That's very nice - and you'll find a fair few vintage Ibby fans around here. Something in the middle of Andy67's price range is a pretty good ballpark figure, I'd think. Your bass is a Roadster RS800BS, like the one in this 1979 catalogue: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/expans...id=42&now=4 Can't go for it myself at the moment, but good luck! Jon.
Hey Jon. Here's a scan of your Satellite bass from an old book I have. Sorry about the quality, my scanner is sh*te!
Thanks for that - very interesting, what's the book? I do remember seeing these when they first appeared, think it would've been 1980. My local shop had them for £99 and I remember being impressed at a through-neck that cheap, and then rejecting the idea out-of-hand, simply because they said "Satellite" on the end. Glad I grew out of brand snobbery! This also clears up another thing - I'd got it into my head that Satellite was owned by JHS. Wrong bunch of letters! J. -
Cheers for the pm`s im getting from you guys, all good offers, whats the best method you guys use to ship guitars about???,only thing worrying me is i dont have a hard case or such to send it in.
Whereabouts are you? I see from your intro post you're in Scotland - I'm in Edinburgh so if you were interested in my Ibby we might be able to meet up. Otherwise, I'd recommend whipping off the strings, unbolting the neck, bubble-wrap both bits thoroughly & then bung both bits in a sturdy cardboard box, packed out with loads of scewed-up newspaper. J.

Can I interest you in an Ibanez SR800LE? This one's 1990, made in Japan, very light, very versatile active EQ, and one of the thinnest, fastest necks I've played. I've had this one for 10 years, and to be honest haven't really played it in the last 7, since getting bitten by the "vintage" bug. It's in excellent condition, with a few very minor bumps & scuffs & negligible fretwear around the first 5 positions. Jon.

Look closely at the headstock & you can see this one used to be a Satellite - wasn't me, the logo was already gone when I got it! In the US these turn up with Memphis logos, and there are a few different variations - the fretless is quite common. Really the only reason I'm selling is too many Ps and no real use for them - and it's a bit 'eavy! My back's not what it once was... J. -
Now sold on Ebastard. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...tem=12059091186 This has a couple of issues - reamed truss adjuster, dents under E string on the 13th & 16th frets but it's a really nice, playable bass. No point in me waffling on about it - the pictures & Ebay guff tell it like it is! The listing's on for another week but obviously I'll pull it if anyone here fancies it. Jon.
I tend to end my items on a sunday evening, the rare ones that go on ebay that is
Yep - start at around 9 - 9.30pm on a Thursday, 10-day listing so there's 2 weekends to pick up watchers/lowball bids, & ends on Sunday night. Seems to be a good formula for me. Jon.

1992 Rickenbacker Ltd Blood Red! £1300 (SOLD - PENDING)
As the header says I have a beautiful Rickenbacker 4 sting bass for sale. Its a 1992 model but its in superb condition. It was a model that was available at that time in a ltd quantity. It has a really brilliant (fire engine/blood red) finish with black scratchplate and hardware. The red sets off the black hardware really well. It comes with original case, original pickup cover (not fitted in photos) and the original black bridge (i fitted a hipshot retrofit brdige for added sustain and no bridge lift! ) The bass has never been damaged or modified in any way. The hipshot bridge is a direct replacement for the original so no holes were added to fit it so it can be swapped on or off. The best part of this bass is the neck. Its almost completely flat yet there is no fret buzz anywhere. I have owned 3 ricks in the past and the neck on this is exceptional, one of the others was ok but the 2nd one I owned kept moving and needed constant attention. The truss rods on this one have never been adjusted! Anyway feel free to ask any questions but I wont be leaving this up for sale for long as I am having second thoughts already about selling. Price £1300 which is a fair price as models in this condition are scarce and its a rare version. Thanks for looking.
Absolute stunner - this might be my favourite Rick finish. Wish I could afford it! Jon. -
Afternoon Dave. The plain, slightly elongated neckplate says Hondo to me. I would also expect the body to be ply - sometimes you can see the layers at the edges but a peek in the body routes will verify. However I've also seen a couple of solid timber Hondos so it's hard to be 100%. I'm no Rick expert but I've never seen a fake plexi trc. Close up pic? Jon.
Vantage Bass sold for £65. Looks a bargainlicious price to me. Wrong? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Oh yes. Or rather, no, not wrong. Bargain. Anyway how's about a Sumbro "Gibson Les Paul" bass, collection only from the Bradford area: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140423136205 Odd he was able to research the brand accurately (quoting me, into the bargain ) but decided he'd stick with using the name of the only guitar he'd ever heard of for the description. Doubt this is anything special but it looks nice. J. -
I think that might be my old Satellite.... I scratched the logo off when i had mine!!!! Does the bottom end have a dent that look like a zip? I dropped mine in the gigbag!!!!
No - plenty of dents on the bottom of all shapes & sizes - except zip-shaped! I expect removing the logo's a pretty common knee-jerk reaction though. Funny thing is on this one it looks like the logo had been printed on over the lacquer - all the finish is original as far as I can tell, with the ghost of the S*tell*te name on the wood underneath it. I got this one off Geoffbyrne here on BC about 18 months ago. There was a lot of thick black Hammerite-type paint on the headstock when I got it. J. -
Great listing, Jon! Clear, thorough and honest, with good pictures. Just one question: is that the original finish? It looks (to my non-expert eyes) like a really thick DIY coat of brush-applied varnish, but I know nothing.
Yes, that's the original lacquer. Probably what you're seeing is the wood texture showing slightly on the coarser-grained bits. It's either sunk over time or (more likely) the wood wasn't particularly well sealed before it was applied. If anyone here's interested I'll happily pull the auction - I sincerely loathe selling on Ebay these days. £80 +£15 postage? J. -
Did I miss something? Searching for "satellite" "bass" only gives me this peculiarity: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Satellite-Ba...=item2a0840519a Completed listings only gives me this, IMHO even more peculiar item. This body looks "lefty" to me, but the knobs etc. show it's a "righty". http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OLD-SHORT-SCALE-ELEC...=item19bcc17437
Satellite's not my first choice for a search term - I like to be honest but don't want to actually put people off! However, if you tried vintage, MIJ, copy, 70s, etc you might come up with... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=120590911861 It's got an issue or 3 but is a surprisingly nice, playable old plank.
I was semi-hoping that it would look like one of the through-neck p-basses that turn up.
You might want to check new Fleabay bass listings around 9.30 tonight... J. -
I wouldn't recommend using a car wax polish on an instrument - unless you're playing some interestingly hostile outdoor gigs, you really don't need to apply a layer of gloop to protect the finish! Something like T-Cut is a very mild abrasive and works by polishing the actual finish, which is ideal for the thick poly lacquer on most modern instruments. It'll also take out light scratches and restore the gloss to scuffed & play-worn bits. Works on scratchplates & plastic parts too. Very interested in the aluminium foil technique - I'll give this a go later on. J.

I'd go to Halfords - but buy T-Cut rather than Solvol - it will gloss your paint like new as well as shine the chrome & alloy. Nick some cotton wool makeup pads from your wife/girlfriend/mum/ladyboyfriend to use as applicators. Jon.
