  1. It's what happens when someone goes "If only Wishbass made a headless..."
  2. Kasuga? If so, one of the best 70s/80s Japanese manufacturers by a long, long way. On topic, I used to make a few quid buying old guitars & basses for pennies, tidying them up & selling them on. In 2003 or thereabouts, I picked this up for £60, thinking I'd hose it down & maybe flip it for £150 or so. Tuned it up & it was the best-playing bass I'd ever had in my hands, bar none. Still is. It's had a few upgrades & a bit of bling over the years but still probably only owes me £120 or so, all in. It's the one I'd save in a fire - you can stuff your four-figure basses.
  3. J'arrive! Does look a lot like the 'Guyatone' (dunno what it is really, it's not an EB4 though), and the 'Teisco' isn't a Teisco - Reverb/Ebay rule no. 1 - every weird-looking 60s/70s guitar or bass is a Teisco, regardless of what the headstock may say. This rule has no exceptions. Teisco did make basses that looked a lot like this, though - the EB18, 3rd row: Although you can just about see this has edge block position markers (which seem to be a Teisco thing) rather than dots. Currently flicking through Frank Meyers' 60s MIJ Bible (an actual book, so frustratingly, no useable search/image search function) and it actually looks like these may be eariy Fujigen Gakki. Will come back with more boring stuff if I find any!
  4. I agree. I'd have the lower horn corner coming to a point to mirror the top, dunno why Roger R didn't do that. And he's not telling now.
  5. Objection! It doesn't, and it's not. It's an ugly, throwaway afterthought slapped on to cover up some holes. Even John Hall thought it was so rubbish he didn't bother trademarking it, unlike every other aspect of the 4001/4003 design! Compare & contrast the original 1957 Roger Rossmeisl design, perhaps a bit oversized by modern standards, but it flows with & is sympathetic to the shape of the body. It was clearly designed at the same time on the same drawing board, by the same person. By the time the 'deluxe' 2-pickup 4001 was launched, Rossmeisl had cleared off to Fender, so had no part in the redesign. F.C. Hall presumably got the tea boy to do it!
  6. Track off the first Level 42 album? Probably a bass player involved there.
  7. That would've been the post-Lydon Rock 'N Roll Swindle era stuff, and McLaren's doing. Not 100% about it but I think there was a court case between the band members & McLaren over the ownership of the name, probably when they reformed back in the 90s. Someone who's more of a fan will know better than I do!
  8. They're actually going out billed as 'Sex Pistols (Paul Cook, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock) featuring Frank Carter' rather than just 'Sex Pistols', probably in case Jonners had a hissy fit about it. Still using the logo, though.
  9. Most of them did. This is pretty typical: This is less so: And this is, well - Brazilian.
  10. That's the sort of listing that should have a £50, no reserve start. And is so hilariously inept that you'd get it for £50 because no-one else would find it!
  11. If only they were an instrumental band. The 'vocals' make me want to stab myself in the ears.
  12. Despite them having been a big part of my very early musical journey, I've been a bit disconnected from the Ex Pistols reunion stuff. It's come to my attention (saw a poster in Edinburgh) that it's presumably grown legs, as they're headlining what appears to be a big outdoor old-skool punk bash in Glasgow next summer. I'd expect there are other gigs too. Looking at the line up for the day, it occured to me that while the latterly noxious Mr Lydon may not be involved, you at least get three original Sex Pistols, unlike some of their contemporaries on the bill who might be more realistically advertised as The Strangler, and The Skid. No, I don't expect I'll be going.
  13. Interesting, not seen one the same as this before. Late 70s/early 80s foray into original design on a modest budget, by the looks. There's some significant misalignment going on somewhere, with the E string close to escaping the fretboard up at the dusty end. Maybe a wonky/loose neck joint rather than bridge positioning. I have encountered the Azumi brand before, think this is probably a Chushin Gakki build although that truss cover for some reason's making me think Kiso Suzuki. And I'm not even drunk.
  14. Waaay too late for that, unfortunately - I already have (mental count) 10 perfectly good guitars & an unspecified number of project ones. If I got an Antigua, I *could* sell one of the other Strats... But don't worry - I have far more basses. Genuinely lost count.
  15. I'm glad they didn't - pretty sure I'd have caved & bought one by now. I keep looking at the Strat, though - big 70s headstock & everything...
  16. Thread in need of some vintage MIJ StackKnobbery. 1984 Aria RSB Deluxe II. Somewhat modded 1980 CSL Jazz. Knobs are not original but are they stacked? Yes, yes they are. And because not everything has to be from the Olden Days, a Sire V7 fretless that's only like, 5 years old.
  17. That's my old T34! Wish I still had it... But never mind - instead I have this, and I'm inclined to think, in the context of this thread, it means I WIN! The pic's a good representation of the (awesome) colour but doesn't do justice to the sparkliness. It'll be getting an update shortly as the pickguard's started delaminating, and needs replacing. I was never super happy with the shape & want to remodel it to reflect the design of the gold pickguard on the original 50s Rick 4000 bass. And it just so happens you can get gold glitter pickguard material. - well, who knew? In other sparkly news, to keep the Pink Thing company I have this, from the Dark Side:
  18. Definitely not a common bass in the UK, I've only ever seen a couple of pics before. You may already know, but there's a Westbury owners FB group. They'd probably be very interested in seeing it. I've got a Track 2 bass & a Standard guitar (aka The Westbury Synchro Pair) - both excellent instruments which sadly don't get the attention they deserve these days.
  19. If I remember right, T40 necks are a 2-piece construction laminated right down the middle, so that's where this split is. If it's limited to the heel end, the neck pocket should help keep it stable, but I think I'd be taking it off, trying to wick some superglue in & clamping it up for a bit. Interesting bass though, clearly put together by a T40 aficionado & with a very tempting start price. Kinda relieved it's collection only & a long way away!
  20. OK, it's a P/J but you can't argue with £117. https://www.musicstore.com/en_GB/GBP/J-D-E-Bass-PBJ-Candy-Apple-Red/art-BAS0011774-000
  21. Once I got over the shock of $4400 for a Precision copy with an ugly headstock, I recovered enough to appreciate that that's an incredible looking fretboard. Still wouldn't pay that much for it, particularly with a 44.45mm nut, but that's stunning! Beat me to it!
  22. Here's one I made earlier: Not sure why the preview's showing a sparkly pink Retrovibe - if that's become headless since last time I picked it up, I'll be upset!
  23. Good to see another one. Is it a bolt-neck with a serial number on the plate? Might at least be dateable (or debatable, @tauzero! ) from that.
  24. This seems very restrained for The Maestro - just a £20 car boot Strat copy with the headstock hacked & Ronsealed & the tuners brutally wonked. Surprised he found so little to 'improve'!
  25. You never see these. One of the rare MIJ Hondos too - most were Korean. Good price for a rare bass too. If it was a P/J or J/J I'd be tempted (although neither actually existed!) but I have too many single P basses I barely play as it is. So one of you lot will have to do the right thing!
