It's lovely - you really don't see too much TallyCrap, in fact this is only the second Gherson Jazz I remember seeing in many years of daily Ebay-scouring. I'd strongly encourage you to go for it - you won't see another for a long time. Jon.

With the exception of Rickenfakers & Aria SBs it's really looking like JapCrap basses aren't shifting very quickly at present. The Westy (not the £375 one!) & Vantage are quite perplexing - both of those brands, with their Matsumoku heritage usually do very well. The same thing doesn't seem to be true of guitars though - a Westbury Standard will easily fetch £200 - £250, which is well up on what they were getting a little while ago. Good if you're looking for Jap bass bargains & makes me glad I'm only selling guitars at the moment... J.

Presumably to prevent naughty people from sticking them on copies! So yes - these bits of plastic can sell for £100 or more. The best way to find out if it's original would be to take some good, clear pics of it & ask the very knowledgeable experts who frequent [url="http://www.rickresource.com"]http://www.rickresource.com[/url] forums - they'll probably even be able to tell you what era it's from. Just don't tell them it was on a Faker! You'd be very lucky to find an original Ibanez cover to replace it but I can knock up a facsimile made from 4mm acrylic - I've made several for my own basses & a guitar: [attachment=44662:4trc.jpg] The two with logos simply have a printed card insert stuck behind them - primitive but functional since I currently haven't found a workable (and cheap) way of applying an image to the back of the trc itself. These also have rounded & polished edges, just cos I like it... The other two have straight-cut frosted edges and are simply painted a solid colour on the back. As far as I know the original Ibby item would have been 2 or 3-ply scratchplate plastic, with the logo engraved through the top layer. I can't (yet!) do that but it would be easy enough to make a card insert with the correct Ibanez logo, under a clear trc. I've also go some mirrored acrylic that I've not yet tried working with - should be good for Pickguardian-type pickup rings... Anyway - gigs, I checked out the Baltic prog fest site & it seems they're still accepting demos. Wonder if they have room for two Scottish bands? J.

If that's a real Rick TRC then you'd probably be able to get a good proportion of your money back by flogging it on. And you could probably find some twat to make you an Ibanez-logo replacement for a couple of quid... BTW Stevie, do you guys ever play through in Edinburgh? Jon.

99.9% that's not structural - your neck won't fall off. It's in a fairly inconspicuous place, I'd run some superglue into it to make sure the lacquer doesn't flake, and forget about it. Jon.

It's a 1984 RSB Deluxe II, which was pretty much my only gigging bass from when I bought it (new) until I retired it in 2000 due to an upsettingly twisted neck. I have a (scabby but straight) replacement neck for it from a mid-80s RSB Straycat - I was going to fill the dents & give it a matching refin but I'm sorely tempted to just bung it on & take it out as it is - I miss it! Anyway mine differs from Bloodaxe's by having a P/J type layout (not a P pup - a similar soapbar with exposed poles in P format) and in having a 22-fret neck rather than 24. The controls are stacked V/T and phase switching for each pup. There was also an RSB Deluxe I, with a single pickup, but these don't seem at all common. Jon.
