That's bloody ludicrous. Someone in Luton buy this, ffs! You could Ebay it straight away for a clear £100 profit if you don't want it. J. -
well this would appear not to be the bass for you then
Oh, I wouldn't say that. Admittedly it owes a little more to Uncle Leo's other design, and would be a culture shock of some magnitude to anyone expecting Fender Geddy - style neck proportions. J.
oh and this i swapped with rasta for a POD, unmarked headstock aria pro 2. It's japanese so Ill stick it up here, someone may be able to tell me something about it.
Pretty sure it's an RSB Special II - I have an RSB Deluxe II which I bought new in 1985 - the Special was contemporary to it, with a different finish & pickup layout. This would have originally had 2x soapbars with P-layout pole pieces - I think they're MBIVs. Dunno what sort of rewiring's been done in there but that should have stack knobs, I think. My Deluxe does, & the control layout's otherwise identical. J. -
FAO interested parties - I'm going to be away for a few days & have no idea what level of internet access I'll be able to blag, so if questions, comments & PMs go unanswered until Saturday night, it's neither because I'm dead, or because I hate you all. Well, probably not. This also serves as a bump: Bump. J.

I bought one when they first came out - great little DI box for recording & can beef things up a lot just used as a stomp box into your amp. Never gigged with it, but if I did, they're cheap enough to have a spare as backup. Jon.

F/T or possible sale rare(ish) 1979 Ibanez Roadster
Bassassin replied to jmstone's topic in Basses For Sale
Don't panic. The bridge is original - same as mine. Some had round saddles and some square. Why, I don't know.
+1, and to confirm: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/42/4.jpg Brass saddles of this vintage will have tarnished horribly & are a bugger to clean. Original knobs for this are Sure-Grip 1s - basically speed knobs with a knurled rubber band around the top. These can sell for ludicrous amounts of money on their own. The crazy world of vintage Ibanez collecting, eh? Jon. -
There are Columbus Les Paul and ES 335 copies in one of Glasgow's finer used guitar emporia at this very moment. (Or that was fact as of yesterday!)
Are there? Which shop & do you remember how much they want? I ask specifically because I presently have a near-immaculate Columbus 335 in original hard case which I have been trying to foist on my band's guitarist. Unfortunately while he's been only too happy to play it at every practice, when I suggested he bite the bullet & hand over some money, his reaction was slightly different! Bloody thing's no use to me, so it'll have to go. Pretty, ain't it? :brow: J.
I guess this would be the place to ask... (captain japcrap mainly) I said I would fix a bass for a friend, expecting an encore or stagg he came over nad dropped off a "Hohner bass" It's a pretty good P bass copy, Made in japan, ply body with 3 colour sunburst, maple neck and separate maple fretboard (fairly chunky with trussrod access at body end), BWB scratchplate, 7 screw bridge.... and bizarrely fender headstock shape, I would guess that make it quite old?
Yep - 70s, early 80s. MIJ Hohners were made by Moridaira until about 82 - 83 when they moved production to Korea. There may have been other Jap factories making Hohners but most of the ones I've seen are definitely Moridaira. If the P has a serial number sticker that looks like this: Then that confirms it's a Mori. Got any pics, Luke? J. -
Jon, which bass are we talking about here? You seem to be missing a link to the auction in your post? Are these set neck or bolt-on? I know most are bolt-on but every so often there are examples which are made to same way as the instruments they are trying to copy.
Coinsider the plot thoroughly lost! What a twunt. This one - I assume it's a bolt-on because the 2 other Eros EB copies I've seen were: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270492800585 J. -
The nice MIJ EB copies do come up, Kasuga & Matsumoku definitely are worth a look as well as Fujigen. I'll flag 'em if I spot 'em. J.
And another one, seriously worth a look if you're in the Midlands, because he won't post - I've asked. I'm pretty sure it's a Matsumoku, branded as Eros (Rosetti's 70s JapCrap brand) and closely related to the 1931 & 1910 basses on this page: http://www.matsumoku.org/models/aria/solid/sg/19xx.html It's a stealth listing (ie rubbish) & won't attract Ebay JapCrap hunters, most of whom don't habitually search under "bass". As such it will likely be cheap & I'd seriously recommend someone picks it up, if only to profiteer. Or sell it to me. But not both. J. -
Gibson basses you don't see very often

Victory Artist FTW. Had serious GAS for one for a while, you really don't see many. Shame there was never a JapCrap copy! :brow: Jon. -
Fake Les Paul (JapCrap) - beware
Bassassin replied to john_the_bass's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The irony is, that if it is an Antoria gold-top, especially with those mini-humbuckers, it would have been worth a bob or two (£300+) in original condition. Knock at least a ton off that for putting a shonky fake sticker on it, f*ckwit! Poetic justice. Jon. -
I nearly pulled the trigger on this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Pro-II-bass-gui...emZ220514933626
And how I wish I had, if only for the purpose of quick 'n' dirty profiteering - it sold for nearly twice its BIN! Jon. -
Stick me on the list - always been partial to Wah Jobble's take on bass. Jon.

Retarded seller alert. Don't think it's a premeditated scam, the seller plainly knows nothing about basses, Fenders or "Precissions" and their research has not extended beyond "it says "Fender" on the end, Fenders are expensive and it's not new so it's vintage". No way they noticed the plywood oversprays. Jon.
Thanks for posting that - useful and interesting. Love that twin-neck guitar.... and here's a quick bump-eroonie...
If you're interested in such things (and who isn't? ) Ibanez have a massive archive of catalogues, brochures & flyers, going right back to the 50s on their Japanese site: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/index.html I think some of the dating (particularly of the 70s copies) may be a little suspect, but if you're as autistically obsessed with this stuff as I am, this will eat up hours of your life. I really wish someone would show me the badge on these "Tokais". J.
Well, my first bass was a natural Columbus Precision, and the original scratchplate was B/W/B, and the control knobs wre the flat, wide, numbered clear/black pastic ones you see on so many Eastern basses of the day. I'm in the market for a Precision-style basses with maple touchboard, as everything else I own has either a rosewood or an ebony board. With this the body and neck will be solid, with good weight, and it'd be straightforward to upgrade electronics.
That's a pretty good assessment of this, I'd say - weighty & robust, if not immaculately crafted! Build quality's not quite up there with the Mats & Fujigens, but it's certainly rock-solid. I never had a Columbus P (although my first guitar was a Columbus SG, which I still have - sort of...) but I'm sure I've seen w/b/w plates - likely they did both. I'll go & scour for some pics! J.

It's this: "This" being a rather nice 70s Japanese P bass copy. The original headstock logo's been removed (not by me) but there's enough of a "ghost" image remaining to see the size & shape of the original design, and I'm of the opinion it would have been Columbus or Satellite. This being the case it will have likely originated from Moridaira or Rokkomann. It's not exactly original - the tuners, bridge & scratchplate have been replaced, and the pickup is a 70s Jap item I bought for this bass from Gafbass02 a few months ago. It's in pretty tidy condition overall though, with the usual minor scuffs, knocks & bumps on the body, and a "bald" patch of wood worn on the upper edge of the top horn. Body construction's a sandwich of what I assume is Sen ash, which was (and still is) very common in MIJ guitars, and the neck's maple with a separate fretboard. The lacquer on the body's a slightly more satin finish than the neck, and the neck/body joint is very snug. Frets are in great condition (they should be - I levelled & profiled 'em) with plenty of "meat" left, and it's a great player, if I say so myself. The neck is pretty chunky but comfortable, and using my trusty & accurate jumping-on-&-off-the-scales weighing technique, it comes in at about 4.5kg. I've foil-screened the control & pickup cavities, plus the back of the scratchplate, and re-wired it using what I assume are the original pots & cap, and it all works exactly like it should - and Gaf's old pup sounds as punchy & authentic as he said it did. Anything wrong with it? Yeah. One scratchplate screw doesn't match. Make me an offer - around £150 is my optimistic ballpark, plus £15 for bomb-proof packaging & insured posting to UK addresses - but as a self-confessed gyppo, I'm open to haggling. I'd consider a trade for a decent, light-ish 4x10, or suitably raucous 2x10. Not really after basses but y'know, if you've got anything interesting... Jon.

Rock Against Racism / Anti Nazi League free festival, Victoria Park, April 30th 1978: The Clash, X-Ray Spex, Steel Pulse & Tom Robinson Band (who I missed). The bands were great but my abiding memory is the march from Trafalgar Square to Victoria Park. 80,000 punks, skins, rockers, rastas - plus me & my little bunch of mates from school. I'll never forget marching along with a group of gay skinheads from Brick Lane, bellowing out Glad To Be Gay. A pivotal moment in my life. Jon.
