1. Funny Alex should mention his S1 Jazz. That's the one Fender I really liked from the few I've had. It was the one that played and sounded like I wanted it to. But as usual, I sold it to fund another Status. You can't have everything! Rich.
2. Yes, definitely like early '42! Nice player, though.
3. I've tried very hard to like Fender. I've owned 5 of them. It's the original bass and all that, but my tastes are so much more modern. I really would like a high end jazz, but it won't be a Fender. Maybe a Sadowsky or a Status T-bass at some point. We'll see. Rich.
4. LOL! I would like it, Martin... But I'm not in a position to buy at the moment. Just bought a Streamline & a Groove, remember? You buy it! Go on, you know you want it Best of luck with the sale, Barrie. Rich.
5. Ah well mate, that's how I've set it & it seems to be playing just fine. Mewsie's playing it at the moment. She's got the Status bug!
6. Yes, all these things go in cycles, but the Classic Vibes are really good. I can't honestly find anything wrong with them at all. The Sonic Blue 60's Precision I have honestly plays and sounds better the 08 American Standard Precision I had last year. (I only traded the 08 to get my hands on one of my 5-string Status S2's as well!) Personally, yes I think it's great to see such a well equipped and well made series of basses at such a cheap price. Yes, they will all end up on the for sale forum at some point, but at the moment, they're hard to beat for the money. Until the next thing comes along! Rich.
7. I'd love an original 2000, but I'm going to wait for the reissue rumoured for this year.
8. Seriously nice and individual looking bass, Barrie! Can't wait to play that one Rich.
9. I was quoted £1000 for the one I played a few weeks ago. I reckon with a bit of haggling I could get it down to about £8-850.
10. Disclaimer: The following comments are strictly my own personal opinions as a professional musician... So don't lynch me! Firstly, why would I go for a boutique custom instrument? Because the ones I have give me the sounds I need, are vastly superior to play than mostly everything else I've ever played & the customer service with your own luthier is second to none. My own personal favourite (no surprise here, then!) is Status-Graphite. For the last nearly 30 years, every bass that has passed through the hallowed industrial unit in Colchester has passed through Rob Green's hands. He sets basses up by feel & they are always consistant to the millimetre. (I've checked on my own basses!) I like the way I'm treated there - Like a pro. And I always get exactly what I want. So I don't just like the playability of the Status basses, but also the sound. They have a growl like nothing else & I just love the almost 3d quality of sound they produce. It's almost as if the graphite gives the sound an extra dimension entirely. I'm also a big fan of Bernie Goodfellow of GB basses. I've played a few of the older basses & had one for a short while in the early 90's, and more recently had a go on a more modern Rumour bass. Stunning workmanship & playability. I'm not so much of a fan (personally) of JayDee. I've played a lot of JayDees and never found one I liked. The instruments seem to lack output compared to a Status & always seem such hard work to play. Overwater isn't my cup of tea, either. I played one of the original 'angled block' shape OW's many years ago & loved it. Every more modern OW I've played since has felt very ordinary and sounded no different to so many other generic instruments. Perhaps I've just been unfortunate and played some dogs, but they do seem to be consistantly dull! I'd really like to try a Shuker bass. I've never played one, but I know so many people on here are totally satisfied with them. We'll see Rich.
11. Actually, thinking about it, I've only bought the lurid sonic blue Squier for a week of "Boogie Nights" next week. If you're looking for a mint one at a bargain price, all set up properly, give me a shout after the 14th Feb Rich.
12. Quality can be hit or miss on any Fender product. I've found Mex basses that played like a dream & USA instruments that played like dogs and felt half finished. There are good and bad of each. Basically, try before you buy. That should be the Fender rule, no matter which model line you're going for... Try before you buy!
13. I'd definitely go for the Classic Vibe 60's Precision. I've got one and it's awesome apart from the totally gay sonic blue paint job! Neck is excellent, pickups are noisless with excellent output & it has the vintage tuners & a much better high-mass bridge. What's not to like? Rich.
14. Nice looking bass! I always fancied the Gibson "money" bass version in the rootbeer finish. Rich.
15. LOL - I know what you mean. I was shocked when I bought the Ashdown MAG Evo rig the other week. The combo is only 10kg more than my MarkBass combo, but the difference seemed to be trying to rip my arm off on the way up the bloody stairs! Luckily, the Ashdown's going to be kept in a band bus most of the time! Rich.
16. I'm still waiting for Mewsie to bring her GB rig over. Dying to try one! Yours looks really nice, mate - Heavy? Rich.
17. Damn! I was really looking forward to my trip to Harrogate. Now it seems I have a gig at Gainsborough at lunchtime on that Sunday, followed by a date with three agents & a promoter Maybe next year! Rich.
18. I have the Sadowsky outboard pre pedal & the basic advantage is that you can use it with any passive bass... Rich.
19. If you're "pretty excited about those bats" as you say, I'd say it's the perfect bass for you - Buy it with all speed Rich.
20. So here we have the newest development from Status (not!). Some of you eagle eyed people on Statii will have spied this one, but it really is worth a look and a read! Rich.
21. Nice. Seriously nice. You don't see many of these up for sale! Rich.
22. That's a tricky one. Venues are easy, but her band "Heathrow" would have to fund their own passage over here & for their own gear as well. Possible
23. Hi everyone, our very good friend Nick, aka. Doctor_of_the_bass has just undergone a four hour operartion to repair his eardrum. Luckily he made it through, so I thought we'd all like to send him our best wishes for a great bass player & not to mention great collector of gear! Get well soon, brother! Best wishes, Rich.
