1. These are great basses! Since I bought mine last year it has firmly overtaken my MM Sterling as my main bass. The necks are simply amazing! I'd almost be tempted to own another one.
2. Hi Moos3h, I'm potentially pretty interested but is there any chance you could put some pics up? I just want to see what minor play wear and pickguard scratches look like before my GAS gets into full flow.
3.
an all-original 1966 daphne blue fender mustang in near-mint condition with lollypop tuners & creamy pearl pickguard
Could you be a little more specific?
4. Any kind of Warwick Streamer - I just love the body shape.
5.
I see the 'ladys' are well catered for!
"glass of white wine or a fruit based drink for the ladies"
6. I'm finding it really hard to focus on the instrument but I guess anyone would if they attempted consume what was behind it.
7.
More importantly: Ex- Dead Kennedys drummer!
This is true. To be honest, I hadn't got a clue who he was until I got back home and looked him up.
8. I met him in September as he and a band he was playing with were rehearsing at my friend's rehearsal studio in Santa Monica. He was playing with DH Peligro (ex-Chilis drummer) and Rocky from Suicidal Tendencies. They were all really nice guys and the music that was coming out of the room was great - the smell coming out was pretty potent too considering they'd been asked not to smoke in there! Apologies for the name dropping.
9. I'd just like to agree with several others that this likely to be a one off situation and I am sure an amicable solution will be reached. I'd also like to share my experience of the two Compacts that I feel I was lucky enough to wrestle from the grasp of two other BC members. I have found them to be very, very robust and the lack of any real weight means that on a one-cab gig (which is often due to their output) I can walk from car to venue in one journey. I have not found them lacking in bottom end at all but neither am I noticing any mid-range scoop and although a different model to Rob's I would probably say it's the mids that I love the most about them. I have used them in a rock\metal band, a funk band and a ska band and coupled with my SA450 I have been able to produce the kind of tones needed for all of those styles with no problems.
10.
Wow! Thanks Mark, that's a pretty detailed review. So have you done away with the Compact for the PC's then? I'm presuming a 4 ohm PC 212T would be more than adequate as a one cab solution, and save me 5kg on the Schroeder 410L that I have at the moment?
I was reading this thread knowing that Mark had just acquired two of these very handsome cabs (pun intended) thinking that I should point him to it when I found that he'd already given quite an extensive review. I was the person who gratefully relieved him of his Compact and I'm more than happy that now I have two they could probably handle any of my gigging situations. I have to say when advertising pays a big chunk of the upkeep of most of these publications these days, that they dare give a lukewarm or bad review of any gear.
11. It's still better than any UK bass mag I've ever read. I used to read Bassist too and it made me feel embarrassed to play what came across as clearly an idiot's instrument played in very simple fashion by the likes of Guigsy et al. Obviously Bass Player has to pander to their younger readers by interviewing the bassist from the current "big thing" rock bands but there are still enough decent articles. I admit that it's not as good as when Bill Leigh was editor but it's still easily the best out there.
12. I don't have it either but l have a ton of them from the early to mid 90's - when it was still good (IMHO).
13. I've just started playing with a reggae\ska band where it's clear to me the drummer hasn't a clue how to play those styles, so I totally feel your pain. I'm afraid my solution is going to be a him or me scenario though - perhaps you're not quite at that point yet.
14. I have genuine love for the people in my bands but I've known most of them a long time, I guess I must be lucky.
15. I'm sure anyone who's dealt with Mark previously will agree he's a top bloke. Good luck with the sale Mark and £350 is a bargain indeed and it looks pretty much immaculate in the pics - is it sitting on top of a Purple Chili cab in pics by any chance?
16. They look very pretty to me. The jack socket location seems so much more sensible too.
17.
Oh, I see. In that case you won't be disappointed! The 2 Compacts stacked on top of each other are great. The output power is truly trouser flapping Back on track with this topic - I think I may need to get some of these Iso blocks...
I got my second cab today and only turned the SA450 up to 9 o'clock but I genuinely feared I would be causing structural damage to my house! These Compact cabs really are amazing - I think I've finally found the cabs I've been looking for! Also back on track, I will definitely be getting hold of some of these blocks too very soon.
18. It's possible to juggle more than one busy band as long as they both understand that it's first come first served in the gig booking department. I have two on the go and am actively seeking a third simply because I really enjoy gigging as long as it's with a quality band. However, if you'd rather be going out on a Friday or Saturday night and letting your hair down with your friends instead, then it's potentially a lonely old X miles drive home at 2am in the middle February - especially after a night in front of an unappreciative crowd.
19. I had one of these which I sold a few years back, didn't realise they were so rare. It was taken to a few hotels around Europe and was a talking point at airports seeing as the carry bag looked like it had some kind of rifle inside.
20. I had the Squier VMJ, no complaints here, all original hardware and gigged many times with no problems at all. Only sold it to fund a more expensive bass purchase and would happily own another - although I really like the look of the Classic Vibe Jazz.
21.
One pair will be fine. Alex
Then I think I'll be in touch soon to order.
Hey Rowbee, I've got the exact same setup! How you getting on with yours? I love the combination and sounds coming out of it. Cheers, Jon
Hi Jon. I currently have the one cab but am picking up the other one next week. To be honest I'm happy for most gigs with just the one but worry that there may be occasions on larger gigs where I might just need that little bit more. In terms of sound, I think the combination of amp and cab is superb and the fact that I can carry all the kit I'll need for the night from car to venue in one go is a huge bonus.
22. How many would I need with two BF Compacts and a MB SA450 sitting on top? I've been toying with the Auralex idea for a while but hate the idea of carrying yet something else.
23.
Having spent 3 years living there some years back, I've never heard anyone say that before.
I know what you mean, but I was actually 5 miles north of Exeter. What I really meant was that I miss Devon and all the beautiful countryside. What I don't miss is the over inflated prices and ridiculous traffic during the Summer grockle season!
24. With a name like Adamski, the last thing I expected was black metal. I do miss Plymo though.
25.
This sounds fantastic with the L115 I'm trading! Thanks Rowbee! Glad to be home?
So glad that I'm now plotting my next holiday back to LA in the new year!!
