  1. I would love one of those !!!
  2. For anyone unlucky enough not to get anywhere with Amazon there's one for sale on BC.
  3. Today is my birthday and I just had the dispatch note to say the book will be delivered today! Thank you Geddy for pulling whatever strings you did for me
  4. That seems very odd, I would definitely contact them and ask WTF. I haven't had an email but order status on the website says it will arrive Tuesday. I won't hold my breath.
  5. Funny, I learnt that song last week for that exact purpose. So I ended up quitting that band, partly because of the experiences and partly because of some things going on with my kid that meant I didn't have time for it. However, I'm still working on those improvisation skills because they are important to me. I'm learning a lot of Flea's grooves and fills - figured if I have to play Rock I'll play it as funked up as I can :). i'm also working on jamming to common chord progressions in pop / rock music to build my ear and listening skills.
  6. First update from Jon. Body taking shape so to speak.
  7. BandHelper is a cross platform option I looked at. On song is what I've ended up with but its IOS only.
  8. I could see 10-15 basses as a reasonable amount for as working / pro musician. The typical, J, P and MM's. A few goto gigging basses with a couple as backups or for alternate tunings Perhaps a vintage, YOB or iconic bass or two. But 20+ seems excessive :).. How many is in your collection, its probably earlier in this thread so apologies if you are repeating yourself.
  9. Agree, I tend to tune out the static ads so I'm not worried about those. The problem is the pop up, on my phone screen it reduces the available space to read posts and when I try and type a reply like this is covers the text input box so I can't see what I'm doing. Will try ABP.
  10. Enjoyed that a lot! @PUREJOYPEOPLE.. I remember your lead bass post a while ago. Some great tones in this that may interest you!
  11. I'm not sure what's worse, the Ads or the puns.
  12. I love bass guitar, and I love spending money on bass guitars but I struggle to get my head around such large collections.
  13. Is it possible to remove ads for those of us with paid subscriptions? Thanks
  14. Did you move so you'd have more room for your basses?
  15. I've only auditioned once for band, I made sure I knew the songs they wanted me to play and put myself across as a likeable, dependable guy. Turned out I knew the songs better than the outgoing bassist so all was good and I was in. I'm still in that band today, what do I bring to the table now ... Well I seem to be the only one who understands how to use a damn PA/Mixer and what the flip EQ is for. I usually have to lend someone a spare cable, battery, tuner, even a flipping guitar once at rehearsal because someone forgot to bring or has a broken one.
  16. Oasis Rock n Roll Star. I'm constantly flipping up the chord progression.
  17. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, those are them Indie kids with no Bassist right? Might be a reason they weren't mentioned on this here forum. Heathens!!!
  18. Beastie Boys ? No guitar on Intergalactic
  19. ⁷With SBL you get what you pay for. The free stuff can be interesting but the newer YouTube content is much less educational and more around promoting the SBL brand and driving people to paid content, I.e the academy or the newer stand alone courses. I'm a paid up SBL academy member, I'd recommend the free trial to see what your think. The website has been updated significantly over the past 12 months, content is much easier to find and filter to what is of interest / focus. The lessons are direct and there are a variety of course creators, not just Scott. I think the quality of material is pretty good. I've just watched the video @devinebassshot in response to a recent thread on here, there's some good information in there about the academy and why his YT content has gone the way it has. It's an interesting watch. I've tried content from other Online educators and I tend to not find them as engaging as Scott so I always end up back at the SBL - but I haven't tried their paid content so it's probably not a fair comparison. I should check out Talkingbass more thoroughly.
  20. A few ideas from similar stuff I've played with a Pub Covers esque band... Biffy Clyo - Who's Got a Match Green Day - Basket Case, Longview etc. Feeder - Just a Day , I'm pretty sure they are a trio but may tour with more members. Muse - Time Is Running Out Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World Sublime - What I Got
  21. Finger noise drove me nuts. A certain amount is inevitable with round wound strings, especially steels. As previously mentioned it largely gets lost in the mix of a full band setting but I hated it when playing on my own. I switched to flat wounds, Ernie Ball Cobalts to be precise which still retain a certain amount of the round wound sound with reduced noise. D'Addario Chromes are another option for flats that still retain a brightness. Coated round wounds may be another option. I think Elixr do them, Nano web coating I think it's called?? Worth investigating too. Other than that, practice practice practice.
  22. I find this too. One of the singers of the band I play with favours 80's pop so we always have a few of her songs in a set list. Nothing I'd considering listening to by choice, but damn her choices have the most fun bass lines to play : especially compared to SO69, You Really Got Me, Teenage Kicks, bad moon rising etc etc
  23. I was expecting to read a list of songs in line of : Summer of 69, Livin' on a Prayer, Sweet Child, Teenage Kicks, You've Really Got Me (where the guitarists taps van Galen style for the solo)... Sadly 90% of those are included in my bands set list .. I wouldn't have a problem with those you mention although they don't naturally sit in indie covers set list
