Somebody on BC knows. I think I remember the logo from a thread two to three years ago, and back then it was solved. I tried searching, but to no avail.
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the headstock pic - pretty sure I've seen that squiggle before, and for my money it's a stylised "M". Something beginning with M, then... Jon.

Cool - haven't seen one of these in years. Didn't want one back then, don't have GAS for one now but that's a pretty unique piece of vintage JapCrap. I think these were built by Fujigen - well, the bass bit anyhow. If I remember, Roland had a deal with Kanda Shokai, and certain Roland controllers are pretty much re-badged Grecos with extra electronics. Not this one, obviously, but it still ends up being strangely related to MIJ Fenders. Funny old world...

I have a chrome one of these in my spares box! No idea what mine came from but I've seen them on a few late 80s/90s middle-range basses, probably mostly MIK. The design is aesthetically, if not functionally, derived from Schaller's excellent 3D bridge: Still a solid-looking bridge, even if it ain't a Schaller. The only reason I haven't used the one I have is because the string spacing seems a bit wide. Jon.
Yes the twin went to Jon and it is indeed progtastic however another weighty bass hence the swap - much heavier than the T40 though!
The twin neck is actually so heavy it generates its own gravity well, and is in danger of collapsing into itself & creating a black hole. This should be a great live gimmick if I can tolerate wearing it for the duration of an entire song. 17lbs, fact fans! Meanwhile, buy Ash's T-40, it's a blinder! J.

Traded my Peavey T-40 for a quite incredible Gordy Blueshift twin-neck, Ash is a total gent, the deal went smoother than a gravy sandwich and I'll happily do business with him anytime. Highly recommended! Jon.

That's a great price for what looks like a tidy, original example of a Mk1 Blazer. Someone get it bought! Jon.

Would be a good price in original condition, unfortunately this one's not. De-frets on basses like this tend to hail from an era when they were regarded as throwaway junk, and treated as such. It's unlikely to be a great job, and massively devalues the bass. Hardware isn't original (although the bridges used by Matsumoku at this point were crap) and Schaller tuners weren't standard, it should have Westbury-logo'd Gotohs. The case isn't really a selling point, but this would have been sold in a hard case with a Westbury logo, not some padded plastic bag, no matter how "original" it is. Far too expensive and far too much of a project. Which is a shame as I have a bit of Westy Track IV GAS (to go with my Track 2 & Westbury Standard) - but not this one, even if it is just down the road from me. And what the hell is a "Gibson Clipper"? Jon.

I owned 2 MIJ early 90s SR800s, fretted & fretless. Superb basses, miss both of them and now have nagging SR GAS. Not much help, really! Jon.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Bassassin replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Agreed - this is far too expensive & the non-original parts (tuners & bridge) reduce the value further. I already have a Track 2, and a bit of GAS for a Track 4 (I fancy trying a 2x P, having never owned one) but I wouldn't touch this. J. -
Couple of other pics: Don't think it's a copy, looks like it has full width inlays & wavy Grover tuners, which would make it '73 or earlier, and modded with 2x slanty J pups. "BurgundyGlo" finish? Jon.

I'd do the trade (getting an MC800 for the equivalent of £350 is a bit of a steal) & live with it for a bit, then decide. Good opportunity to stick a bunch of pics on BC, if nothing else! J.

I've sold a lot of stuff on Ebay, 99% of those sales have been very good financially. However there are always exceptions - for example I recently sold a bass that I'd spent a lot of time & effort to restore cosmetically & make properly functional & playable. I'd also spent a fair bit on parts. I listed this bass at £99p, no reserve, and ended up getting a whole £65 for it. Within a week the buyer had relisted it (along with a description that was a pack of lies) for £200. The point being, sometimes you have to take it on the chin. I wouldn't have considered for a second reneging on the deal, just because I didn't get some price that only existed in my head. Unfortunately in this instance, I'm pretty sure the only reason that the OP is apparently being so reasonable about this is simply because the seller is a BC member. I suppose on balance, that's a good thing. Jon.

That's an Aria AMB-50, I had one the same - in fact technically I still do - lent it to a mate about 4 years ago & I think he's forgotten it's not his! Don't think these were around in the 80s, mine was late 90s MIK, and was a current model up until quite recently, I think. Good basses, quite loud acoustically & quite a nice versatile pre-amp - GLWTS! Jon.

Depends who wants it! People ask - but don't tend to get - some very ambitious money for Ibby MC series basses & guitars. I think if I was selling a late 70s MC800 in original condition (this is very important!) I'd ask around £475 and hope to get around £425-450. Originality is vital - a few years back I found an MC150 guitar (pretty low end in the Musician range but a fairly rare model) in quite rough condition, numerous parts swapped/missing. I restored it as best I could, using reproduction & re-issue MC series parts, and eventually sold it for £250. If it had been all original, it would have got £400+, even in "player" condition. What's the value of the bass you're considering trading, if you don't mind me asking? Jon.

What's the best looking bass for £300 or under
Bassassin replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
Guvnor GB704, being sold new for £219. http://www.amazon.co...#productDetails
That's a really nice-looking bass, that. There are so many of these budget neckthroughs around, can't help wondering how long before we start seeing Aria SB clones. Jon. -

Bassassin replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
If I had a spare £180 & time to go to Prestwick, I'd be all over that Washboard - these hardly ever come up & are usually much pricier when they do. Someone go & buy it! The other one's almost certainly MIJ and definitely worth £25. J. -
Such a shame you chose a rare, collectable & near-vintage Japanese bass to do that to. Jon.
-
Calm down, everyone! Here you are: There. All better now? J.

These days if a guy walks onstage with a Rick, what you know is that he's got £2000 to spend on a fairly one-trick bass. This might be important to some people, I suppose. When I've walked onstage with this: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:73352] - everyone wants to know about it. J.

Bassassin replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It is lovely, but it wants to be about half that price if he's going to get any interest. J. -
And I'd certainly question the ergonomics.
I'm inclined to agree, it's not exactly a case of function dictating form! J.

I like it but it's extremely reminiscent of some of the more out-there 80s Japanese headless designs: Aria Pro Interceptor Westone Quantum Yamaha BX-1 Ibanez Axstar I think I'd like it better with a natural finish & some of the more angular forms softened a bit. Either that or just go the whole hog & make it from plastic & lop the head off! Jon.
