamaha TRB series, etc. The other advantage of the 35" scale is that you can lessen the string guage more easily without the associated neck adjustment issues. As long as you use a sensible LH technique (ie., the whole hand covering just one tone [or three fret gaps] below the 7th), there's really no difference.
21. I'd say, thinking of your potentially low volumes in church, that you'd have ample power with a Roland Bass Cube 100. I wouldn't change mine for anything.
22. There are some nice double thumbing exercises in Stuart Clayton's "Ultimate Slap Bass" book.
