How many strings on a standard bass guitar?
An electric bass, however....4 *ducks*
Electric bass what? Balalaika? Ukelele? Harmonica? Recorder? For the record I have about 20 4-string basses and one 5 - so I think 4's my "standard". And my 5's currently in bits, patiently awaiting its date with a defret! Jon. -
I think that's a Jazz 24 - Ebay was full of new ones a couple of years back. I think they're Korean, not MIM. And they weren't any £500! Jon.
-
These are mid/late 70s - later Columbus copies (branded Series 2 &3) are Korean-made. Not 100% sure but the MIJs look like they came from the same Rokkomann factory that built Maya & El Maya. Considering how common Columbuses were, there's not very much info about them. I s'pose with the ashtrays if they look consistent with the age & wear of the rest of the bass then they're probably the ones it came with. J.
-
That looks in lovely nick - most of these are beaten to hell & back. The one I had certainly was! Are the 'trays original? Jon.

I think it's just a cock-up, & his feedback looks fine to me. He's also got an interesting 1983 Elite 2 Precision listed. That's not something you see every day... Jon.
Especially when you consider some of the complete arse Neil Peart has written in the past He has come up with some gems too, mind.
Speaking as a Rush fan, that's certainly a worry! J.

I write all my band's music, and the lyrics & melodies are provided by our vocalist. The band started as a recording project with just the two of us, and despite having been a full gigging band for the last 9 years it's stayed that way. It's not the intention - I had high hopes of writing outrageous prog monstrosities with our guitarist when he first joined - but he's happy just playing/interpreting what I write. Drummer's been threatening to contribute some lyrics for years now, and they've yet to materialise. On balance this is probably a good thing. Jon.
Not fan of this idea in general.. Lots a effort for a 'maybe' return, and it also depends how or if the guys involved have developed.. Getting the drums out of the garage after a few years of downtime sounds a very bad idea ot me.... If anyone is worth playing with, then you'd meet them on a gig sometime later anyway.... If guys have continued to be active, then maybe... but for nostalgic reasons only, a defo NO...IMV..
I kind of agree - despite being near-geriatric, I've only been in 2 previous bands that were worth a damn, in terms of either writing or gigging, and my current band honestly pi$$es all over both of them. Can't think why I'd be particularly interested in re-forming either. That said the other members were all excellent musicians & good mates and I'd consider working on different projects with any of them. Jon.
All Warwick Thumbs do this neck dive but are sorted with a thick suede strap- would this not work on other basses? Bob
My Westbury Track 2 is somewhat neck-heavy but a broad, suede-backed strap tames its attempts to headbutt the deck. I play it slightly lower than my more conventionally-shaped basses and as a result tend to rest my right forearm on the body, which also helps keep it in the right position. The longer strap tends to make the low frets seem less far away too. I'm curious as to what JDstrings' kit consists of though, & why I couldn't fit it myself, if I had one. Jon.

I've got an old resonator g*it*r sitting around waiting for a neck joint repair. I've also got a nice P neck that's not earmarked for anything in particular. Hmm - I wonder... Jon.
Nice, but it's a guitar! Though thanks for posting anyway, as I hadn't realised the Talmans were recreations of 60's instruments.
Me neither - and as far as I can tell neither do the posters on the Ibanez Collectors World board. Whatever it is, it's not a "60s Talman" because there's no such thing. If it's a 60s guitar at all, then it's whatever model the Talmans were inspired by, much like the current Jet Kings, but more likely it's a very "tired" 90s Talman. The pictures are so awful it's impossible to tell much beyond the basic shape. Over at ICW they reckon the Talman is derived from Hoshino's Starfield models. They'd probably call this an "Imaginez".
Yeah, Vester, what happened to that brand?
Leo's boys shut 'em down. Not because they did top class Fender knockoffs (which they did) but because the brand name itself was thought to be a bit close for comfort. Weird. Jon.

It'll fit fine - if you fancy a swap for a Squier P neck, I have a spare one that's not doing much - drop me a PM if you're interested. Jon.

Never done it but I certainly would under the right circumstances. I've made some silly profits from my pikey-esque antics so I wouldn't begrudge the loss of revenue, and I find I don't really miss instruments when they're gone, no matter how much I liked them or how long I've had them. And sometimes it's nice to be nice. Jon.

Hmm. Someone's reading BC, aren't they? HELLO!!!!! IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE??? J.

I saw that. Ads like this always make me scratch my head a little. How does someone end up having a lefty Shuker to sell & not know it's a Shuker? And if they are that ignorant about basses then how did they decide on a £600 start price? Wonder whose it is/was? Jon.

I've deliberately been avoiding previews/leaks of this because it's a concept piece & I want to listen to it properly - in one sitting, through decent speakers! The good news is that Play have shipped my copy. Joegarcia - are you playing any of the UK dates? btw - lucky, lucky bleeder!!! Jon.
