1. So if you can convincingly imitate Busted at audition, that potentially makes you a suitable - and creatively-contributing, apparently - member of an act with these influences:
50's Rockabilly (Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis), Country, Blues, Jazz, Pop Punk, Ska, (Beach boys, Sherwood, Beatles, Jason Mraz, and Missy Higgins
How long have you been doing this sort of thing, Mr/Ms Noble Artist Management? Jon.
 2. I think this is a bass he bought off Ebay a few weeks back & is parting out - he's got the body & pups up too. Think this is the original listing but the pics are gone: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=360223012105 That neck looks water-damaged to me so I'd expect the rest to be falling apart too - & not much use as firewood until it's dried out. Jon.
 3.
I have found that if I have a completely mint instrument (especially an expensive one like my old Shuker JJB) I am so OCD about keeping it fresh and shiny that it actually takes away some of the enjoyment of owning and playing it as I become paranoid about damage. I guess this probably goes back to the pro musician versus dabbler/hobbyist thing, to some extent, as I think of basses as things of beauty and objects to desire. If I was gigging night after night I guess the condition of my basses (and my attitude) would be rather different.
I can agree with this to a certain extent - a lot of my basses are pretty cosmetically tatty - basically because they're 30+ year-old mid-range Japanese instruments that have been abused/neglected/gigged to hell & back, or all 3, by their previous owners. I actually really like the "battle scars" on these old basses & the life & history it implies, and usually these are the ones I'm most comfortable gigging with. On the other hand my newer basses, and the odd vintage Jap "closet classic" get treated very cautiously because I hate the idea of doing damage myself, especially to something pristine. Jon.
 4.
Does the praise above apply to the 5 string as well? I've no idea about Ibanez
The 05 bit of the model number refers to the strings - a 5 stringer version of my SR800 would be an SR805, a 6 (if there is such a thing) would be SR806. The main reason I moved away from them was that I found myself feeling more comfortable with a wider fretboard - the more modern Ibbys mostly have necks like pencils! I have an EDA900 Ergodyne which has the same neck dimensions. J.
 5.
Hi to all! I am trying to find 2 Bass guitars I had in the late seventies. The first is a Vox with a short scale neck this guitar was originally red with maple neck. The second is a Eros Jazz copy made in Japan I think, Sunburst with rosewood board. Both guitars would be at best described as the cheaper end of the market. If anyone has either for sale I would like to hear from them. Ta
Hi - Afraid I can't help with the Vox, but Eros brand Jazz copies do turn up occasionally on Ebay. In the Ebay sub-forum there's a topic called "JapCrap Spotting" and that's where stuff like this gets flagged up if it's noticed. Many of the MIJ Jazz copies from the 70s were the same bass with different importer badges - Eros (not to be confused with the Italian E-Ros brand) was a name used by London-based importer/distributor Rosetti so it's very likely you'd be able to find an identical bass with a different brand name. Not sure about an Eros, but there are a few old Jap J copies floating around the BC membership, and things get traded, bought & sold very regularly here, so keep an eye on the Basses For Sale board too. Do you have any photos of your old basses? Jon.
 6. I've had Gibbo Victory GAS for years & that pic isn't helping! Admittedly I'd prefer a Custom or Artist but I'm not that fussy! Jon.
 7.
Hi. Hope someone can help! This is my Rare Ibanez Destroyer 2495B, 1976
You are not kidding. That's worth a bob or two. Jon.
 8. You could've just bought this! Jon.
 9. That's not something you see every day. Maybe at night after eating too much cheese before bedtime... Jon.
 10. Absolutely not a Squier. This looks like something from the late 70s / early 80s, probably Korean, that's been modded a lot - those humbuckers aren't original & neither's the scratchplate judging from the fit. This might be an old Hondo or something of that ilk - but whatever it is I think £70 is a bit optimistic, it does look pretty ratty. If you could get it for £40 or thereabouts (unlikely, I guess) it might be an interesting-sounding project with that pickup arrangement. Jon.
 11.
That was too funny! Unfortunately there are lots of middle-aged, experienced, gig promoters walking round who are not really much better.
In my considerable experience, many are much worse - these are the cynical bastards who view young/originals bands as nothing but a meal ticket, willing to jump through any number of hoops just to get to play a gig. They'll expect you to provide gear, poster & advertise the gig (while still calling themselves "promoters"), bring an audience - often requiring you to agree to bring a minimum number of paying punters before they'll give you the gig. If they know you have contacts, expect to be asked to sort out & organise other bands for the bill - and then you can add ticket deals & pay-to-play to that equation. Calling them subhuman scum is being insulting to subhuman scum. J.
 12. Happens all the time. Tell her where to stick it - but be polite & diplomatic. If she stays in the game & sorts herself out, the last thing you'll want is her putting the idea around that you're unreliable & have an attitude problem. Jon.
 13.
Bugger that is cheap Hertfordshire is just south of Edinburgh isn't it? if only
Indeed. Jon.
 14.
I just wanted to say that whoever designed this range for Ibanez had a total 'oneness' with bass guitaring ergonomics. The 'Leo of the 90s' perhaps? Bassassin - can you perhaps shed some light on this?
Hell yeah. That'll be these guys. The SR series is great, (I've had two, still have my 1990 blue SR800LE) but they're an utter & shameless knock-off of Tune's Bass Maniac. With a slightly re-styled headstock! It's actually high time I got my SR out of retirement & gave it a good clean-up & fettling. Jon.
 15. That's one of the licenced Zemaitis models, I think My mate out of a band years ago had a real Zemaitis Flying V, built for him by Tony Z himself. Jon.
 16. You really don't see many of these! Very unusual & cool. Well - I think so! Not entirely sure but I think these pre-date the Kubicki Factor by a couple of years. Make of that what you will... Jon.
 17. Needs a black scratchplate - ultimate Stealth Jazz! Jon.
 18.
Ahhh ok. I thought he was miming a sex act.
The bassist's saying "while you're down there..." J.
 19. That's one of those singers who crouches down & goes "GRAAAAARGH!", isn't it? Jon.
 20.
that looks nice!
It is - Matsumoku-built, mid 70s bolt-neck, from Aria's Diamond sub-brand. Pickups aren't original but looks like a very good score for £250, or whatever he could be haggled down to. J.
 21.
my opinion is that sellers should just have their real location under their avatar, confusion gone, and permeneant rather than having to say it in every sale thread...(not having a go at you jon, just generally speaking)
I think that's a different point, though. I don't and have no intention of changing mine, because if I were selling anything I wasn't willing to post (note: this has never happened and probably never will) my thread title would say "collection only from Behind Your Couch". That way, somebody from the Isle Of Wight wouldn't need to bother to click the topic and wade through my reams of hyperbole and gloriously GASeous photos before finding out they couldn't have it. I think it's more courtesy than anything else. On the other hand, as a shameless Gyppo I'm quite happy to post anything to anyone, anywhere as long as they'll either cover the full post cost, plus a couple of quid for materials, or organise their own courier. A lot of people (most, in the case of amps) don't and won't do this - which is their prerogative IMO. And I think that's a different discussion, too J.
 22. I've got one of these. A lot of bass for not much money, & well-made too. Bargain. Jon.
 23. Yeah I know - that was a rushed post edit after I checked the pics! J.
 24.
Different pickups on their own website, aren't they. The example on eBay has (what look like) toasters. They are rather pretty aren't they? Rather chunky bolt-on necks though. I am sure they feel and sound quite different from a Rick.
I think this is one of the earlier ones - it's got a different bridge too. Never noticed it's a bolt-neck, either - the ones on the Bach site are neck-through: These actually got talked about on here a good few years ago, in fact I'm pretty sure one of the Bach guitars guys actually posted here a few times. Annoyingly the basses were a hell of a lot cheaper then too. But then again, the Pound was a bit less crap against other currencies at the time! J.
