Hi Steen!
As TheGreek said, the magnetic poles may be dragging the G string and causing the sound to feel 'dead'. Lowering the pickup / poles under the G might work.
Hi Julian,
I'm not sure I qualify as a 'proper' bass player either (not in a band currently etc.)!
But this is a great site for learning more from other people's experiences (not just in music).
All the best!
Buddy Guy - not modern, but still going strong as far as I know. Saw him live at the Bridgewater Hall Mcr a few years ago - was brilliant!

Hi Daveox,
I'm new to Basschat too. I've have a Yamaha BB434 since december last year & can confirm that it is exceptionally well-made, great sounding bass.
I'm sure that you'll get lots of joy from of your 734!
All the best!
Hugh
Hi Basschat!
I've been playing bass since the early '90s - in bands 'til mid-2000s, gigging a fair bit. Bit of a break until last year when I joined a (very) amateur band which didn't work out sadly
Not sure of direction now - just know that I enjoy learning new things on the bass (and buying gear!). Will see how it goes whether to find a new band.
I've really enjoyed reading the forums for the past few months - a lot of knowledge and kindness out there.
Hugh
