  1. Been thinking of trying his walking bass line course, since I can't buy gear this sounds like a great opportunity.
  2. I'm looking forward to today's installment.
  3. I love that he forked up and left it in the video. Never knew much about Leland before now but I'm really enjoying getting to know him through this series of videos. Thanks for posting @NoirBass
  4. I found myself on the Barefaced website last weekend , seeing you flaunt my SC on here and the impending 25th deadline got my GAS going.
  5. Wow, what a change in approach. Loved his playing in this one !
  6. I'm currently studying Walking Bass lines with the aim of landing a place, or at least some dep work with a local traditional Jazz group or two a guitarist friend plays in. As part of my studies I need to be more familiar with standards and so I want to build a playlist of definitive, or at least well regarded, recorded versions of these to get started. I'm looking for the BC's collective wisdom on what I should include.
  7. Lol, I assumed it was end of day 25th :).Lucky I checked or I may have failed on day 1.
  8. Is 23:59 the deadline for any ordering ??
  9. I had a UPS delivery yesterday 24 hours all the way from Italy, was very surprised, especially as it didn't arrive like this:
  10. Similar experience - I find when the helix is connected via USB to my laptop all sorts of clicks and whirls transfer through to the amp
  11. And serves the song completely. Apart from the outro on video 2 there's no overly flashy playing
  12. Oh absolutely not going to be a substitute for the real thing, wouldnt claim otherwise.
  13. I believe those settings represent the pre with treble and bass fully boosted. The 0/0 setting represents it set flat. Using these as the two extremes you could set it where you want in the middle. You could even use a exp pedal to dynamically control the settings. I think the important bit of the patch are the Q settings. Im interested to try it.
  14. What a great video, loved how he comes across.
  15. I'm pretty sure Bobby Vega uses a standard Dunlop .73mm pick. I tried a few variations but could never find a pick tone that I liked with any combination of thin / thick, small / large. I gave up in the end. I'll follow this thread with interest to see what recommendations you get.
  16. Not sure on release dates for the new range, I saw spring referenced which is pretty vague. But there are some great options this year if you're looking for a J bass. I suspect the Metroline might be priced a little higher than the Sandbergs, and the MetroExpresses a little lower but a tad more than the equivelent Sires. I have 2 Sandberg P basses and they are great instruments .. certainly wouldnt go wrong with a TT or TM
  17. Nordstrand Dual Coils (parallel wound) for my Shuker custom. Spec'd it originally with Jazz pickups and they sound great but I've kept my five string Jazz and let's be honest, it's not if I get some sort of Sadowsky it's a when, so keeping it as a pure J seems a bit pointless especially as Jon will do the routing work without charge. I got to play a Sadowsky modern recently, loved the sound of it so I'm tweaking my Shuker to be a bit Sadowsky modernish. I installed a Nordstrand pre, as Carey based the design off of Roger's famous pre and the Nordstrand DC's are similar to the Seymour Duncan soapbars Roger uses.
  18. Pickups ordered yesterday. So far holding strong on the Sadowsky (and now Sire) GAS. Not helped by @AndyTravis 's new purchase or @Al Krow tagging me into the Sire thread!!
  19. Over the 4-5 years I've been playing bass I've tried various paid content providers. I know a lot of BCers love to hate but @devinebass 's bass academy is the best I've come across. I signed up a number of years ago after failing to find a local teacher that wasn't just a guitar teacher trying to earn a few extra bucks teaching bass badly. I'm now a life time member and I keep going back. The theory courses by Phil Man are very good and I'm currently working on the Beginners Jazz Survival guide by Scott himself which is helping me immensely in my transition from a tired rock covers bassist to Jazzer. I picked up some books by Joe Hubbard in his Black Friday sale that I've yet to get stuck into but look really good. It's not paid content, but @TKenrickis running a groove of the week series that's great in the theory/technique section of this forum!
  20. That's super kind but I have a rule - never touch another man's wood! I'm in on your 3 / 9 diet challenge, I just need to order some pickups for my custom then I'm golden. This is so true, I have 4 kids and by the time bed times are finished I'm too tired to pick up the guitar. I always seem to somehow end up on basschat and bassdirect credit card in hand.
  21. I need to keep reminding myself that I do not need another bass, or any gear really. I just need more practice, and to line up a band for when the apocalypse is over!
  22. Looks like a lot of bass for not much money. How's the neck and action, weight? At those prices I wouldn't mind giving a fretless a go.
  23. I played a modern at Bass Direct a few months back - lovely instrument and I really liked the Pre-Amp. IIRC correctly they are chambered to keep the weight down.
  24. That's lovely. I've got some real sadowsky GAS at the moment and seeing things like this doesn't help.
