I've spent this evening reading a number of posts across Basschat and Talk bass about going ampless, which is a direction I'm looking to take. However, I do want a decent powered speaker to act as a stage monitor / passable bass amp for small gigs and rehearsals. All my tone and colouration is coming from a pre-amp / DI box (which I intend to build a small collection of) so really just looking for something that can front those and give out a reasonable amount of volume as a monitor / small rig replacement. The common ones I see discussed are the: Headrush FRFR-112 Alto TS412 RCF ART 912-A Electro Voice ELX200-12P (not really mentioned, but are provided by local rehearsal studio) Yamaha DXR12mkII QSC k12.2 From those that have already travelled down this path, any thoughts / experiences on any of the above (or other) options and any tips on getting the most out of that sort of setup?

Tom just purchased a bass from me and the end to end experience has been fantastic. Communication between us was excellent with quick and hassle free payment. I also really appreciated @tom1946 messaging me to confirm all arrived safely as soon as it was received. Top gentleman to deal with!

Thanks @Richie_b .. I ended up ordering the one @Dazm66 tipped me off about,. £597 from Peach Guitars, it seems crazy they are selling them for that price, free next day delivery and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow before lunch :). PS. @Dood - I hope your health starts to improve!

Thanks for the response @Dood! Amp was just an Ampeg Rocket combo that was in the store, I suspect it was just faulty electronics. Problem is there only appear to be two black ones in the country, this and one at the Bass Gallery (who I refuse to deal with after a few shitty experiences).

I stopped into Stompbox Northwood at lunch today and gave the Space 5 they had a go. I really really liked it , I’m looking for a five string and this seems like a lot of bass for the money, even at £750. the one thing that put me off was the volume control , it seemed to be either on at full volume or off within a very small range of movement in the master volume knob. There was no tapering. The guy at the shop told me this wasn’t a problem and the pots could always be upgraded but it didn’t feel right to me. @Dood did you do your test of these, was it something you noticed (or anyone else who owns one, or spent a bit of time playing one) or were the electronics on this one a bit dodgy?

@AndyTravis is one of may favourite people here on #basschat. He insisted on paying me for my acoustic pre-amp which I was perfectly happy for him to keep hold of it to try out for a while, that's the kind of straight up guy he is. If you ever have cause to trade here on the marketplace with Andy do so with complete confidence!

Bass --> FoH with no backline. What preamp pedal are you using?

I picked up a tuner from @jacq this week. It was put in the post the day I transferred the funds and arrived 2 days later. It was extremely well packaged and the pedal is as new condition. He was also kind enough to provide the original invoice so I can register it for warranty purposes. I would not hesitate in dealing with @jacqagain. Thanks very much!

Paul bought a HX Stomp from me this week. Great person to deal with, lots of open communication and prompt transfer of funds. I hope you get on well with the stomp, enjoy!

I purchased these from reverb a few years ago to record my father-in-law playing piano before he passed away from cancer. He was raising money for cancer research UK through his playing (https://www.pianograndad.com) and raised over £12,000 in total through social media exposure. Sadly, I no longer have a need for these and will move them on. They are in acceptable used condition where both the mics and flight case show signs of use. Price includes delivery to the UK mainland.

The Ashdown Acoustic Preamp Pedal has a very simple yet effective design that uses many of the features of the classic Ashdown acoustic preamp. It includes a notch filter, high and low EQ rotary controls as well as the Ashdown pre-shape feature. There is also a very useful balanced DI out on the back of the pedal allowing the user to run their signal straight into the PA for ease of use and will keep any sound guy happy, no need for a DI box. Pedal is in good used condition and price includes delivery to the UK mainland.

I bought this from this forum in 2022 as a gateway to short scale basses. For the price it’s really lovely instrument and is in very good condition. The previous owner had made some tasteful tweaks to make it look more like the higher end models. The sale also includes the official hard case along with a set of both round wound and flat wound Hofner strings and the original parts that had been replaced (truss rod cover, control knobs, pickguard). I subsequently bought a Nordstrand Acinonyx last year and haven’t picked the Hofner up since so it’s time to move it on. Collection preferred but since it has a hard case a courier could be organised at buyers expense. No trades please.

Line6 Helix Stomp with additional foot switch, power supply, TRS and USB cable. Updated to firmware version 3.71. All in very good used condition, £425 collected (can be posted special delivery for additional cost, UK only). These are now selling for almost £700 new from UK retailers. No trades please. Note: the Rock Star graphic on the footswitch is just a sticker one of my young children gave me. It covers up the phrase `skinny little twins` which someone (previous owner?) has written in red.

Although not the Cube combo, I've been using a GR 350 head and 2x8 (4 ohm) cab for all our rehearsals and small gigs (pubs, small local theatres and street parties) with no problem at all.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time crafting a ‘virtual’ rig with my Helix Stomp …. It’s become what I now consider to be my sound for the band I play for.
-
I've been using a GR Bass Mini One: https://www.grbass.com/portfolio/mini-one/. Aux In and Headphone jacks, but still 350w.

Dunlop tortex .73mm (basically what I used to use to play guitar with). I'm going to try some slightly heavier picks with the grip mouldings.

I'm looking for some advice to help with a particular pick playing problem I'm having please. The covers band I'm involved with play I saw Her Standing There by the Beatles which I duly play with a pick. It's one of 4 songs in our set list that I play with a pick, however, with this one I have an ongoing issue with it slipping out of position between my fingers to the point I can no longer play thus forcing me to briefly stop to adjust. On a warm gig night with slightly sweaty hands this can happen a few times in a relatively short song. Has anyone else faced a similar problem? I'm hoping I can get some pointers on either technique, or tips, on how to solve the problem.

A HX stomp is working really well for me at the moment. I can't get on with creating / editing patches directly on the unit but hooking it up via USB to my Mac makes it very easy, despite the HX edit software feeling rather dated. I really like the versatility of the unit, I've gigged with it a couple of times this year using it as a pre-amp/compressor/EQ along with a couple of FX patches but it's also what I've been using for all my home practice with a set of IEMs plugged into the headphone socket. I wish the filter and synth effects were better but other than that most of the effects sound pretty good and there's a decent selection of bass amps and cabs available.

First proper outing for my mini rig at a coronation street party gig this afternoon. Nordstrand Acinonyx short scale bass into a GR Mini One amp and matching 2x8 cabinet. Out of shot is a Helix Stomp set up as a pre-amp along with chorus and synth effects.
