  1. It's such a joy to play, the most playable instrument I've ever owned. I'm trying to sell a bunch of my other basses sonI can buy a straight VS4 to partner with it.
  2. Finally got a chance to take the CTM30 and VS-212 to a studio and play at some volume. Acoustic drum kit and Orange Combo guitar amps dialled to 11, was way too loud but the lil' stubby was able to keep up (though the VU meter spent a fair bit of time in the red). I didn't love the sound with drive above 2pm but at about 1 with the feedback at 230 I was getting a really nice tone. I reckon you could do a covers gig down the dog n duck with it but anything bigger would need PA support. Since I ain't gigging these days rehearsal volumes works perfectly for me.
  3. Yeah, I'm not so worried about the resale value - if I get to a point where I want to sell it it's already a massive failure. I just hope that I enjoy playing it and find it comfortable. My Sanberg PJ is such a joy to play I hope my custom build can equal it.
  4. Yes, I always wondered what the point of the dots on the fingerboard was, unless you're craning right over the neck the side dots are much more useful.
  5. These comments make me extremely nervous about my inbound custom bass which will hopefully be ready fairly soon I've tried to play safe working with woods and dimensions from basses I've loved playing and also went to visit to luthier and try a few of the basses he'd just finished working on, so hopefully I'll fall in the delighted camp but I guess you'll never know until it arrives.
  6. 3 little birds - Bob Marley Little Wing - Hendrix, Derek and the Dominos etc Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
  7. Ah, I can be guilty of taking things a little too literally (rooted in the high functioning autism I clearly have), but equally there are some serious fanatics on this forum and it wouldnt have surprised me if there wasnt some truth in it.
  8. Did you really remortgage to just buy the Mesa, or was the Mesa just one of the reasons?
  9. I think it's probably one of these https://www.east-uk.com/index.php/bass/mid-sweep-01.html

I'm first in line for the CTM!
  11. I played a few gigs with a guitarist who switched between 3 guitars during our set. The only reason was because we had multiple tunings and although it did slow things down it was a lot quicker for him to swap guitar than retune. We tried to group songs together that were in the same tunings so it wasnt too disruptive. I bought a five string Jazz Bass and just worked out how to play the songs on that rather than have multiple basses - that worked for me.
  12. (1) Haha yeah, though I thought I saw you had it up for sale a while ago. (2) Nooooooooo, no more suggestions I'm already gassing for a Tonehammer PreAmp after listening to @dannybuoy's rendtion of Bernadette he posted on the old school MoTown sound thread - I think I need to learn to get on with what I have for the time being. (3) Is now a moot point since I no longer play in a band and have little desire to get back into one in the near future.
  13. 1. Purchasing an expensive cabinet unseen / without trying it because lots of folks on Basschat say it's awesome 2. Trying to find an OD / Distortion pedal that I actually like the sound of 3. Naively thinking anything smaller than a 4x10 cabinet is too small to gig with.
  14. Hi Guys, I've decided that I have no choice but to pull out all the electronics on my active J bass and have them fully replaced; pre-amp, pots, jack the lot. Does anyone know a good workshop in south herts or north london that would do a good job? Cheers PJ
  15. Possibly for an Aguilar or John East onboard pre-amp.
  16. I'm 40 and I've found since learning bass for the past 4 years my taste in music has changed dramatically. My favourite bands at the moment is the Tedeschi Trucks Band, I also really like Snarky Puppy, Vulfpeck and the various spin offs and sub projects from members of those bands (Cory Wong, Fearless Flyers, Mark Lettieri etc). I'm also discovering all that great soul and funk from the 60s and 70s that passed me by all these years when I exclusively listened to alternative rock. Great music for bass players.
  17. Unfortunately not , but if you are local you are welcome to come play it. I couldn't find any YouTube clips of this exact model but there are plenty available for similar ones if you look, they will give you the general idea. Thanks
  18. I'm not sure I can live without knowing if this was resolved. I'm tempted to ask Jon directly hahaha
  19. Haha yeah I'll PM you but will just clarify on this thread that I have changed specification on him multiple times which has delayed proceedings :).
