Cheers, I just spotted one on EBay for £105. I won't get a chance to try one out, but could be worth the punt
Rude not to at that price! J.
I'm on the lookout for a backup bass and came across this: http://www.guitarandampshop.co.uk/acatalog...ss_Guitar_.html I know the aesthetics will be polarising, but I really like it. What online info I can get, it sounds good for the money. It's a backup bass, so will only really be used if the Precision dies onstage. Most of the time it will be hanging around pubs unsupervised. The Fiesta Red Squier CV is always in my mind as an alternative, but it's more money
I like these - particularly as it's a non-ironic reissue of an old JapCrap Mosrite copy! Not had much of a play but the brief unplugged impression was favourable, like many of the modern low to medium range Arias. Nicely made too for the price range - if you like the looks (I definitely do) and can find a well-priced one it might well make a good backup. Best try & find one in a shop for a tryout, though. Jon.

Re-badged Kasuga Scorpion, nothing to do with Alembic apart from being vaguely similarly styled. Overpriced by at least £100. Not quite as idiotically optimistic as that lovely plywood Columbus EB though! J. -

Split body from over-zealous screwing!
Bassassin replied to Skol303's topic in Repairs and Technical
Any chance of some pics of the damage? My first guess is that it's a plywood body & has split between the ply layers - if so it's an easy enough fix but I can't really advise without actually seeing it. Jon. -

No harm in experimenting - just don't use Superglue to stick it in! Jon.
I've seen lots of Japcrap EB3s on eBay, but they don't have that longer body shape, so I've passed on them. Some day I'll find one.
A bit like this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=300509706599 I have the guitar version of this & it has the elongated body, these are related to your old bass, perhaps an earlier version. What's really infuriating is that this was listed with a £75 BIN - nearly went for it myself (just to have the pair), decided against that & went to post it on BC - but some tit had placed a bid which cancelled the BIN. Retarded. I presently have an Antoria EB3 copy waiting (very patiently!) for me to put it back together. More news when I've done that, then. Jon.

Bollocks, bollocks, bollocks, bollocks - why must it always be bollocks? Cobain didn't have a "Sears bass" because there's no such thing. Sears is just the name of a US mail-order catalogue that sold cheapsh!t Korean junk like that thing that made young Kurt give up his bass playing aspirations. The Ebay one most certainly isn't a "Sears" because I very much doubt they delivered to Mansfield. There must be a way to stop these people. Is it OK to set fire to them? Jon.

60s JapCrap shortscale weirdo, made by Matsumoku, judging by the neckplate & pickups. J. -
Easy - that'd be Eberhard Weber on Kate Bush's Mother Stands For Comfort: Not sure if he's playing fretless bass guitar or an upright on this, but gorgeous playing all the same. Jon.
hmmm, so that means if I fit an Ivory top nut to my bass I'll have Jumbo Nuts?
You most certainly will. And if that's not worth being murdered by Animal Rights protesters for, then I don't know what is. J.
-
It's an arcane term which originates from the era when ivory was widely used in musical instrument construction & finishing - for example piano keys, nuts & bridge saddles on stringed instruments - and of course frets. At the time animal gut was used to manufacture strings so wear was not an issue, hence frets made from ivory - Jumbo Frets.* *
This may be a lie.
Jon.
No crime, at least it survived, my 72 Jazz needed incinerating as it was the deadist dead piece of junk going, Fender needed suing. Saying that mine was mint and probably has survived in the same state, pitty the poor sucker who owns it now and plays it .
How can you say that??? Jesus played a 72 Jazz. Probably. J.
Unknown brand MIJ EB0 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EB0-EB-0-style-short...=item45f7c63967
This had a £75 BIN last night - can't understand why people start bidding on things that are obvious bargains. I was quite tempted myself - I have the guitar version of this and it would be sort of cool to have the pair. If the guitar's anything to go on, these are pretty decent - proper humbuckers, veneered timber bodies, nice binding & inlays etc. Certainly a long way ahead of many of the EB-0 copies you see. J. -
'pretend offended' I don't think anyone was offended. It just seemed a little out-of-place in a civil discussion. That's all. And there we have it - the point of this thread. Glad we got there eventually.
But cost is only relative (to wealth & stupidity, which are often strangely interlinked) - and there was a hell of a lot less choice in 1973, no £90 Squiers, MIMs MIJs and at that point not even many JapCrap copies. J.
dont get cheeky mate A thought we were past folk being smart arses on here. Turns out we are lined up for it again in 2011.
Well. From where I'm standing it's not me who's getting shirty and failing to contribute constructive points to the discussion. If you happen to disagree with my opinion (as well as being pretend-offended by words such as "bollocks") then we have the potential for conversation, if not - we don't. To answer WoT, I was responding to this:
a dont think anyone really cares what it was to start with,,,we are more disgusted at what its become.
Which does appear to imply that a £90 Squier should constitute a similar level of desecration. Personally I don't see how one mass-produced bass has any more intrinsic value than another, the only quantifiable factor would be the stupidity of doing something like this to a fairly costly bass. But then again, despite being grotesque the standard of work here isn't rubbish, so it would seem money wasn't an object for whoever did this. J.
