I agree, but I'm weird like that. Others - not so much, the poor EDA was the opening salvo in the recent 'Ugly Basses' thread! Had mine for years and it still smells of plastic!

Not wanting to be left out of the Scottish BCer pile-on (I'm in West Lothian) - hi Andy and welcome to BC! And if your profile pic's anything to go on, welcome to another orange Ibanez EDA owner!

Those tuners crudely hacked into a heart shape are very familiar. Think he's diversifying?

Music has changed (although I think 'profoundly influenced the direction of' would be more accurate) my life in different ways a number of times. It's strongly possible I would never have picked up a musical instrument at all if it hadn't been for The Stranglers - basically I heard JJ Burnel & went: I want to play that instrument & make that noise. I'd previously been a big fan of other bands with exceptional bassists (notably The Who & Alice Cooper) but never been motivated to learn an instrument, although Entwistle & Dunaway subsequenly became strong influences. In my late teens I got hugely into Rush - I was in Kent & met a Scottish girl who was also a massive fan, we started a long-distance relationship which eventually ended up with me moving to Scotland, marrying her and having two daughters! The relationship didn't last (we split over 25 years ago) but I'm still happily living in Scotland. Cheers Rush. Playing, composing, performing & recording music has been a massive part of my life since I was 16 - and I couldn't begin to count the number of times that's been shaped and changed by different artists, albums, songs, gigs - the cumulative effect on what I play, how I play, how I think as a musician and what music is to me has unquestionably been life-changing.

So that went for £132, which I think is a bit of a steal (assuming Mick's wrong about the intonation!) - anyone here? Would have found it hard to resist myself, but for the 750-mile round trip to collect it...

Westone Thunder 3 - you 'avin a larf, or what!?
Bassassin replied to Stingray5's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Asking 2 grand for a Thunder III, no matter how shiny, more like 'no-chancers'! -
I like that. Similar design to the Vester Argus, (which I always had a bit of GAS for) & was likely an influence. Although I expect this won't have too many fans...

Ebay always was the last refuge of the eternally hopeful. Or 'idiots', as they are more commonly known. -
Anyone down in That London fancy a Flying V version of the same thing? Seen the guitar (branded Kay) but never seen a bass before. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144191783464

That's a Cort, it's one of many variations of the basses being discussed in this thread. Pretty sure the scale discrepancy will be wonky camera angles as these were all built around the same through-neck template. Never seen a bass V type before but the guitar version was sold branded Kay, chances are if you took the trc off & reversed it this one would have a name too!

What, these?

You want ugly? That's just f**king foul. I can understand why this one looks like it's been attacked with a knife - if I was shut in a room with one I'm pretty confident I'd instinctively try to kill it.
-
The neck on mine did have a slight twist as it happens, not enough to have any effect on playability. Surprising though, considering the construction.
-
The buyer turned up & realised it's got a 30 degree neck twist, I suspect.

Ah. Fear and revulsion triggered by the unfamiliar. It's fine,a nice, safe Precision will be along soon, to make you feel all better. Yes - I do own an Ibanez EDA900.

Y'know what? I'm pretty sure I sold that guitar to Dave, would've been April 1992 if I'm right. I was never EVH's guitar tech but someone I know very well (probably too well!), shared a cell with him for some 18 months, and that, in a roundabout way, is how the instrument (or what was left of it at the time) came into my possession. Too bad Dave seems to have forgotten half the back story - particularly the bizarre and convoluted tale of why, in the bottom of each pickup cavity, etched into the wood, using the tip of a hot object (likely a soldering iron) in a rather flamboyant copperplate script, are the three words 'clavicle', 'antelope' and 'buttock'. And what that odd, strange-smelling pinky-blue gelatinous substance, stubbornly clinging to the trem springs actually was! I couldn't believe it when I found out! Anyway - I have to say I'm delighted it's in good hands now, it's a genuine piece of rock history & I always wondered what became of it! Do remind me to tell you all about The Curse one day.

Had a go, not sure it'll be much help...

That's the problem - it looks like he already has! Needs a poll.

Oh, there's always a pedant, isn't there? (In fairness, it's usually me...)

That looks great! It may not be the colour you intended but that really works. As far as the headstock's concerned, I'm leaning towards colouring it - the stained wings give the bass an Aria-esque look, & the SBs had a head veneer matched to the wings. It would also even out the look of the darker section, which stands out more on the headstock than on the body.

What happens when someone acquires (robs?) a piece of equipment, and the only word they recognise on the front panel is 'headphones'.
-
My inner cynic thinks many things, amongst which are that the 'Kossoff connection' amounts to 'dropping the name of a musician you've heard of, who's been dead for a very long time'.

Observing the fact this is happening is political. Gouging, pure & simple. -
Anyone on here buy a Rob Allen Deep 5 at auction yesterday?
Bassassin replied to Denzel's topic in Bass Guitars
Forgot to look at the listings for this one prior to the sale. Sort of wish I had - it's curious what gets overlooked in the Fender/Gibson/farted on by famous musician feeding frenzy! A particular guitar I'd have been very interested in sold for about 1/3 what I'd expect on the open market. And then, Dave Gregory's '92 Hohner Revelation RTX went for £550, which is about twice what I'd think mine was worth. Don't know if that's the name musician association, minor mods by Alan Entwistle or what. But yes, plenty of bargains if you know your weird/unusual stuff, and by the exact same metric, plenty of people overpaying for old tat. -
